New gaming pc bottleneck

I have a pc with 5070
Ultra 5 245kf
And a single stick of 32gb ddr5 4800mhz
When i am playing apex legends is struggling to get 200 fps and is dropping to 120 in some situations. My friend has a 5060ti and is getting 70fps more than me and his fps are stable. What is happening. I bought this pc one day ago
alkashef88@reddit
just sell ur single ram stick and buy a kit of 2
Riipp3r@reddit
Or, hear me out
Buy a 2nd stick of what ram you have
alkashef88@reddit
what if he bought a stick with different chip, its easy to just buy a new kit if he doesn't know what his ram chip is.
Riipp3r@reddit
It is extremely easy to figure out exactly what you need. Not that deep.
Riipp3r@reddit
You could just leave task manager open on performance in the background. When you get hitches tab out to it and check the graphs see what peaked

What CPU does your friend have? And is he running dual channel?
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
Ryzen 7 9700x and he is runniing in dual channel
kmkm2op@reddit
Now idk how much apex legends favours 1 architecture over another but from the HUB review, the 9700x was 30% faster in cs2 compared to ur cpu and that was running dual channel with good ram speeds. Given how the game is likely cpu bound when playing competitively, I expect noticeably better performance with your friend's system.
kawaii_Summoner@reddit
He has a very slightly better CPU, and running dual channel is ~30% more performance.
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
So if i change to dual channel i will get the performance that is expected from my hardware?
kawaii_Summoner@reddit
Dual channel will help a lot with your 1% lows, and will generally help performance. But I'm not sure if you'll get what you "expect".
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
I expect 240fps stable with my hardware
kawaii_Summoner@reddit
Then I would have gotten an x3d CPU personally.
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
So you mean the ultra 5 245kf is not strong enough?
kawaii_Summoner@reddit
For 240fps 1% lows? Probably not.
AMD's X3D CPUs specifically crush Intel at 1080p high fps competitive/esports titles. 9850x3d > 9800x3d > 9950x3d > 7800x3d > Ultra 5 245kf for such titles.

The 245KF highly prefers dual channel. Apparently the CPU is operating at 50% efficiency according to google. For games that rely on CPU for performance ( Apex is one of these ) you’re realistically going to get a 30-40% performance increase by slapping another stick in the correct slot to allow for dual channel. Must be the same mhz and CL as well.
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
Wow thats a huge bottleneck
9okm@reddit
What CPU does your friend have?
Repulsive-Gap7728@reddit
might be because of the single stick. the ram isn’t running in dual channel
I’m not too sure tho
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
Thats what i am thinking but the performance is very bad. This is why i am thinking it might be something else
Repulsive-Gap7728@reddit
install HWinfo and monitor your temps while running a benchmark or game. I suspect overheating components to be the issue
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
The maximum temp of my gpu is 62 and on my cpu 72
Repulsive-Gap7728@reddit
you mentioned that your friend has a 9700x, that CAN make a difference in cpu heavy titles. I’d say that it’s the cpu as kawaii summoner says
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
But that doesnt explain the 120fps in apex with my setup
Repulsive-Gap7728@reddit
hm alright, that rules out overheating. you never mentioned your friend’s cpu, may I know what cpu it is?
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
Ryzen 7 9700x
yungin44@reddit
likely because he has dual channel memory and probably has xmp enabled
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
I tried to enable xmp but i couldnt find it
yungin44@reddit
look up a guide for your motherboard. you still likely will not get the same performance as him though as his CPU is a bit better and his memory is dual channel. also are y'all playing on the same settings?
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
Yeah we are playing exactly the same settings
yungin44@reddit
saw you say you expect 240 fps and unfortunately the 245k simply isn't that fast. in esports titles like cs2 it's over 100fps behind the 9700x. your GPU may be faster than his but your CPU is holding you back 245k benchmark
TolasSs999@reddit (OP)
So even with dual channel nothing to extreme will happen
yungin44@reddit
well you'd have to buy another stick of memory to be dual channel, you'll probably get an increase in performance but he will probably still win.
