Oil reserves are dwindling at record speed.

"While demand may swing back to growth towards the end of the year if a deal to end the war is agreed that allows flows through the Strait of Hormuz to gradually resume from 3Q26, as is assumed in this Report, supply will likely be slower to recover. As a result, the oil market remains in deficit until the final quarter of the year. With global oil inventories already drawing at a record clip, further price volatility appears likely ahead of the peak summer demand period"
This latest report is based on the assumption this conflict will soon be resolved. I highly doubt that this will happen. Iran still has 70 percent of its launch capability intact.
Resolve would mean Trump backing down and losing face. That's not going to happen.
The future is looking more bleak with every passing week.
merikariu@reddit
I saw this report on Bloomberg TV: US Storage Tanks to Run Empty around July 4. Basically, the US government is emptying its savings account to pay for the deficit in oil production and those savings will run out in a few weeks. As a long-time collapsnik, I try to gently hint at these outcomes to people in my circles, but everyone is stuck in hyper-normalization mode. Thankfully, my wife and I are in agreement and have made life choices to better position ourselves for the hardships that are coming.

We are moving north from Texas to Missouri. In Texas, we have experienced an ever-incrasingbcost of living, failures of the energy grid, drought and other extreme weather events. So we have purchased an inexpensive condo with a low cost of living, like $50 per month in utilities! We have made investments with our spare money in critical industries, like agriculture and minerals. The disruptions caused by the new Persian War have reduced th availablility of fertilizer, sulfur (used in copper extraction), and aluminum smelting. After our immenent move, we will go about seeking community and friendships. I plan to start a collapse discussion and action group in St. Louis.
carelessCRISPR_@reddit
Why’d you pick Missouri? Missouri govt is terrible.
Signed, Former Missouri Resident
merikariu@reddit
Yes, it is and the St. Louis government isn't great either. Our choice was made based on cost of living, urban amenities, the number of universities (my wife is a PhD), a plentiful supply of water, nature parks, and a reasonable climate.
Intelligent-Cruella@reddit
Move to the Illinois side of the state line! You'll still have easy access to St Louis, but the state government is much better.
merikariu@reddit
Ah, but I have some guns, as I am moving from Texas, so I prefer the lack gun laws of MO.
Intelligent-Cruella@reddit
You can legally own guns in Illinois with an FOID, which is very easy to obtain. 🤷🏻♂️

I saw someone critique that report on the basis that oil will hit tank bottom on around July 4, but tank bottom means different things for Gasoline than Oil and that they expect Gasoline to last a decent while longer. Not sure how accurate or relevant that distinction is or if its just kicking the can down the road at best but, thought I'd bring it up
ArugulaAcrobatic4018@reddit
It's accurate because the supply chain itself, from refineries to storage to fuel stations, holds a lot of product.
Be more concerned about diesel fuel, though. It's a hassle if you have to bike or walk to the grocery store, but if the trucks can't deliver food to the grocery store then everything is fucked.
merikariu@reddit
Thank you! Yes, it all seems complicated in that there are different fuels that vary in availability, even by region. For example, I've heard that California receives crude oil from the Middle East, so the blockade is affecting the weat coast more than other regions.

Absolutely insane what's going on right now. By August gas prices are gonna go through the freaking roof you can bet that.
Texuk1@reddit
I’m genuinely puzzled by the market, I suspect that the various players in the system are hanging on for a TACO therefore quick move back to status quo. But it’s so obvious that this is a clusterfuck so why is the forward pricing not reflecting a semi-permanent move to scarcity. Perhaps it’s because certain section of the planet have been priced out of oil which allows richer nation to consume a greater share of the oil at a high but not overly high price. It’s so hard to work it out.
jbond23@reddit
Oil and gas storage is dwindling due to the Israel-US-Iran war supply shock. That's a problem measured in months and years. But what about reserves still in the ground measured in decades?
ArugulaAcrobatic4018@reddit
Trump and an entourage of tech bigwigs are heading to China to hammer out a deal. If they don't offer good terms, Xi will do what he needs to do

