Is 1050mb/s enough for modern AAA games?

Ive been looking for an external ssd since my internal ssd's storage is full and my motherboard only has one m.2 slot so i found a 2tb external ssd for 865 riyals (230 dollars) from sandisk with 1050mb/s read and 1000mb/s write speeds is that enough for modern AAA games?

I use a Sata ssd. It’s fine. It’s only slow when installing games with many small files.
Sousuke-Sagara@reddit
It's slow compared to today's standards. Will be some loading times for sure.
blob8543@reddit
Benchmarks say he won't notice a difference with regular m.2 drives.
Sousuke-Sagara@reddit
few seconds here and there for loading times
ProZapz@reddit
so slow

Thats it? Or will my fps be worse
Sousuke-Sagara@reddit
can't see it making your fps worse. just loading times compared to faster ones its much better than a HDD so am sure you will be ok.

Thx

make sure the ssd has dram cache, then you'll be fine
ProZapz@reddit
you don’t need dram cache
beirch@reddit
SATA SSDs actually need DRAM, as opposed to NVME SSDs which do fine without.
ProZapz@reddit
The SSD he mentions uses SLC cache
beirch@reddit
Yes, I know. I'm just talking in a general sense if other people are reading through the thread.

The SanDisk Extreme 2TB Portable SSD (1050MB/s model, usually SDSSDE61) generally uses an NVMe SSD architecture that relies on SLC caching rather than dedicated physical DRAM cache. It leverages high-speed, 3D NAND technology to achieve 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds over USB 3.2 Gen 2
ProZapz@reddit
Just make sure you use the correct USB port when you plug it in though, and the cable provided in the box. Otherwise you'll see lower speeds than that. If possible though I'd try to get an internal SATA ssd, should be cheaper also.
salmonmilks@reddit
you'll be not fine without dram?
beirch@reddit
DRAM is useful for drive health, but also for file transfering in general. Some SATA SSDs actually slow to a crawl even when transferring small files if they don't have DRAM, because they lack a dedicated cache and a PCI bus.
MoistWelder8712@reddit
Don't trust anything you read on the internet. Outside of data transfer 99% wouldn't notice the difference betweeme dram less and dram cache, even outside of gaming. Absolutely doesn't matter.

Alr thx
blob8543@reddit
What model is this? 1000mb/s is an unusual speed for an SSD.
tiga_94@reddit
you will wait longer to load a game, some games - significantly longer, and installing will be definitely take a lot more time
MoistWelder8712@reddit
Haha yeah don't worry. Sata SSDs are more than fine for gaming. The only real benefit is loading times of games/maps etc. You won't notice any difference during gaming
beirch@reddit
Unless it's SATA 3 and you're playing the newest Ratchet & Clank.
SituationFit9810@reddit (OP)
Thx

SATA 3 is only 600mb/s.
1050mb/s is more than enough for games as none are to my knowledge reliant on faster throughput than is possible with a sata ssd to run.
