My detailer friend says buying interior accessories with damage guarantees is a complete scam?

We got into a massive argument yesterday because I was about to drop serious money on premium interior protection from one of those big name brands and he basically laughed in my face claiming the fine print makes their promises impossible to actually use. He argued that finding companies that offer legitimate forever replacements on their products is pointless because they just write off heel wear or chemical damage as normal tear anyway so you never get the new set approved when you actually need it.
I kind of get his point because how do you even prove the plastic warped from heat and not abuse, but at the same time I plan on keeping this truck for a decade and want some peace of mind knowing I won't have to buy these things three times over.
Have any of you guys actually successfully filed a claim when your heavy boots wore a literal hole through the driver side shield or is he right that these companies are just charging a premium for a promise they will never legally have to keep. kinda feels like insurance where you pay to feel safe but get screwed when you actually need help.

You got into an argument over something that could happen warranty wise that you haven’t even purchased yet? What? Why?

A massive argument. OP must be a fun person.

Deciding to scrape your boots in something for years is the definition of normal wear.

Exactly, and if you're wearing heavy boots that much you should have some HD floor mats, not just carpet.

I think 'premium interior protection' was developed for people just like you LOL

Yep. And dealer installed ‘ceramic coatings’ that are useless and just a 5 year paint warranty.

YTA - you owe your friend an apology.

If you got into a massive argument over that... You have far bigger issues that need attention than what kind of floor mats you're going to buy

Listen to your friend. Those big promise, huge guarantee things are usually a scam. Don’t waste your money

I use weather tech stuff and it's of a quality that I have never had to replace them due to wear and tear.
And I often treat my car like a work truck. (Work in the trades, but need sports car)

Professional detailer of 10 years here, he's correct.

Well... Read the fine print yourself and see what they exclude. In general though, your friend isn't wrong. Ultimately, anything that stops something else from taking damage is a wear item. If you have to buy another set of floor mats or two over the next decade, that's not a big burden. Buy a reputable product, but don't buy just for a guarantee.