Neither Xi nor Iran should be negotiating with terrorists.
Bluest_waters@reddit
And Iran isn't run by terrorists? It's terrorists all the way around everywhere you look. America is currently run by a gang of corrupt idiotic terrorists, possibly the dumbest terrorist ever. Iran is run by religious fruitcake terrorists. Israel is run by a megalomaniac terrorist. Russia is run by a terrorist. It's terrorists all the way down
mikemaca@reddit
No, Iran is not run by terrorists, unlike the US and Israel.
daywreckerdiesel@reddit
Iran has never once attacked another country in its entire history except for self-defense.
PlausiblyCoincident@reddit
Not really. China doesn't care about anyone else and they have been preparing for either a prolonged trade war, which has mostly gone in their favor, or sanctions from an eventual Taiwan siege, which they may not need to engage in now that the US is militarily depleted and is unlikely or incapable of defending or helping Taiwan defend against Chinese aggression. China is likely to be able to weather the situation for a year or more. Xi is in no rush to help clean up Trump's mistakes.
AZORxAHAI@reddit
Anything is possible I guess, but China gains absolutely nothing from forcibly accelerating a Taiwan reintegration plan right now. The U.S. is far down the road towards its own collapse at this point, and China has demonstrated immense capacity for patience and planning in the past.
If (and that is an actual "if") they are planning to reintegrate by force one day, they are pretty heavily motivated to wait until after the U.S. is no longer a major player at all. Basically the only way empires in decline manage to revitalize themselves is a real hot war to unify around and reignite industry and economy. Why would China take that risk when they are already winning?
They are way better positioned to weather an oil shock than most of the rest of the globe, given they are one of the few countries that have invested heavily into alternative energy already, and have an already existing production pipeline to ramp that up even more if they need to. They are probably more inclined to let the U.S. hang themselves and take the EU down with them
Bluest_waters@reddit
OK...? And what exactly does he need to do? What are his options?
Ghostwoods@reddit
He can laugh his ass off. He's fine either way.
No_Foundation16@reddit
I expect gas shortages soon just like the oil embargo in the 70's. This disruption is worse that that one was so it's coming.
People are pissed now about 4.99 gallon gas. Just wait until it's six bucks or more..IF..you can find a gas station that has any! Then you get in a long line and hope the pumps don't run dry before it's your turn!
It's coming folks, be sure to thank Trump and the MAGA cult when it gets here!
mikemaca@reddit
The interesting part is the US produced more gas products than we use across the board and the cost of production has not gone up at all. The only thing that is happening in the US is our domestic companies are price gouging us, which is resulting in record profits for them and their investors, and misery for the public and economy outside of petroleum.
Nationalize the oil industry and the problem goes away. Much of the rest of the world may face shortages, caused by the US and Israel war on Iran, but the US produces more oil than we use.
okiedokie321@reddit

Unfortunately I live in a place that's just Out Of Reach of public transportation. I would literally have to walk 10 Mi to the first bus stop. And that's a long road that people are going 65 mph that has no sidewalk. From there take the bus all the way downtown to a transfer station and then finally to my job, making what would be a 25-minute ride in to a 5-hour ordeal, from which there is no ride home after work because I work at night.

If you think Trump walking away from this bed he just shit doesn't diminish the US in every way then you need to check your bias. Every single American is about to realize that their beloved military has been neutered by a regional actor.
VeganFartsForever@reddit
weird assumption to make, champ.
I don't have any pro US bias, champ. Facts on the ground are pretty clear to those who've been paying attention for longer than a couple of years and the story makes more sense when you benefit from having the larger picture. The war in Ukraine is existential for Russia in many way. Constant NATO expansion east, for example, US weapons systems setup along the Russian border within striking distance of Moscow, for example. Western interference in Ukrainian and other eastern European politics, for example. None of this to suggest I have a pro Russian bias either. I'm just not willing to deep throat propaganda. Iran has no weapons systems on the borders of the US, Iran is not meddling in the politics of Canada or Mexico. So, no, champ, this is absolutely not an existential war for the US the way it is for Russia. The US and western allies have been trying to undermine Russia for decades. Always pushing just a little further.

Pointing out that we're living under minority rule and no one's doing anything about it - or worse, calling it a Democracy that just needs a few tweaks - isn't the exoneration that you're making it sound like. Yeah, it's like 99% of the US that supports what we have or something similar.

He doesn't experience "shame" like normal people, but he can be easily humiliated. That's the thing about narcissists - they seem utterly shameless, but their egos are incredibly fragile and they will do ANYTHING to protect them.
But a normal person's shame response is born out of empathy, somewhere down the line - they're ashamed because they failed someone, or hurt someone, or did something that they understand made them look foolish from another person's perspective.
A narcissist's shame response comes from confirmation that they are as weak and useless as their abusive dad programmed them to feel, and the only way to prevent that is to never feel weak. To always win and dominate and refuse to compromise.
That's why the "art of the deal" guy is fundamentally unable to make any kind of deal, ever. Negotiation requires empathy. He doesn't deal, he demands, and turns into a fucking infant the second he doesn't get his way 100% from a defeated enemy who is thanking him for the humiliation.
Texuk1@reddit
It’s more complicated than that, pathological narcissism (we are all narcissistic btw) is about doing everything possible to avoid feeling shame. Because they feel shame so intensely they do elaborate mental gymnastics to avoid allowing it to come into conscious awareness. They develop a personality that never hovers on the vulnerable because someone in their childhood or groups of people in their cultural upbringing induced the feelings of shame in a threatening way consistently. Pathological narcissist are prone to narcissism but are made by their environment. To feel it is the equivalent of destruction / castration and they can’t allow it to be felt. That’s why they act and do things which appear odd and self destructive to the everyday person.
ThirdFloorNorth@reddit

