ULPT How I Stopped Someone From Playing Their Radio/CD Player In The Office

The guy on the other side of my wall in our cube farm used to play his boom box tuned to a local radio station. The volume was low, but loud enough to break my concentration. I asked him once to please turn it off or wear headphones and he told me to go fuck myself.
Bought a small FM transmitter and tuned it to his station. Plugged my iPod into it playing a white noise track. When he switched stations, I would too.
So he switched to playing CDs.
I came in on a Saturday and put a drop of clear nail polish on the laser that is used to "read" CDs. (It's pretty much undetectable once it dries and the scent has dispersed). By Monday morning, the CD playing function was disabled.
Hey Jerry, if you stumble across this post, go lick a dog's asshole until your tongue bleeds.
I used to be angry about it but I'm over it now. đ

I used to work at a place where a guy would blast loud music from his PC workstation. It was a warehouse/processing environment, which was already pretty loud. I wrote a script and hid it in his startup folder that would turn down his volume by one notch every 30 seconds. The volume would slowly decrease over the course of like 10 minutes until it was barely audible. He would turn it back up, it would slowly go back down. He eventually started asking around if someone was messing with his computer. No one knew what he was talking about, including me. Some say that computer is still no use for music blasting.

I dunno, that's a lot of work. I would have imagined at some point, the cleaning crew "stole" Jerry's boom box.

lol

FM transmitter?! That is some next level genius thinking!

They used to be more common. You could plug something, like a Walkman, into it and then tune your car radio to the channel it broadcasts on. The signal strength is very low-barely enough to reach adjacent cars. In my instance, all it had to do was reach 3 feet to the radio on the other side of the cubicle partition.

I used to have one that was specifically made for the iPod (to use in the car that didnât have aux in.)
It was tiny and had no interface; but instead came with a bunch of short audio files youâd load on your iPod that would play a digital code to tell the attached transmitter to tune to a frequency or change a setting. I thought that was such a clever solution.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but I have this thingamabob that I use in my very basic car to act as a bluetooth receiver which then transmits it into my car radio at a certain channel so that I can finally listen to my phone on the car radio. If you're saying it's not common there anymore, that means I'm very outdated lol.
yourdonefor_wt@reddit
That's exactly what he's talking about.
A way to play music from your phone to older cars without Bluetooth.

Yeah I worked with an entitled bully like this. She was the one playing her radio at her desk, with the ads and all, so loud and crappy metal sound. But as soon as someone else in the office would play music she'd complain. Because she was the one with most experience, being there the longest, it's like she was untouchable and boss wouldn't say anything to her.
kennjen@reddit
I had an opposite situation. Some nervous Nelly, who said that I speak too loudly in my cube during meetings and phone calls. She came to complain one day. And my cube neighbor was giving me the rolling eye and then came over to say that I wasnât loud.

Tacoma, I like your style. Never let 'em see you coming.

How would one adapt to a Bluetooth speaker?
Background_Ad3973@reddit
There's frequency jammers but I think they cost a bit more
SeanFrank@reddit
Jammers are extremely illegal, like Federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison illegal.
But you can get devices that send a signal to the device to disconnect. You have to disconnect them manually, but eventually they'll get the message.

Oooh yeahđ forgot about that tidbit, I used to commit federal crimes casually in my younger days
dam11214@reddit
Did the same thing in AIT(school after bootcamp in the army).
There was this dude and he was overtly gay. So the drill sergeant didnt know how to address him cause they didn't want to get in trouble.
Anyways. This soldier was aware for that and abused it. Playing mad loud music and doing yoga and shit.
I broke into his locker and removed the laser reader.(this was in 08)
WhatIsASW@reddit
Overtly gay? *The horror*
dam11214@reddit
Think about it. Youre done with your day and sharing the room with 5 dudes. Youre all tired and shit froms class, PT, and drills. So you want to chill out.
But the the overtly gay dude puts on some workout music and starts putting his ass all over the place doing yoga while dancing and shit.
Nobody really cares about the gayness and whatnot. Its the being inconsiderate and annoying that was the part. I described him being gay with the yoga and whatnot to illustrate the situation.
People want to focus on that and trip out thats on them.
spaceisourplace222@reddit
Yeah, heâs the WORST for stretching his muscles while in combat or whatever. Ughđ
ShadowNick@reddit
Curious what OP meant by that. We had a overtly gay person that would make sexual jokes every 5 minutes and caress people. Very annoying after the first day.
I'm sure OP meant it in a dick ish way though.
spaceisourplace222@reddit
Arenât you a big tough guy
paukapaukaa@reddit
Right?! I bet he felt so âalphaâ after typing that out. Sad
dam11214@reddit
I put like a context somewhere in this thread. Take a look at it(or dont) and just enjoy the conversation for what it is.
No gay hate or care even here.
Area51Resident@reddit
Yoga - the ultimate crime against humanity. What an ass.
endersg@reddit
I'm confused. What purpose did pointing out he was gay make? Was he consistently playing YMCA and Taylor Swift? Would you have done the same if they were black? If they were white and straight?
originalmango@reddit
I wonder if thereâs an easy way to record and playback whatever theyâre playing on their radio with a slight delay so it just sounds like an annoying echo.

It does have that vibe, but those tips are solid.

Thank you for this tip! I do not understand people that think it is ok to play their trash music aloud. Itâs so selfish.

I was told I could listen to my radio at a low volume while I collate
