Dreamliner

I just saw a 787-9 for the first time in my life and I'm quite ecstatic even thought it was for not more than a couple second.
I have no avgeek friend to tell this to, hence I come to reddit

787-10 is my favorite plane, worked on them for a while, they’re truly a marvel of engineering and innovation.
Adjutant_Reflex_@reddit
There’s something about the -10 (and -8, for that matter) that just look “off” to me. The -9 has the perfect proportions, in my eyes.
Ecthelion-O-Fountain@reddit
The base model usually has the ideal proportions by design.
FutureHoo@reddit
Not necessarily true - the A380 was built taking into account future stretch versions, so the base -800 version is hilariously overbuilt
greatlakesailors@reddit
Case in point, the Dash 8. "Just gimme one more fuselage barrel, bro, I promise I just need one more" and now you have a bush plane that's 108 feet long.
Ecthelion-O-Fountain@reddit
The Q400 actually isn’t much of a bush plane. Hauls ass on approach for a straight wing turboprop
greatlakesailors@reddit
That's the joke ;) Q400 = a Dash 8 after "more fuselage, bro, I need fuselage, gimme fuselage" Dash 8 = a Dash 7 after "does that thing REALLY need quad engines and STOL?" Dash 7 = "Dude...." (Long drag on joint).... "What if we made something that's basically a Twin Otter, but, like, four times bigger?"
ThunderballTerp@reddit
100%
-9 > -8 > -10
Lucky-Comparison-785@reddit (OP)
I agree 100%
Adviderisj@reddit
The 8 looks like a chubby 739 imo
SaltnPepaSquid@reddit
Where? And which operator?
Lucky-Comparison-785@reddit (OP)
Karachi, on a heading not normally ofoetd for at takeoff from KHI. It was and Etihad 787-9, default livery
BlaxeTe@reddit
I’ve flown the 787 many times to Karachi. Certainly not my favourite destination but if you pay a bit of attention I’m sure you’ll spot some more Qatar 787s!
Lucky-Comparison-785@reddit (OP)
So that means I only fly Etihad, rich boi Qatar sends a350s here, some Thai 787s come up sometimes
BlaxeTe@reddit
Depends I guess, sometimes it’s 350, sometimes 787. Haven’t been to Karachi for a while at least!
SA2018@reddit
Nice. I think A350 and A380 will blow you away.
Lucky-Comparison-785@reddit (OP)
I've seen the a350 (900 and 1000) fly by and the sound really gets me. Although I've seen several a380s parked at DXB and also flown in one I haven't seen one fly by and I never will in my hometown
BoringBob84@reddit
Airbus chickened out on the A350 and went with obsolete technology. It will make then profit in the short term because it is cheap, but it will be a loser in the long term.
Micutio@reddit
Over here I'm quite spoiled for plane spotting with both my office and running route being very close to a big international airport. But even then I turn my head every time I hear engine noise. It never gets old!
chuckop@reddit
Welcome friend. We understand the excitement. Wait until you fly in one and visit the cockpit!

Flap settings: 15,17,18,20 is just weird
greatlakesailors@reddit
Dreamliner is so slippery that it's understandable why you'd want so many flap and speedbrake settings.... apparently the thing just whips along with very little drag for its size, so you do make use of all those settings when ATC wants you to slow down and follow a particular descent profile and the plane just goes "actually I'd rather turn all that descent into speed now". Or so I've been told....
NakedJamaican@reddit
You would think so, but no. Most people just stick to the standard 5, 10, 20° flaps during descent and approach. Also, changing the flap setting for takeoff doesn’t change much, especially when going from 17 to 18. It just Boeing weirdness.
user_potat0@reddit
Better T/O perf
NakedJamaican@reddit
I know, but it’s still weird having so many small increments
Dear-Regret-9476@reddit
Shame Boeing didn't inherit dial-a-flap from the MD merger
NakedJamaican@reddit
Cool. Which MD? I do not remember those
Dear-Regret-9476@reddit
This example is from a MD-80, but the MD-11 also has it
NakedJamaican@reddit
That’s a -10 cockpit
Lola787SG@reddit
Welcome 🙂
mpg111@reddit
Welcome! You'll like it here
NakedJamaican@reddit
To be honest, none of the 787 variants look good to me. If the -8, -9, -10, the -10 looks least bad.
Ecthelion-O-Fountain@reddit
Congrats on having bad taste
NakedJamaican@reddit
Thanks, but I already know that, my wife tells me all the time. Anyway, the 777-200ER looks so much better
Ecthelion-O-Fountain@reddit
Your wife should t tell you you have bad taste. After all, you chose her!
NakedJamaican@reddit
Touché
Lucky-Comparison-785@reddit (OP)
No such thing as bad taste, it's all subjective
JamesK_1991@reddit
I always try to book on one of these when I visit Europe. Favorite passenger airliner by far.
NakedJamaican@reddit
It’s a wonderful airplane to fly on. I wish they hadn’t skimped on the forward galley; it’s a mess.

Nice, I also saw my first one (not flying over me) recently when British airways started their route here.
