Even at this price I'd pass on getting an MVP. It's just not worth it when for ~240 more you can get a ruger american hunter that will have a better after market, shoot better, and have better quality control.

Rugers quality control has gone downhill recently. There are multiple posts over on the mini 14 sub of people having their bolts self destruct. Ruger is warranting them but I’ve not seen any public acknowledgment of the issue.
DiscombobulatedDunce@reddit
I haven't heard anything about the americans.
The mini 14 is also MIM and investment cast so they're just two different manufacturing lines.
cschmall@reddit
My buddy had the bolt of his Ruger American gen 2 5.56 break the extractor off within ~50 rounds.
Bubbly-Travel9563@reddit
My gen II 5.56 has been perfect through a few hundred so far. Shockingly tight groups too
DiscombobulatedDunce@reddit
That sucks, did ruger take care of him? Also the one I linked is the gen 1, gen 2 hunters don't exists yet.
Ligma_Taint_69420@reddit
I have a hunter and actually love it for what it is. It's not a Tika or B14 but it was less than half the price and is still perfectly fine for slapping steel at 750.
cschmall@reddit
Fortunately yeah, they replaced the bolt, and test fired 20 rounds through it, still waiting for it to show back up though.
But I just thought it was semi relevant, not that I really know the differences between the gen 1 and gen 2 guns tbh.
DiscombobulatedDunce@reddit
Changes from gen 1 to 2 were mostly material changes like going from 4150 to 416 stainless on a bunch of parts as well as slight geometry changes that don't really change function (picatinny is now integral to the receiver, new bolt stop geometry so that it's smoother to bolt in the raceways, fluted bolt body, larger knob, and so on).
WatRedditHathWrought@reddit
Different manufacturing methods but the issue is the quality control.
ArmFun4566@reddit
Not surprised the shills at American rifleman reviewed it and said it's amazing 🤡

Someone tell me why I should not buy this please

It's a really bad config for PRS if you're looking to do that, the Luth-AR stock sucks and the MVP is a proprietary footprint.
Mossberg's QC also sucks and the ability to use AR mags is actually a downside for LR (you'll have a lot more friction trying to bolt forward, you're introducing differences between left and right side feeding especially if it's making contact on the projectile as you're bolting forwards).
There's also just better guns out there for a little bit more or guns with a better upgrade path for damn near the same price (ruger american hunter, taurus expedition).

Please give some recommendations for better buys, much appreciated.

Howa M1500 heavy varmint barreled action from Brownells + stock/chassis of choice, under $1k and very solid overall setup. I upgraded from mine recently and ended up spending $2500 to get something that was a significant jump in quality/performance.
DiscombobulatedDunce@reddit
Ruger American Hunter 6.5 Creed (https://www.smga.com/ruger/rug-26983-amer-hunt-65crd-20-magpul-gray-12661)
Taurus Expedition 308 (just poke around they're regularly 520 and under, I usually just stalk gun deals the website not the subreddit)
Or if your budget is higher (around 1500):
Bergara B14 HMR
Faxon FX7 m24 profile barreled action + chassis and trigger of your choice (this is my faxon setup https://i.imgur.com/cTEKAd7.png)
For either of those you'll probably need to give them some TLC before shooting but it'll just be way better of an experience overall and you won't need to upgrade for a long time.
B14s sometimes have overspray of paint in the inlet so take them out of the action and make sure the rifle is seated well in the footprint then retorque the action screws down to spec -usually around 55 ft pounds-
My FX7 came with a weak extractor spring that was easily replaced with an AR one and there were some sharp edges that wore in after I spent a couple days bolting it back and forth.

I bought a Mossberg patriot. The thing is horrible. Like 4 inch groups at 100 yards when in a lead sled with good ammo. Ridiculous, it’s a common problem and I wouldn’t doubt that this is similarly poor compared to alternatives like the Ruger American hunter
StolenPies@reddit
I've heard the same. Their pump shotguns are reliable, but that's about all. It's a shame, because otherwise I'd totally buy the MVP scout.
Frockington@reddit
Seems like Mossberg excells at making guns as long as the barrels dont have rifling.
Wakkawookie@reddit
I bought one at this price, it’s great with anything but Igman ammo. I’m not shooting PRS, just for fun.
Count_Diiku@reddit
Can this be shipped to CA?
Cold_b@reddit
Would this be a good candidate for a 8.6 Blk conversion?
DiscombobulatedDunce@reddit
Depends on how much you're trying to spend.

Still kicking myself for not snapping up a TC Compass 2 when they were like $280

You can get a sub moa bolty for $500. Now a sub moa 308 auto not so much.

You say you were looking for 2 inch groups at 100 yards?! Well I got news for you!
fenuxjde@reddit
Solid ratings at $1,400.
