How often do you play music?.

I feel music brings light and happiness to my home.
There is always the Radio or Alexa blasting out New Order or Morissey.lol.
This has been the case for 40 years.
How about yourselves?.
PsychologicalDish430@reddit
All the time!
snakeoildriller@reddit
Every day, and I also like to fall asleep to it. Couldn't do without it.
Dr-Werner-Klopek@reddit
Same. What do you like to fall asleep to? I can do without most of the time but sometimes I just love to fall asleep to music.
snakeoildriller@reddit
Sleep tracks are a bit mixed: it'll either be a bizarre selection of programming from Radio Mongolia, or some ambient/electronica from Systrum Sistum.
ProD_GY@reddit
Nice! Check out Aphex Twin ambient works
oldskoollondon@reddit
Amazing album
Dr-Werner-Klopek@reddit
Nice, I lean heavily into electronic and very much ambient myself.
Radio Mongolia… I’m intrigued.
snakeoildriller@reddit
If it's ambient I normally set a timer for 60 minutes; normally I'm long gone before that though ☺️ Yeah, Mongolian Throat Singing is very different - lots of it on YouTube. Sometimes it's just nice to hear a totally different music system.
RevellRider@reddit
Sometimes it can be something heavy, like some hardcore or metal.
It calms my brain in ways that a lot of people don't understand
Whoosholliander@reddit
Every day. Life would be so empty without it. My other half doesn't like listening to music and it infuriates me.
oldskoollondon@reddit
Wake up, radio on first, kettle second. Turn radio off when I'm going to sleep.
gregd303@reddit
Every day. Listen to 6music, have a turntable and vinyl addiction, big CD collection too. Play guitar, and make some electronic music. Then go to a lot of gigs. Music is life :)
Educational_Bowl_447@reddit
Every day without fail. I like to get all the numbered NOW albums all lined up on a Spotify playlist, then press shuffle and see what magic happens!
There’s 123 albums over more than 40 years of music, so the variety is joyful!
ProD_GY@reddit
Every day. All different genres. I absolutely love it
Buffetwarrenn@reddit
Listen to Trance every day
It boosts my mood
ProD_GY@reddit
Same. I grew up on 90s trance. It's great isn't it?
Acting_Normally@reddit

Buffetwarrenn@reddit
Well those are getting a listen tomorrow
Love that coming on strong track
Acting_Normally@reddit
Hell yeah buddy 😁👍
I’d love to hear your thoughts once you’ve given them a listen!
Sadly, that version of Comin’ On Strong isn’t on Spotify - only on YouTube for some reason 😐🤷♂️
There’s SO many remixes of Comin’ On Strong on Spotify, but not the Bo Bellow mix, which is undoubtedly the best version of the track by a clear mile.
Radiant_Office6445@reddit
My 75yr old aunt bloody loves blasting it in the car. Loads of old MoS CDs in the glove box. Really is great driving music even as a passenger. It's really not what I personally normally listen to but it's great.
RequirementEasy4273@reddit
Pretty much every day, usually first thing while making coffee. Silent kitchen in the morning feels weird to me now.
vipros42@reddit
Almost constantly, at all times. I fucking love music.
uglywhitekid@reddit
every single day. averaged 55 tracks daily since 2022 (thanks last.fm), so about 4-5 albums. i just like it
DDAAVVEE123@reddit
180,000 minutes a year on Spotify last year, although a bulk of that is podcasts/audiobooks to get me off to sleep
Agreeable_Guard_7229@reddit
Morrissey makes you feel happy?
ledu5@reddit
I mean if you think Morrissey is all whining and misery I think you just very plainly don't get him (not to excuse the bigotry/general cuntery of course)
snakeoildriller@reddit
There's always Neil Young 😉
Various_Extreme_8773@reddit (OP)
Yeah lol
swanbrin@reddit
Whenever I’m out (alone) or not watching anything on tv.
