For the spec you want & what you are actually going to use it for you don't need to pay anything like £600 in the Android world.
A company releasing a new phone model is often more of marketing exercise than a tech one.
I've turned the 5g off on my phone as it's actually real time slower than 4g and uses more battery when my phone seeks best connection. Newer is not always better.
Certainly don't buy a contract phone. Best way to do it but a phone outright & get a SIM only contract separately.
I paid less than half your budget for a Motorola & more than happy with it. I likely have a higher spec requirement than you too.

Why not a contract phone?

I've loved my Motorolas, camera quality isn't FANTASTIC on all of them, but that's not a need for me, I think some of the newer ones have good cameras.
They last well, I do find they tend to get a little slower at the 3-4 year mark. Easy to set up, integrate very well with all the Google stuff and very affordable - I think my current one was £250ish a few years ago on sale. And it's a fun blue!
They look very nice too.
Only hard thing is finding cases that fit...

Another Motorola fan, especially the Power range for battery life, and there's plenty of cases for under £10 on eBay.
I splashed out on a Pixel a couple years ago, and honestly while the camera is better, it just clogs up my storage space with more resolution and alternate images than I'd ever want, so I keep having to delete stuff or eventually give in and pay Google for storage.
My Motos just worked happily for a few years before battery life got a bit low, and we're under £150.

Try a oneplus model, used if needed. Openplus 13/15 are very good value for money.
asjonesy99@reddit
Oneplus is about to go bust so might be SoL to get long term support

Where would you recommend for used? The new models are over my budget atm
I've never bought a used phone so unsure what site would be safe
swarnavasarkar@reddit
Ebay seller with very high ratings (4.5+) and hundreds or more numbers of reviews. Then you are pretty safe.

Just get another pixel, outside of iPhones they are the best complete package, no standout features, but as a phone that just works a pixel is the closest you can get.

Musicmagpie!!! They are absolutely brilliant.

Xiaomi 15T Pro, Nothing Phone (3a), Pixel 10, Pixel 9a, OnePlus 13R and just to throw a bit of Samsung in, S25 FE are all solid choices.
Skippp131@reddit (OP)
All better than the pixel 10 in your opinion?
BellendBuilder@reddit
Not necessarily better or worse mate, but all fit the criteria. Each have their own areas where they’re slightly better and worse in different areas but all would fit the bill.
What I’d do mate, as I used to be a proper phone nut and I used to HAVE to have the best phone out there for my budget, is go on gsmarena.com and compare them side by side dude, and check out the testing reviews etc.
Don’t pay much attention to the people commenting as they’re the tech geeks who shit on everything that isn’t absolutely flagship, but for tech specs, doing side by side phone comparisons and honest reviews it’s one of the best sites out there and has been for many a year.

Awesome bud I'll give that a check later today, appreciate it
BellendBuilder@reddit
No worries mate I used to work in outbound sales for O2 and Talkmobile when that was a thing so always had that site on screen for when someone wanted to ask me about tech specs.

Was looking at this, they refer to fonehouse a lot and it seems to have dodgy reviews so I was reluctant to try it! Any experience with them?
honesto_pinion@reddit
I used Fonehouse a few years back, great experience, no problems. Same with Affordable Mobiles and Mobiles.co.uk so I would order from any of them again.

My head tells me you're probably right, but my heart says something better could come around.
What makes you say that it's the answer?
