Who else enjoys the thirst quenching delivery of a refrigerated indoor public water fountain?? These were cherished and sought after when we were kids..
9trystan9@reddit
I always thought these would go away after covid

Ponce de Leon searched the world over for the Fountain of Youth. Upon finding it, he declared, “Here, my son. Drink deeply from the Fountain of Youth.” But Ponce de Leon, who was much older, drank from the fountain of Adults, which was right next to it.

There was always that one kid who put his mouth on it.

I liked these in school and for years in public places...now you can't get me to drink from those for a million dollars...all I see is germs & sickness on them now...I bring a water bottle with me instead
sitewolf@reddit
I grew up drinking from a garden hose, so.........
kittydeviance@reddit
I did that in the summertime but had to wait for the cold water to come since the hose itself was hot as heck from the sun
mochatsubo@reddit
Same. And now I use "fresh cut garden hose" as a wine descriptor. I feel so grown up!

We don't need no stinkin bottles
TheJokersChild@reddit
I do. We have two fountains next to each other at work and one of them has the water-bottle filler with that infernal sensor you have to hold the bottle up to and that silly counter to tell you how many plastic Poland Spring bottles were saved. Neither one works as an actual fountain. Thanks, covid.

You mean the bubbler?
Historical_Chip_2706@reddit
There was always one that had the ideal pressure, stream thickness, and temperature.
Blue_Henri@reddit
Yes! There was always my favorite fountain.

Must be regional, we always called them fountains.. also sodas we commonly referred to as cokes🤷♂️
Separate-Succotash11@reddit
You must be a west coast person. I moved from LA to Milwaukee learned bubbler/fountain and pop/coke debate.
Throckmorton1975@reddit
Our schools had the old porcelain fountains with room temp - if not warm- water.
FlippingPossum@reddit
I still use water fountains. My thirst exceeds the ick factor. Hydrate don't diedrate.
jnyrdr@reddit
i used to use the ones in portland on my runs all the time….until i saw a video of a homeless dude washing his nether regions in one

My wife and kids bring their fancy, refillable water bottles everywhere. And I don’t get it.
I never had a water bottle growing up. Just used the bubbler.
doctor_machinegun@reddit
i mean, its wildly cleaner, more convenient, portable, and also doesn’t waste water. i grew up on water fountains myself, but i certainly understand why a bottle is far more preferred nowadays
bcb1200@reddit
Yeah. I’m not buying it. It’s not like water fountains were that dirty. And it’s a huge pain to have to carry around something all day that likely is also dirty because people don’t wash them frequently.
Spindrift850@reddit
I would always count to 10 when I drank from one even if there was a line of kids behind me.
psiprez@reddit
The great time waster of old.
SubatomicGoblin@reddit
I remember outside water fountains, seemingly everywhere. Schools, parks, baseball fields, even outside municipal buildings. Free water for anyone. Our hyper-obsession with cleanliness and germ avoidance set us back a bit, I think. We drank out of them all the time and didn't die.
doctor_machinegun@reddit
people drink out of them now, and dont die. of course, much less than they once did.. but they arent extinct. bottles are just way easier these days
ZebraBorgata@reddit
Lol yeah. The water either burst out and unexpectedly shot you square in the forehead or, usually, the pressure was so low the water barely crested at the top of the nozzle.
mfk_1974@reddit
Didn't see those until the 90's.
What I remember as a kid was these.
mfk_1974@reddit
Or if you were in somewhere really fancy.
iknowyou71@reddit (OP)
Had to sneak into the teacher lounge for refrigerated versions!!
Own_Mention9372@reddit
This is the one!!
fridayimatwork@reddit
With barely any flow
withanamelikejesk@reddit
One of those two had no water pressure and the other one had all of it
iknowyou71@reddit (OP)
So true!! Plus, nobody preferred the little one cuz it was for little guys, lol!!
Specialist_Stop8572@reddit
Nice cold bubblers, tasted like pennies
ExtraAd7611@reddit
Hey, at least you know the pipes were copper.
On an unrelated note: how do you know what pennies taste like without taco bell hot sauce?
tvieno@reddit
Save some for the fish!

I remember buying a couple of water bottles for longer bicycle rides and feared looking like a huge poser for drinking out of them without my bike being very close by. The idea of needing my own individual bottle of water when public drinking fountains existed seemed terribly pretentious.
NorseYeti@reddit
And we all know the one kid who would put their mouth directly on the bubbler.

j_grouchy@reddit
Yeah...but didn't you do the petri dish swabs in biology back in the day? The drinking fountain consistently got the most and fastest growing colonies.