I consistently keep my headphones on me at all times, radio 2, radio 4 or my mums mp3 player is usually on in the background in the kitchen as that’s what my mum listens to
luker1771@reddit
I get up early on a Saturday, 5am early... Walk the dog and get home to have music on in the kitchen while I do life-min and plan the weekend /week ahead.
Currently listen to UB40 mostly, with some Mary Wallopers.
ReneRottingham@reddit
Everyday be that listening or playing
Itchy-Book402@reddit
Never. I dislike music, especially one with lyrics, because instead of doing what I'm doing, I start paying attention to the lyrics. I like going to concerts, though, because then I'm there to enjoy the music, so whatever they are playing doesn't distract me.
Maester_Magus@reddit
I'm an avid music fan (and musician) and I completely relate to this. Music either gets all my attention or none of my attention; I very much dislike 'background noise' or passive listening. I find it really difficult to not focus on the music when it's there.
That said, I do throw on some ambience most days when I'm working. I suppose that kind of is meant to be passive listening though, so it's not the same.
20127010603170562316@reddit
Rarely, but I do have some bands etc. that I like. Even went to a concert for the first time last year.
I generally don't like to listen to the same thing too many times. Unlike the arsehole I used to live with who only liked Oasis, and he liked them loud. Now if I hear Oasis it gives me flashbacks I'm sure.
JustNoGuy_@reddit
About half the day every day I'm listening to music, helps dull my senses and stops me feeling like I can't breathe when I go out to certain places.
InkedDoll1@reddit
Every day on my way to work, sometimes the way home as well (but sometimes podcasts), plus if I WFH I'll have the radio on all day. Most times when we go out in my husband's car we'll have his music on too, so yeah, a fair bit all together.
NoNameNoNumba@reddit
I either go to sleep listening to music or old Karl pilkington bodcasts.
vonManstein43@reddit
Wife demands XFM every night to go asleep to 😂
WotanMjolnir@reddit
“Light and happiness” paired with New Order and Morrissey is giving me some cognitive dissonance!
But, to answer your question, every day. I try to listen to at least one full album a day - I’m going through the 1001 Albums to Listen to Before You Die book, and have discovered some gems. Equally, though, putting on an old favourite is sometimes what is needed, like a pair of comfy slippers.
MrMotorcycle94@reddit
I listen to music and play along to it pretty much daily
Mr_Bumcrest@reddit
How can Morrissey bring light and happiness?
Various_Extreme_8773@reddit (OP)
Remember there is a light and it never goes out.
EvilTaffyapple@reddit
My work doesn’t have any issues with wearing headphones at your desk, so I’ve listened to music for at least 8-9 hours a day for the past 13 years.
That being said I always leave the house with my iPod and headphones - there hasn’t really been a day since the 90’s I haven’t listened to music during the day.
RevellRider@reddit
I'm nerdy enough to know that in 2025 I listened to 41 days of music on Spotify, and that doesn't include the stuff at work.
I also know that is down from my peak in 2021 of 80 days
glytxh@reddit
Bought a Dolly Parton tape for 50p this morning and spent till midday jamming out while spring cleaning the kitchen.
sharkkallis@reddit
Hours and hours a day. Music is life.
spoo4brains@reddit
Podcasts have replaced most of my music listening.
smellyfeet25@reddit
I LOVE MUSIC. IT IS so important to me. always has been
smellyfeet25@reddit
I love the way you use the word happiness with Morrissey lol .
themanfromoctober@reddit
Like every other day if not everyday, either music or podcasts
yossanator@reddit
I don't watch TV, it's tunes or radio. YouTube is also a treasure trove for discovering new and old stuff. My tastes vary considerably - punk to flamenco, opera to 90's hip hop! I just love music.
BungadinRidesAgain@reddit
Variety is the spice of life
kbm79@reddit
All the time. Takes the sting out of housework, trips to Aldi etc.
yearsofpractice@reddit
Hey OP. 50 year old married father of two here.
