What’s your favourite type of dog?

Favourite dogs and why please. No negativity for other dogs, just interested as what’s your fave?

I have always had Labradors. Big dogs but ideal family dog as they are so placid and friendly.
Loquis@reddit
We've got a chocolate labrador crossed with a weimaraner, he got he nuts part of both breeds
SleepySloth2468@reddit
The only dog I have had was a staffie. I loved how robust he was so i could play and stroke him hard and he loved it. Plus if he tried to get behind me on the sofa i didnt feel like i would squash him or hurt him. Ideal size for picking up and carrying if needed and decent floppy soft ears!
Saying that he was a rescue and i feel like him having a difficult past just made that love and bond even stronger. So my answer is either staffie or rescue. I used to be a big fan of spaniels but i keep hearing how insanely high energy they are.

Love Fox Terriers, I don't see enough of them!

Terriers with beards.

Shiba Inu!
Gothywinelady@reddit
They're smaller than I expected. Only saw one once. It was so damn cute.
alicatpow@reddit
My old dog used to hate Shiba Inus. He was normally quite uninterested in other dogs but if he saw one of these he was ready to throw paws. Apparently, the pointy ears and upright tail reads as aggressive body language to a lot of dogs so they get a lot of flack at the park. Same for huskies I think.

I've got a border collie so I feel obligated to say them, but to be honest I wouldn't get a more collie-esque collie - mine is like a collie-lite and is quite happy just cuddling up and sleeping all day. I know most of them are much more intense and I wouldn't be into that.
I grew up with staffies and I have never met a bad-natured staffy so probably them. It upsets me online when Americans are always calling them pitbulls and acting like they are ticking time bombs. I was never without one as a young kid and they were all so gentle and careful with me even when I was dive bombing onto their backs 😅.
Honourary mention for samoyeds - I don't know what their nature is like but whenever I see one in the park they look so happy and fluffy. I used to live near a park in Glasgow and would watch from my window as a man took a perfectly white fluffy cloud of a dog in and then half an hour later he would come out with a muddy bedraggled version of the same dog, skipping delightedly down the road 😂
Midnightraven3@reddit
What a delightful and funny image I have of that!
Where I live a woman has walked past with a Dalmatian for quite a wee while, now she has a pram and for some reason the normally behaved dog is more like a helium balloon as its anywhere but on the ground, I dont know how she copes

Greyhound. They weren't anywhere near my favourite before I got one, and now I couldn't imagine having any other kind. Before that it was border collies, I used to be around them a lot when I'd go back to Ireland as a kid, but they're far too much work for a busy family
rice_fish_and_eggs@reddit
The greyhounds are so underrated. They're probably the easiest dogs to own. Rarely bark, very affectionate, loves to sleep, two 20 minute walks a day is enough. And very quirky too, with the leaning. The only bad thing about them is the first time you hear the gsd. My old one used to do it when lifting him into the boot. First time I heard it I thought I must have broken it's ribs, the noise was blood curdling.
WinglyBap@reddit
It’s insane how little exercise the fastest dog needs.
Gold-Creme-9597@reddit
Agree, sighthounds for life. The chillest, sweetest souls, they make great city dogs!
stewieatb@reddit
We have two and they're fantastic.
They're rescues so they come with a bit of baggage. Old injuries from the track and some prey drive. But in the house they're sweet and affectionate and sleep for 20hrs a day.

My new favourite word, thank you.
TheTabar@reddit
Take away their cuteness, would people still care about dogs?
EdgarAlansHoe@reddit
What an incredibly stupid question. Thousands of years of co-evolution have created a symbiotic relationship between humans and dogs. Dogs provide comfort, support, unconditional love, companionship, loyalty, connection, let alone working dogs used for farming, security, guide dogs etc. It's a bond that has stood the test of time and "cuteness" is only a part of why humans connect with dogs.
Do you think appearance is the only condition for love and connection? Why do you feel that way? Maybe that's something you should work on.
Also, if you don't personally like dogs then why even open the post and make such an inane, pointless comment. Grow up and let other people enjoy things.
Get_schwifty93@reddit
Thanks for writing this out so I didn't have to 😅
werewolfbutch874@reddit
You could argue that dogs are cute because we care about them. They were one of the first species we domesticated and have evolved alongside us for thousands of years, becoming more and more “cute” over time because domestication tends to result in animals keeping more of their baby features (like big eyes and floppy ears) and generally being shaped towards human preferences. Wolves are beautiful but I don’t think most people would describe them as cute compared to a Pomeranian or a spaniel. The cuteness comes from the care, not the other way round.
Editor-In-Queef@reddit
I mean, the breed of dog named after this country isn't exactly kawaii.

