First car at 24 and already wanting real bass + tint… DIY or pay for pros?

I’m 24, live over in Smyrna, and I just made one of the biggest moves of my life, I bought my first car after straight-up grinding for almost 4 years. Warehouse jobs, overtime, selling stuff on Facebook Marketplace, skipping vacations, you name it. Felt like I was never gonna get ahead but here we are.
I went with a 2023 Subaru WRX in World Rally Blue. 271 hp turbo 2.0, 6-speed manual, Symmetrical AWD, and only 9k miles on it. Man, this thing is a blast. It hooks up perfect when the Delaware weather decides to dump rain, and it’s stupid fun on the backroads between Dover and Middletown. The boxer rumble is already growing on me big time.
I couldn’t help myself and already started messing with it:
- Threw on some coilovers (sits nice and low now)
- Upgraded the intake and a louder turbo-back exhaust
- Blacked out the emblems and added some rally-inspired graphics
- Swapped the wheels for a set of bronze Method rims with all-season tires
But the stock audio is weak as hell and the windows get me cooked. I really want solid window tint (dark but still legal) and a proper subwoofer setup that actually hits. Nothing crazy, just clean, chest-thumping bass that makes cruising with the windows down actually feel premium.
Here’s where I’m stuck, I’ve been looking at killer sub + amp kits online but I don’t know the first thing about installing any of that. I’m scared I’ll wire something wrong and blow a fuse or make the whole car rattle. So I’m debating: try the DIY route and maybe regret it, or take it to Audio Jam online in Bear and let the pros pick the right sub, build a custom box if needed, and install everything clean? They do tint too from what I’ve seen.
Any other WRX or Subaru guys in Delaware? What are you running for audio that sounds good without killing trunk space or draining the battery? Budget around $1,000–1,600 for both tint and the bass upgrade.
Be honest, roast me if I’m overthinking this lol. Drop your shop experiences, recommendations, or just say what’s up.

Dude $1k-$2k for tint and bass is not going to go far. When I did audio, a basic sub that did more than just vibrate stuff and sound like crap (and Subarus rattle like a can of spray paint) was easily $3000. Good audio isn't cheap. Cheap audio isn't good.

Lol 1000 is a good bucgst for that. Not everything has to be professional grade. Tint is like 3-400 for good ceramic, and you can have a decent subs for under 5k. I got a pair of 12 inch kicker comp rs with the comp r box for 200 and they sounded decent for the price.

Agree, cheap audio isn't good. Thanks for sharing

Are there any ports close to you. I go to one in wilmington, they import bananas and stuff for dole and chiquita and they get paid. Union. Check it out.

wth?

No offence, but your post just reads like an extremely stereotypical Subaru owner.
The "classic" WRX owner has more money in mods than value in the car, heavily tints every window, slams the suspension, modifies the exhaust so it is obnoxiously loud, stickers their car like it spends the weekends doing international rally cross, stuffs the car with huge subwoofers and speakers enough to rattle the window panes of nearby homes, and hot boxes their car with a variety of fruity flavoured vapes every chance they get.
I have no idea why this is such a common thing, but I have seen the same sort of setup a hundred times across multiple countries.

Don't worry mate, i'm a chill guy 😄

That's exactly what someone from vape Nation would say lolol.

If you have access to decent tools, can research, and follow a guide, you could probably wire a single channel amp and subwoofer without issue. With tint it’s close to the same, tools, patience, follow some guides. I pay for tint cause the front and back are a pain. Sides are ez. I taught myself to replace my speakers, head unit, sub, and amp.
Find some recommended shops near you, get some quotes, and weigh your options vs trying it yourself.

Thanks a lot for the advice. 💯

Wiring up a subwoofer is not difficult. Fuses are cheap. im sure theres a dedicated forum to wrx's and someone did a write up of how to do it. I would pay for someone to tint your windows though. Too much of a headache to do on your own, and youll spend less at a shop than in materials diy for the first time.

Yeah, you're definitely right here. Thanks