Music is on constantly in our house - radio / playlists / albums. Only time it gets turned off is at night and when we’re working from home and need to do meetings.
Super-Craig@reddit
It's been a long time since I properly sat down and just listened to music.
Almost everything I listed to was audio reports from within my departments, but these days I spend most of my "can listen to stuff now" time listen to audio CV's, though they're not quite as popular as video CV's we still do get a decent amount in. Especially since our company has a pretty well know reputation within the industry of auto-rejecting all written CV's that don't come with an honourable recommendation.
Mickcmc@reddit
Unlike many people, I experience musical ahedonia. That, in more simple terms, is a complete lack of any emotional engagement or response to music. It is better than traffic noise. It is better than doors banging. But it is not something that has meaning for me. It is something unusual but far from unknown. About 3% of the population of the world share a complete indifference to music with me. And that is my experience for the past 70 years. I welcome hearing music is important to you, but please, recognise that it is far from important to everybody.
Prestigious_Emu6039@reddit
A bit of Bach everyday works wonders
GabberZZ@reddit
We have Alexa's around the house so as soon as we come home we ask her to play a dance music 'everywhere'
When I'm Doomscrolling Reddit in a pub I'll have music on my earbuds.
BellendBuilder@reddit
Hours everyday. I much prefer music to TV and films etc
JP198364839@reddit
Every day. In the car, on the train, in the kitchen, in the living room. There’s always music on. Right now I’m supposed to be washing up but have one of my favourite ever albums on vinyl blaring out too. While doomscrolling, obviously.
SnackOverflow90@reddit
Hardly ever. I used to listen to it all the time while driving but now I enjoy the peace or the engine of the car.
I also can’t listen to it while working as it’s too distracting.
MrSpud45@reddit
Every day - put my mp3 player on random, headphones on and concentrate on my job
Bounty_drillah@reddit
First thing in the morning. At work when possible. As soon as I get home too. Then maybe go a gig or a club at the weekend.
waggywaggydogdog@reddit
New Order and Morrissey bring light and happiness?
FullDinner506@reddit
When they stop.
Faultybeeftrigger@reddit
Haha exactly my thought
imnotabotimafreeman@reddit
all the time, at work if im inside, in the van. Radio in my kitchen. I got a turntable and a cd player so im always using those. Ive been going to see bands since 1982.
FunkyYoghurt@reddit
Every night after work I play music on the hour walk home. I refuse lifts but they've gotten used to it. It's me time. At the moment I'm listening to Bring Me The Horizon live in Sao Paulo. It's incredible.
kurtyyyyyy1@reddit
You just reminded me to re-listen to that 👍🏼
markedasred@reddit
Daily as well, but across a very wide mix. Yesterday and Today I played a German film composers solo percussion album, a 1957 Dvorak quartet LP, some Ghanain Reggae, an album each of South African and Spanish Jazz, North African Gnawa music on Oud and Electric Guitar and a 1975 Earth Wind and Fire album.
SweetCryptographer72@reddit
I like to listen a lot. 89,901 minutes last year.
Dennyisthepisslord@reddit
There was a time in my late teens early 20s where I would listen to hours a day.
Now maybe an hour a week.
Even when running I am more likely to put on a podcast
bloestorm80@reddit
New Order and Morrisey also bring me joy, I permanently have my headphones glued to my ears.
I’ve been music obsessed since the late 80’s and listen to whatever takes my mood!
I like to think of it as sound tracking my life to block out the rest.
mdmnl@reddit
Daily.
Absolute Radio in the car (when alone).
Music when doing the dishes.
Music at the gym (earphones, I'm not a barbarian).
Sometimes listen to some in bed before going to sleep.
