Which is the best non-sugary orange juice?

Would LOVE some orange juice right now, but the brands I keep buying all taste quite artificially sweet and sugary - what I want is slightly sour/natural tasting orange juice, which brand do I buy?
Silly-Network-4551@reddit
Lidl deluxe orange juice is so good
DrHenryWu@reddit
The artificial taste could be from flavour packs a lot of the big brands on use. If it's pure orange juice then there shouldn't be anything added but I believe they can use flavour packs and not add to label

I have just researched this for a half hour as I read this in a US book and wasn't sure how it applied to the UK. I found the answer here which says only physical processes can be used, unlike the US where they can chemically extract "natural flavours" from fruit (eg they could chemically extract an individual ester, but it pretty much has no resemblance to the original fruit because it's just one molecule)

I always thought it was because when stored long term without oxygen it doesn't go bad but loses flavour over time. I suppose giving it a uniform or "brand" taste is important too. Supposedly they can use pulp dissolving enzymes too but unsure how up to date that is
Tropicana use some kind of flavour pack for sure but isn't any clear info for Innocent and the supermarket own brands

What brands have you been buying?

Add a squeeze of lemon? It's nutritionally dead anyway if it's not freshly pressed, so that might actually add a fraction of vitamin C.
Worth_Gap4226@reddit
Nutritionally dead, based on what?
I checked online as this sounded strange, and all I could see was that store bought orange juice still has relatively high levels of vitamin C, with some studies showing only a 5-10% difference between store bought and home pressed.
lost_send_berries@reddit
The WHO advises no more than 150ml of juice a day, as it's high in sugar and has removed the fibre from the original fruit which slows down sugar absorption.
Worth_Gap4226@reddit
I know that part, I was asking where OP got their info from about the juice being 'nutritionally dead'.
lost_send_berries@reddit
It's a silly term, but if you are missing a nutrient, juice would be pretty close to the last thing I would suggest, it tastes bloody good though
PeanutMerchant@reddit
What do you mean that it’s nutritionally dead?
alexmate84@reddit
Pure pressed orange, doesn't matter what brand. You pay about £3 a bottle though
BlueLinnet@reddit
The only obvious answer. Or juice your own for the extra pulp and fun!
FornyHucker22@reddit
innocent or Tropicana are my favourite
k0n3kt@reddit
Orange juice is pretty much all sugar 🤔

I had to explain to a patient once that the reason his HbA1C was high despite his admittedly excellent diet and regular exercise was the 1 litre of Orange juice he was drinking a day. He was from an older generation and thought fruit juice = healthy, more fruit juice = more healthy! I pointed out that a serving is around 200ml and he was having about 25 teaspoons worth of sugar a day just from juice.

I was in the USA on holiday, and ordered a salad in the Cheesecake Factory restaurant. Very nice and all that. Got home, looked at the nutritional data when I got home - 32g of sugar.
Going back to the US next week.. and I will be double checking everything I eat. I certainly won't be drinking smoothies or fruit juices!
My HbA1c was 12.5% when I was diagnosed!

Yeah, I remember telling someone "you'd wouldn't eat eight oranges in a sitting would you? Coz that's what that pint of it is".
Mind you, I once eat eighty 100% RDA Vitamin C tablets in a sitting because "they were nice". Bloody hell that was... explosive.
Organic_Reporter@reddit
I love the fresh fancy ones from Aldi and Lidl. About £2.50 a litre.
douxsoumis@reddit
Buy your own juicer, then you can juice varieties to give you the taste you want.
YragNitram1956@reddit
The kind you squeeze yourself.
DameKumquat@reddit
Oranges have been bred to be sweeter and sweeter by popular demand. If you want less sweet, get pink grapefruit or yellow grapefruit and mix it in.
notanadultyadult@reddit
I like the Tesco finest or the M&S. More expensive though but tastes lovely.
e-pancake@reddit
any 100% orange juice should be good, tesco own is one of my favourites
Lazy-Limit-8684@reddit
The M&S 100% Orange juice is just orange juice. It’s still sweet and sugary though because it’s… juice
SnooDonuts6494@reddit
You get oranges, right? Like, buy some.
And then - get this - you squeeze them.
Behold, juice will emerge, free of artifice.
Ok_Builder_3416@reddit
buy freshly squeezed, there should be no sugar added.

As someone who worked in one of these places as an employee, and had the task of cleaning that thing, I'd advise against it. (Btw that place went out of business in 2018)
Unfortunately most of these machines are hard to break down, so they're only cleaned at the end of the day, meaning the sugary juice is there all day, fermenting. And gathering bugs.
The ones with plastic parts are especially disgusting, citrus does eat into it, so after a while no matter what you do, it's gross.
My advice would be to buy your own glass or metal device and make your own at home.

Marks and Spencers collection orange juice. £3.50 a bottle. Best supermarket juice I've tried.
AubergineParm@reddit
Look at the ingredients.
It’s either 100% orange juice or it isn’t.
Lidl Deluxe Fresh Squeezed is my fave.

Rocks orange juice!
Limp-Boysenberry1583@reddit
This is only a problem if you want to drink it straight from the bottle/carton. Otherwise just dilute it.
Serious_Escape_5438@reddit
Diluting won't change the taste, just make it watery.
fourlegsfaster@reddit
Buy oranges, juice, add juice of a grapefuit, more expensive than cartons.
Blood orange juice, expensive.
SaltyName8341@reddit
Blood oranges have just gone out of season
fourlegsfaster@reddit
Should have said cartons of blood oranges which are more expensive than other cartons. I have the same tastes as OP. so spend much of the year not drinking orange juice.
SaltyName8341@reddit
I move to cherry and pomegranate in the summer
SaltyName8341@reddit
Orangina or Sanpelligreno
