Is RTX 5060ti 16gb worth double the price of 5060 8gb?

I need to decide this, anyone have opinions on this dilemma?
Also Im not looking for higher since It will be SFF build and looking only 5000 series for better features.
AMD Im open to it but Im still more into Nvidia because of CUDA.
prank_mark@reddit
Why do you want CUDA? It only helps in professional workloads. It does nothing for gaming.

For local llm if i need it for copilot or thinghy for better compactability
prank_mark@reddit
Copilot isnt a local LLM. Are you sure you want to start running local LLM? Because you don't seem very sure about it. And it's not like AMD can't run LLMs.

Question, i have a deal right now which is 5060 for 1182.84, 9060xt 16gb for 1700. Its jn rm. If i go 5060, i can upgrade the cpu to a higher tier (which is more important to me since i play 1080p competitive games).
Is it worth it?
prank_mark@reddit
I'd go 9060 XT 16GB for sure. Which CPUs are you deciding between?
Conscious-Analyst662@reddit
Yeah if it’s the same price a 9060 xt 16GB is so much more worth it
esw123@reddit
If you want cheapest new 16Gb with CUDA - yes, but I'd take used 3090 for 650 euro. If 16 GB is only what you need, take used 4060Ti 16GB for 350 euro.
Curius_pasxt@reddit (OP)
I already mentioned I build SFF pc, recently sold my 3090 to downsized my pc
esw123@reddit
How small your case is? There are few small 3090 that still can fit SFF and not too hot with 240-250W undervolt, but SFF can be up to 20L.
Curius_pasxt@reddit (OP)
7L case, max 206mm
esw123@reddit
Had to double check, seen used RTX A4000 for 300 euro, should fit with custom cooler.
esw123@reddit
I've seen used RTX 4000 SFF Ada for 300 euro. 168mm only, check them.
tronatula3@reddit
No, the Vram amount does not matter at 1080p and 1440p, the difference is only 2 fps
Dorennor@reddit
Fuck you idiots who tell this BS. Now go and fucking search benchmarks for Indiana Jones, Doom Dark Ages, Death Stranding 2, GOW Ragnarok, Space Marines 2, Final Fantasy 16, Monster Hunter Wilds, Ark Survival Ascended, Star Wars Jedi, Hogwarts Legacy, Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk with any kind of RT and all other games with any kind of RT - and just acknowledge that you wrote full BS.
kokosgt@reddit
No.
Curius_pasxt@reddit (OP)
Reason why?
kokosgt@reddit
You choosed not to disclose the prices, so Im also choosing not to disclose my reasons.
Dorennor@reddit
Yes. It is more powerful + with adequate amount of VRAM. This GPU will last longer. 5060 will be dead in next few years and already can't run some games with adequate performance/graphics.
Do not buy 8 Gb GPU. Not anymore.
Curius_pasxt@reddit (OP)
But is it worth double the price?
Dorennor@reddit
Let's say it another way - if your choices are to buy 8 Gb GPU or buy adequate GPU - your real choice is if you want buy adequate GPU or do not buy anything at all.
I just would not buy GPU at all if I don't have sufficient money for non obsolete GPU and just would prefer use current one.
8 Gb GPUs are basically trash. Yeah, they can run a loot games. But we have extremely bad trend: games use more than 8.
I have 3060ti and personally I never would buy 8 Gb GPU cause my 8 Gb GPU already cannot handle all assets. Death Stranding 2 uses 8.5-9 Gb, GOW Ragnarok same, AW2, Indiana Jones, Space Marines 2, SW Jedi Survivor, FF16 and any RT title basically. Also a lot of UE5 titles.
Some games just drop their performance, some of them require to make your textures look like trash. Some of them just won't work with stable FPS and after 5-15 min will drop FPS to 40-45.
If you don't want to buy 12-16 GB GPU - just don't buy anything. It will be useless upgrade if you will buy 8 Gb in 2026.

It’s hard to answer without knowing ur local pricing and what you actually want the card to do.
If the 5060 Ti 16GB is literally double the price, between the two, I’d still lean toward the 16GB Ti if you can afford it. But it might not be for everyone.
That 8GB of VRAM is already pre tight in newer games, especially if you want higher settings, ray tracing, or to keep the card for a few years. The 16GB model gives you heaps more breathing room and is the safer buy for longevity.
If you’re mostly playing lighter games at 1080p and you’re very budget-constrained, the 8GB card can still make sense. But if you care about future-proofing, smoother frametimes, or any CUDA / creator / AI-type use on the side, I’d buy the 5060 Ti 16GB and not think too hard about it.
Curius_pasxt@reddit (OP)
Purchasing power adjusted, 5060 8gb costed like $1.1k here while 5060ti 16gb costed $2.2k
Conscious-Analyst662@reddit
Damn you were being literal. What currency is this? What country you in?
I’d say it’s only worth considering if you specifically need the extra VRAM, want more longevity, or have CUDA / AI / creator workloads that justify paying a big premium.
I just paid AUD$1500 for a 5070 Ti, ~USD$1050 PPP.
perrance68@reddit
5060ti is better for longevity and future proofing. If you dont plan on buying a new gpu for the next 5 - 10 years its probably worth it. Currently, 8gb ram is more than enough. If you edit video in 4k than the 16gb ram will be a lot more useful.
If extra $200-$300 is not an issue for you than go for it. Your not gonna get 2x the performance. At best maybe 10%-20% in gaming (questionable if you will even notice any real difference).
Curius_pasxt@reddit (OP)
$300 here purchasing power wise is like $1200
So if 5060 8gb costed $1200 while 5060ti 16gb costed $2.4k which one do you buy?
prank_mark@reddit
Neither
CalligrapherCold364@reddit
16gb is worth it if ur keeping the build long term or doing any ml work, for gaming only right now the 8gb is fine
Curius_pasxt@reddit (OP)
Yeah i figure also its better for long term and if local llm better in the future 16gb will be good but is it worth 2x the price of 5060 8gb?
katzengoldgott@reddit
If you want to do local LLM or any other sort of productivity where you need the CUDA cores for, I’d go for the 5060 Ti 16 GB no doubt.
I own one, and although I won’t touch LLMs with a 10 foot pole, for productivity reasons and gaming it was the better choice to upgrade my 3060 12 GB.
The 5060 Ti 16 GB is also a solid 1440p card as it seems, so you’d have more longevity with it compared to the 5060.