Wide selection of stuff, soundtracks, jazz, rock, blues and pop.
haggis_catcher-@reddit
Smooth everyday in the work van
strawberryblondey@reddit
Everyday in my house and have done since i was a teenager. Music is therapy for me. It takes me to another world.
liltrex94@reddit
Every day. Couldn't imagine a day without music.
DangerousDisplay7664@reddit
Every day! Throughout the day. Music is pretty much the soundtrack to my life! I couldn’t imagine living in a world where I couldn’t listen to music every day!
decentlyfair@reddit
All day and most days. I only play my music I own though not radio can’t be doing with inane blabbering and adverts and I like to choose what I listen to.
TheEnglishDominant2@reddit
Every day
fizzysmoke@reddit
Every day for the past 30 years. Whenever the stupid question of 'would you rather loose your sight or hearing' comes up in a pissed up conversation or something then im in the losing my eyes camp.
Ashamed-Assumption12@reddit
Daily. In the car, whilst working, and I cannot do housework without my headphones on and music blasting.
Conversely, my husband will get in the car and turn the radio off. I should have spotted the red flags 25 years ago!
thereisalwaysrescue@reddit
From the moment I wake up until I go to bed. I work nights so sometimes I have it on in the background very quietly.
Jaded_Ad_6658@reddit
Without music, life would be a mistake.
Soggy-Parsley-4866@reddit
All day. You have great taste in music.
MidnightRambler87@reddit
CDs in the car mostly.
I’m dreading the day I don’t have one in a newer model, I’ve got far too many and I’m still adding to the collection!
SatisfactionOk8473@reddit
would say most days. But I love music when cleaning my house. It makes it less boring.
Terrible-Bad-9002@reddit
Every single day.
Thunderoussshart@reddit
I love music but for some reason I rarely listen to it at home. I always listen to music when I'm out and about walking though, couldn't do without it.
heyitsed2@reddit
All day everyday at work, been having 6 music on recently because my Bluetooth speaker dies after 90 minutes even if it's plugged in!
Would have the radio on at home but husband's a bit sensitive to noise boooooo.
Growing up the kitchen radio was on 24/7. I'd get home from a pub shift long past midnight and sit and listen whilst having a snack.
Rasty_lv@reddit
Almost daily. My car connects to my phone instantly and plays my playlist i built over the years. At work, in our office we have radio on all the time (though it pisses me off, that our old radio doesnt have dab+, which has our favourite station (planet rock)). At home, this is kind of subjective. me and wife have drastically different music tastes. I play my music if im alone (usually pc speakers) or smaller speaker in kitchen if im cooking.
Fit-Mistake-4390@reddit
According to Last.fm I listen to about 22-40 hours of music a week
Agreeable_Ad7002@reddit
Sporadically. I normally prefer to listen to podcasts for background noise if cooking or cleaning but every so often the notion to listen to music takes hold. I enjoy live music a lot more than listening at home or in the car. Decent music as background in the pub is always welcome.
spacefrog_io@reddit
literally all the time. i have an epic sound system in my car, a few pairs of quality headphones, good speakers all round the house & decks set up. i’m big into dance music & i dj so record my own mixes. also into a wide range of other stuff - going to berlin in july to see system of a down but i’ve also been blasting out some rihanna & mr big this week :)
strodey123@reddit
My Alexa must have the radio on literally 18 hours a day lol
4CD1226@reddit
Radio is on all day in the kitchen.
FIREBIRDC9@reddit
Every day
terryjuicelawson@reddit
Almost all the time, prefer it to TV, like it on in the background when working, cooking, driving etc. Old classics, my LP collection, new discoveries via streaming, anything really.
pgnlzbth@reddit
Daily for sure. Less than if I lived alone - I’d have it as a constant soundtrack, but my husband’s not so keen! All the time when I working (driving a delivery van) and to stay motivated when doing tasks.
Decard_Pain@reddit
Daily.
yolo_snail@reddit
In the car, and we have music at work.
Any other time, basically never
cooky561@reddit
Almost daily. Music keeps me going.