Rescue Greyhounds. Most of them have had such a bad life, especially the Glagos from Spain, and it is so satisfying to give them a good home and watch them come out of themselves. And they're such great pets - so calm and gentle. You do lose your sofa though, as it is the natural habitat of the Greyhound.

Bernese mountain dog/ border collie this was my mix, he was sooo loving and the most chilled collie youd meet ( think he more got the bernese genes 🤣)
werewolfbutch874@reddit
German Shepherds have been my favourite since I was a child because they’re handsome, smart and trainable. Then as I got older I learned that they also have a tendency to be very anxious, especially if they’re not well-bred and/or not socialised well as a puppy, and that honestly just makes me like them more because I too am poorly socialised and anxious. I’ll never be able to own one myself but I do love them.
My favourite breed as an owner is chihuahuas. Their small size makes them easier to care for, they don’t need as much exercise as big dogs, their food and vet bills are cheaper, they’re adorable and incredibly loving. They get a bad rep because people like to antagonise them for “funny” videos online and they’re often not raised/trained well, and they can be aloof or nervous around strangers so they come off as unfriendly, but they form extremely close bonds with their owners and become the sweetest little cuddlebugs around their people.

Collies. Smart enough to do a Rubik's cube with their mind. Dumb enough to get into really daft situations.
Currently have Welsh Sheepdogs and they're the same, if a bit more chaotic. I blame the Kelpie in them

Whippets because they are both incredibly fast but also incredibly lazy!

Border collies and flat coated retrievers.
Grew up with a border collie and she was the absolute best girl.
Flat coated retrievers are uncommon to see but their temperament is absolutely fabulous and their coats are amazing

Westies for me, always has been, always will be.

Greyhound! I am going to a kennels next week to start the process of adopting my first ever dog, a retired racer, and I am so so excited. Been waiting so long for this! I think they're so funny, affectionate, goofy, and their faces are soooo sweet and loving.
Made_Up_Name_1@reddit
Ones that the owners properly control when out in public and that the owners properly train so they don't sit in the house/garden barking all day when the owners are out and that the owners have properly trained not to jump up at people however much their tail is wagging. So it's less about the dog and more about the owner being responsible. Obviously puppies have a bit more leeway as they're learning, but then this is also the best time for the owner to instil good behaviour by rewarding it and punishing unwanted behaviour.
tl;dr pretty much any well behaved well trained dog is my favourite.

Psychological-Bag272@reddit
English Bulldogs. They just have the most human personalities ever. It's like hanging out a little childhood best friend. Sadly, they are usually poorly bred resulting in many health issues. I do not recommend people to buy, though I recommend people to rescue.
ReporterOk4531@reddit
I'd never get a dog myself as I am firmly a cat lady but my great grandfather used to own white German shepherds and they look very pretty. I'm also inclined to ooo and aaa when I see a well taken care off Pomeranian. They're pretty cute too.

Ive always said my next dog will be different, but probably not. Papillion if so, but i wont ever paying thousands for a dog.
My dream dog is an Australian cattle dog, but they arent suitable for my lifestyle.
welsh_cthulhu@reddit
Lurchers. I have one curled up on my bed now - staffie greyhound cross.
Just the absolute best pets ever. Incredible with other humans and dogs. Very sociable. Not a nasty bone in their body. Clever. Funny. Emotive. They love running but are INCREDIBLY lazy in the house (low metabolism built for short bursts) and turn into cats the moment they get in the door.
I'd never have another breed.

Jug (Jack Russell x Pug). Most lively, sweet and fun little dogs I've ever had the privilege of sharing my life with. Can't imagine life without a Jug in it!

Side note: they have nice long snouts and normal eyes so don't suffer the eye or breathing complications that Pugs usually develop.
