What are some cool old rifles with style and history that I can get along with ammo for cheap

I want to shoot it for fun so a somewhat available caliber is a must. Lee Enfield and a 1903 Springfield are what I’m looking at now. You can get 303 British from hornady and a few others still but 30-06 obviously would be preferred due to availability. What else? Something wild Wild West I can get ammo for?

Lever action if you want western with availability. .357mag is where it's at.

.357 lever suppressed is my favorite to shoot at the moment. Run some 158gr 38 special through it and it’s super quiet.

You can look for pistol caliber lever carbines in .38/.357. Rossi/Heritage 92s are like $800 brand new and less if you can strike a deal or work with an online buyer. I have one and don't have much to complain about it.

What is your definition of cheap?

Well I’d like to pay for a functioning rifle with iron sights…$700 or less. It doesn’t have to be pretty but I like to shoot back to 200 at least at the range. 30-06 is like 30 a box if you buy by the box or 23-25 in bulk. I’m ok with that if it’s a long action caliber like that but of course cheaper is better.

You can probably find some decent pistol caliber lever action guns for that much. 357 mag/38spl is less than 50cpr right now

You should be able to find inexpensive 1892 winchester clones like the Rossi/Heritage for about that price. I think someone in turkey makes one now too.
I have a Rossi in .45 colt (not cheap to shoot) and like it a lot. Keep in mind that the .38/.357 Rossi guns have a reputation for being picky about over-all-length and prefer the .357 to the .38.

Some variation of the K98/Mauser in 8mm.
8mm surplus starting at .35 per rnd. Which is a few pennies less than 303 surplus . You'll have to use standard velocity ammo in the 1903.
For looking and buying military to a huge variety of other types and brands of firearms. Try Guns International .
Definitely look around price wise. Look carefully at all the pictures. Ask questions. Before you fill out the 4473. Thoroughly inspect the firearm to ensure that it matches the ad. Use a credit card for payment.
There's cheaper firearm options. Caliber is important as ammo costs money.

I’ve seen those in 30-06 also. Those are nice rifles also

Scope out Gunbroker for the old .22 pump actions.

Indian Ishapore 2A1. All the benefits of a Lee Enfield SMLE action that shoots a .308.
