Need gym recommendations

I’m looking for a good gym for someone that’s at the absolute beginner level. I wouldn’t know what to do if I walked into a gym. I’m a woman wanting to just get in better shape. If anyone knows of a place that would help me get in the right direction, that would be great.

Lifetime if you have a decent income

I have a decent income but is Lifetime really worth the money?

Depends on a few things if you have kids its totally worth it. 2 hours a day child center with plenty of activities, parents night out for 3 hours on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. If you want a personal training or some type of weight lifting classes there are plenty of options. I think the biggest issue people have is wanting to go to the gym so going to place that is nice and you enjoy going to is very important. Also some times you can get a discount through insurance I had blue cross blue shield and they had a program called well on target I could get a membership for 150 a month so its totally worth it.

The YMCA!! Great classes, super welcoming, very friendly! Plus, you can use your membership at any Y (the Frisco branch is also wonderful!)

The Plano Y on McDermott is nice and they have multiple female trainers that would be able to help you get started.

I’m also a beginner to the gym and started going in December when the Tom Muehlenbeck rec center reopened after being renovated and it’s been a great experience.

I was in the same boat - I chose the iron rack https://www.the-iron-rack.com they’ve been great to work with and really break it down (ELI5) for me - I’m down fat and can actually see some muscle :)

The new Planet Fitness across from Willow Bend mall is great. Brand new equipment, large & bright, & smaller crowds. Beats all of the gyms in the area & very affordable.

I'd be more than happy to give you the number of my personal trainer in Richardson. PM me if you want more info.

The rec centers are great. I used La fitness for a few years while living in another burb but moving back to Plano the rec centers have everything you need. And there are 4? Of them so you aren’t having to drive too far. They have all the weights and machines, treadmill, pool. The quality of the facilities are equal to LA fitness.
The 1 thing they don’t have or at least not at Carpenter where I frequent is a sauna.

Do they have good availability of free weights? I haven't been in over 10 years (used to go to Oak Point) and I mostly stopped going because the weightlifting equipment was mostly machines.

+1 for Plano rec centers!

Yes Rec centers for sure! Super easy to cancel if you decide you don’t want to continue.

I use Eos. They seem to have it together. They have trainers you can schedule time with.

I love EOS. Not sure from the perspective of a beginner, but seems like they have competent trainers.

I chose planet fitness because I was a newbie and didn't want to be intimidated. Didn't want a packed gym while I didn't quite know what I was doing. I'm 4 months in, and it's coming along nicely. Gains.

Where ever you go, make sure you lift weights. Get a trainer who isn't just going to tell you to stand on a treadmill. Enjoy the journey!
