What CPU do I pair with a 9070xt?

I’m look to upgrade my pc currently. I’m planning on getting a 9070xt for the 1440p capability. These are the options I’m considering:
Ryzen 7 9850x3d
Ryzen 7 9700x
Im trying to balance budget, performance, and future proofing. I’ve found bundles for both at micro center but which is more worth it in your opinion?

I've been running my 1440 ultrawide 75hz monitor on r5 3600 I think for 7 years now. Upgraded gpu two times, now on 9070 XT.
Never once has the cpu been bottleneck on my system. I'm guessing any newer gen cpu will push much higher fps than what 3600 can, if need be.

For what? Games? 7800X3D or 9800X3D, or even just a 9600X

Yes, for gaming

No need to overspend. Games don’t need 16 cores, let alone 24

Would a 9850x3d count as future proofing though? Or is it more of a workstation card

It's an "I don't need to worry about money" CPU.
9600X is the best value if you play at 1440p or 4K, and 7800X3D is the best value if you play at 1080p - especially competitive shooters.
I might even get a 7800X3D for 1440p if you play MMOs, ARPGs, or Baldurs Gate 3 (or similar games).
9800X3D, 9850X3D, 9950X3D2 etc cost more than the performance bump they give over a 7800X3D.
I don't think anyone actually needs anything faster than a 7800X3D. Unless you're a literal pro gamer.

Future proofing doesn’t exist- you can buy what’s good now and use it until you’re uncomfortable with it

9800 x3d or 9850x3d for sure, should future proof for a long time

I have a 9070xt with the 9850X3D it’s soooooo goood.
Blizy-gamingYT@reddit (OP)
What games do you play/avg fps in them?
SignalMagician1163@reddit
Good mix of single player and multiplayer. Mostly triple A games. I max all the graphical settings at 1440p and can always expect 100+ fps native. Obviously even more with FSR.

9800X3d.

Idk I’m gonna pair it with a 5700X3D though.

Strictly gaming, 9800X3D. Get the 16-core if you have mixed workloads that benefit cores.

If you plan to play esports, 9850x3d, otherwise any am5 processor with the full 32mb l3 cache would do tbh.

Even Ryzen 5 7500f would work just fine with RX 9070xt at 1440p.

The biggest diference is the x3D thing, you could wiht a 7800x3d or 9800x3d for cheaper, they all will be better than the 9700x just bc of the x3d, choose whatever of those 3 .
