Upgrading from an i7 9700F to a Ryzen 5 5600x following a GPU upgrade

My old RTX 2070 recently kicked the bucket and I replaced it with a barely-used RTX 3070 that I got a good friendship-deal on. Everything works nicely after the upgrade, though my CPU (Intel i7 9700F on a B360-F mobo) is running hot in a lot of the games that I play, and I want to get an upgrade for it despite it still "working".
My mobo is a dead end upgrade-wise, as I won't be able to fit anything better on the 1151 socket, so if I want to upgrade my CPU I have to get a new mobo as well. This got me to think it was time for an overhaul, and now I have gotten an offer from a guy I know to get a B550-Plus with a Ryzen 5 5600x for about \~300 USD (not exact conversion from my currency, but ish 300$). The B550 also comes with a WiFi 6 card.
I have a 650W Gold PSU, and it looks like I'll have enough wattage for the setup with the B550-Plus, R5 5600x, and the RTX 3070, so it looks like that would be a good deal for me and that I'd have a setup that would suit my needs and fit my budget. My original setup was built in 2018 and was due for an upgrade anyways, but I am wondering if I should try to look around for something a little bit better now that I'm finally overhauling it.
Despite the opportunity for what seems like a great pick of mobo+CPU, I keep looking at other possibilities... I'm just worried that I could be suffering from upgradeitis, but at the same time I'd want to futureproof my PC, because I didn't do so when I first built it.
I'd love to hear some opinions, hopefully from anyone who has used these components before.

Is the CPU still performing how you want? Consider upgrading the cooler and repasting, you may be able to take the cooler to your next build too. That may give you room to play with overclocking.

There is a newegg combo for 16GB RAM, b550 mobo and a Ryzen 5500 for $250. I think that offer is too much.
I would wait for the 5800X3D to be the released soon and look for MOBO/CPU combos with that.

AMD AM4 socket is already EoL. I heard stuff about a new batch of 5800X3D coming out, but I have not seen them.
The Intel LGA1700 is also EoL, but it can generally support your existing DDR4 and higher-performing CPUs.
I think AMD AM5 has at least one more generation of CPUs behind it. Intel is going to do an Intel thing and change the socket this year.
Honestly, though, I don't buy into the whole "upgrade the CPU down the road" mindset.
When my CPU no longer can do what I want it to do, historically, I want the new features that new motherboards offer too.

That would only be a minor upgrade not worth the price. The 5700x won't perform any better than the 5600x in gaming, only 5700x3d or 5800x3d would actually perform significantly better. Go with an lga 1700 upgrade instead.
Also, if your issue is just the CPU running hot, upgrade your cooler.

if you want to use ddr4 ram , get on lga 1700. there are some really good cpus. for example a 13400f outperforms almost any am4 cpu, even tho is a “budget “ option. anyways 300 is definitely too much, especially if used.you can find a good mobo and a new 5600x for 100 and 130 each. even if where you live they cost more, they surely cost less than 300$.

I'm considering getting the same mobo (B550-Plus) but maybe a slightly better CPU, the R7 5700x, as it's only slightly more expensive (60$ more).
Do you have any experience with the R5 5600x or the R7 5700x, or any other viable alternatives? I do want to switch to AMD, but I'd like to stay at the AM4 socket I think.

one of my friend has a 5800xt. is a good cpu, basically the best one you can get for gaming that doesn’t has 3d v cache on am4. i don’t think the 5700x it’s worth the extra money if you are just playing games(even for cpu bound games you won’t see a difference that is worth the money), but the difference is noticeable for productivity

Are you lucky enough to live by a microcenter? $300 is what you’d pay for an am5 mobo/cpu/16gb ram bundle

No, unfortunately. I'm gonna have to order online or buy used locally. I do want to go for the AM4 socket though, as all my RAM is DDR4.

I’d say 300$ is a lot for 5600x / b550 mobo, even with today’s absurd prices
Given the 5600x can be found for 150$ brand new on aliexpress (and even around 100$ used), and mobos are found for 100$ too on aliexpress

Thanks, yeah I'm looking around and it's only slightly less than what I'd pay for the same components unused from local suppliers. I'm not gonna get my components from AliExpress, though.

So the complaint is temperatures? Not performance?
What cooler are you using for it?

I would not pay more than $200 for a used 5600X and B550 board.