What happens when you kick some bully’s ass on the street? He goes home and beats his family…more. It feels like a domestic abuse case living in the US - I mean, it has since its inception for black and brown folks, but we’re at the “drunken rage” stage where any loss on the world stage will drive fascists to double down on their efforts to completely break all Americans mentally and physically. Grist for the mill they say.
We’re are being challenged to adopt drastically different mindsets in the face of mounting authoritarianism - the struggle for political power, the need to localize community food production, and the inevitable demand to divorce from a petroleum dependent paradigm place a near impossible level of awakening upon us that, quite frankly, feels quite out of reach. It would be great if people were seeing this and preparing, but it looks like the needed movements won’t happen until after it the demand is immediate.

I see the orange pedo using a nuke one one or two scenarios
1. He gets so fed up with Iran having all the power and them not capitulating the he finally strikes out and nukes them
2. Russia finally collapses and the leaked from various people in russia about the orang pedo start coming out. He nukes Iran to “distract” from him being a Russian asset/pedo/crook. In his senile rotted mind, he thinks that launching a nuke is the best and only option
t1mebomb@reddit
If (and I like to think that the answer is not) a nuke is launched, wouldn’t that mean the end of civilization as we know it due to the subsequent launch of other nukes, that would mean the launch of others, and so on?

Basically, in this day and age a low grade nuke, 200 kilotons, is the low threshold by which its fireball would reach high enough to burn away the ozone layer above it.
Enough of these and you have an ozone layer that would take centuries to repair.

Trump is unwilling to concede anything and will only exit if Iran agrees to all of Trump's master's demands. For Iran this is the final war and they will only exit as free people and are willing to die to the last person. They also can and will continue to do eye for eye on industrial and military targets. Unlike their enemies though Iran does not intentionally target schools, hospitals, or civilians.
There is no off rand. Trump recently informed Iran that we have a nuclear sub dockey in Spain with range enough to hit Iran from the Med with enough nuclear tridents to eliminate most major Iranian cities. This is the most likely outcome.

USA is a dying empire, and all empires commit suicide in the end, which is what we are doing.
KlicknKlack@reddit
It ain't suicide. Its multiple different actors with different agendas purposefully creating discord within the country. Hell, just look at 2016 and how many bots were being used to influence the election... now realize that post-covid with LLM's you can do that in a more sophisticated manner, at a scale unprecedented, practically instantly 24/7.

The decline of the US is well documented and definitely predates 2016 and Trump.
WakingRage@reddit
Empires prior to the US were all pre-digital. A digitalized society is so much easier to sow discord and spread misinformation.

I am not certain suicide is the correct descriptor. Rape and harvesting of all organs for sale on the black market seems more accurate.
/s. But also not because fuck this timeline

It is in the sense that we are accelerating our own decline by doubling down on all of the things that are causing our decline. Actually, our biggest problem is that we still believe that we are the country that we were in 1945-79. That country is gone forever, and rather than adapt to the changing circumstances of today, we are still acting like we are the world's hegemon.
It is clearly over for us in that sense, which is not the end of the world. We could move on, but we are going to go into the night kicking and screaming instead - make "America Great Again" when you can't go back to the unique, fortuitous set of circumstances that we benefited from during the post-War period ever again.
Empires do this in the end. They pretend to be fixing things, but rather than plugging the holes in the sinking ship, they are creating more and more of them by accelerating the sinking. In that sense, bad is good because it is bringing about the inevitable end anyway.

I think this fight is more for Israel ... Israel and middle east country as well as its neighboring south east asia need more friendly Iran and US is kind of involved through Israel and until and unless Israel objectives are done this will continue ... i saw yatu framework for Iran war kind of explain it .... but this whole thing will be very painful

Reading the comments on this sub, you all seem desperate. Good thing, as a white person selling my endangered ethnicity, I just want the world to go to hell. Even though I don't see any difference in the climate.

You are selling your ethnicity? How my much for a pound?
