Jury duty summons as an 48 State OTR Driver

How do you Drivers manage to get out of this pickle? I quite literally can’t attend jury duty. Any wise tips I will be grateful for and also I live in the state of Georgia if that matters, thanks

I got summoned last year. Called in, told them Im never home so they pushed it back. Got called again this year so i said fuck it and served. Now im good for next 4 years

I'm not telling you to do it, but I've been summoned twice and never showed up and nothing ever happened.
sixeightJ@reddit
I've always done the same.
FileCareless@reddit
I’ve been summoned at least 15 times before I was a driver. The only 1 I ignored they put a warrant out for me and spent the night in jail.

Getting arrested on blitz week 😭

So I've received 2 in my time otr as a Louisiana resident. First one I called and explained my occupation and all they would do was reschedule my jury duty for a later date. So I scheduled my home time to be around then and jumped through their hoops and they didn't even use me. Second time I got the information far enough in advance I scheduled my hometime for then and had a repeat of the first one

Just write to them and call it a financial hardship.

If the notice came with a phone number, call it.

I used to intern at a law firm when I got my first jury summons at around age 20. One of the partners said I could go to the selection appt and say I have been voluntarily committed to a psyche ward (which I have not) and it would forever negate me from another summons in the state of TX with zero actual repercussions. I did it and as far as I know, I will never receive another letter. It’s been 11 years so 🤷🏼♂️

You have to be there if summoned. They can excuse you sometimes if you call and explain your situation. But usually it doesn’t matter where you are. You have to show up. They give several weeks of notice
drowninginidiots@reddit
Not true. If it is physically impossible or would be costly to travel, they will generally excuse you. The exact details and how it works varies from state to state and jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
radun6996@reddit
You cannot assume that. You have to call and speak with them. Always assume the state will result to arrest if you do nothing. Just in case. I know it’s not usually what happens. But I always assume the worst will happen and hope for the best.
Wasabi-Kungpow@reddit
How does one get this notice if you arent home to receive it 🤔
radun6996@reddit
Do you never go home or check your mail??
Wasabi-Kungpow@reddit
Iv been out since Christmas, so no I hardly ever go home.
Zaphod-Beebebrox@reddit
Call the clerk of courts and let them know. Usually they Will work with you.
drowninginidiots@reddit
How you deal with it depends on the state, and sometimes they even change the policies.
Where I am, the rule is you have to call in daily to see if you get called. If you do and can’t be there, you notify them, then continue to check for the remainder of your jury duty period to see if you get called in again. If you can be there, you must go in.
blively281@reddit
They should have sent you a form to fill out. I just put OTR truck driver can't make it and sent it back. I gave it about a week and called. All was good.

I changed my address online 4 times in one year to P.O. Boxes. Then when I tried to do it again I got an error message saying I needed to verify my identity in person. Then I went to the dmv in my home state gave them my real home address same with my banks. When shipping Amazon packages or online packages I use a different first name when sending to my address. Never had a jury duty summons since 🤣

I was selected for jury duty once. I had left the house 2 weeks before the notice arrived. 3 months later I returned to the house for some time off. I called the court once I saw the letter and explained the situation and have never been sent a notification again. That was 25 years ago.
wukillabee2744@reddit
Put on there that your highly racist & misogynistic..
Gonzotrucker1@reddit
If you want the company has to get you home legally. But if you don’t want it’s easy to get out of. Some companies pay you time for jury duty.
CaptCooterluvr@reddit
Did it come certified mail?
If not they have no proof you received it. Damn USPS must’ve left it in the wrong mailbox or somehow lost it in their system right?
Amestopmodel@reddit
That's my theory as well.
Ok-Combination7287@reddit
Just don't show up. Where you served a legal summons that you signed for? No. So they can not prove you recieved it. I will never go to jury duty. Its not worth disrupting my life.
ParticularArrival111@reddit
Put on the form that you are an otr driver and have no idea will you will be when they call. Thats normally a free pass. They can't expect you to drive 2000 miles to attend a jury.
Virtchoo@reddit
They have a phone number you can call on your summons.
