Were rifle grenades still being seriously used much by the 90s? My knowledge on them is lacking but I had the impression they had really went by the wayside by then

The French still used them in Afghanistan. Probably also Mali, so until the mid 2010s. APAV 40 and AC 58.
Hell, the HK416F can use them. These days though they're being experimented with as cheap warheads for drones.

It's still a capable explosives delivery system that doesn't require a dedicated launching platform. Or less of a platform. You still need the cup and yeet-blanks, but that's low investment in terms of weight and cost compared to a 230/320 or a MGL.

Modern rifle grenades don’t need a cup at all, and many have the bullet catch system meaning they don’t even need blanks
