Should I upgrade my PSU?

I'm looking into upgrading my PC and I'm planning to buy a new Z690 motherboard with a 16 GB 5060 TI and a I9-12900KF, currently I have a 1000 watt power supply, should I go up to a 1200 watt or is the 1000 watt more than capable of handling this upgrade

Even 650 is enough lol

You haven’t actually told us what the model of your PSU is, only the wattage.
Wattage wise, 1000W is more than plenty. It’s overkill. Your system is unlikely to use more than 500W.
Model wise, if it’s a bad one you replace it with a high quality one. If it’s decent or better, keep using it. There aren’t many complete stinkers in the 1kW range but they do exist.

lol well .. if its not 3.1 rated, its worth upgrading to the new standard because of the tighter voltage regulation and monitoring for sure .. and no reason in this world when soending hundreds on a decent gpu to cheap the f out on a psu to save what? 20 bucks? .. people kill me, they really do .. then in the next sentence after they they tell you to cheapskate the f out on something that actually matters to save 20 bucks, they tell you to waste a couple of hundred more on a fancy cpu that will make zero difference in a world where framegen has matured lol ..

I believe they already have the 1000W PSU. Which is massive overkill as it is. So you’re talking $150+ to get a 1200W PSU and go from being able to power their system twice over to three times over.
Unless the 1000W is a trash tier model (and I don’t think OP has told us anything more substantial than just 1000W), the voltage regulation should be more than good enough. ATX 3.0 actually loosens under voltage tolerances to make the transient spike requirements easier.

Well currently I have a 9th gen I7 and a 12 gb 3060 and its not doing too well on newer games and starting to lose a bit of performance as games I currently play get more updates rolling out

If you have a 1000w, you are fine. Unless it’s way past warranty. I run 14900KS/7900XTX overlocked. It pulls 850w from the wall during benchmarking and between 500 and 700 during normal gameplay.

I could see 1000 on the post as I was clicking on it and lol'd

It would make more sense to get a 12600K/12700K, 5070 and MSI B760-P motherboard. Overclocking not really needed with 12-14th generation. Plus you would need a 420mm AIO to handle anything above 300 watt power draw.

1000 watt is still like 250 overkill. Your fine
VoraciousGorak@reddit
Heck, more like 500W overkill.
Mabiewaiting333@reddit
That will be more than fine. Cpu max is 250W, gpu like 300(?) so even with all the othr parts 1000W will be enough
dertechie@reddit
5060 Ti is a sub 200W card.
I keep looking around the post expecting that I’ve missed a reference to like a 5090 since I don’t think a 12900K/5060 Ti will even crack 50% load on a 1000W supply.
Mabiewaiting333@reddit
Yeah i didnt know that, 1000w is just complete overkill at this point
Table-Playful@reddit
600 watt PSU would be fine for those specs
JDMToaster420@reddit
Anything over 800w is realistically too much for most home users. I guess you gain some efficiency but you shouldnt be worried about going from an overkill PSU to a crazy overkill PSU
