Rooster Home & Hardware to close June 30 after decades in Dallas - Lake Highlands

Sad day for fans of local hardware stores existing. Not sure this is so much being pushed out by Lowe's or Home Depot. The rumors for 2.5 years has been the empty grocery store and business strip being demolished for an apartment complex.

Huh

This sucks. I was going to recommend CDC Surplus in Richardson. Old school, 10mm sockets in a cardboard box tray type of thing. Great place, but I've just realized it has permanently closed. Sucks more

CDC was a true delight and original treasure as well! To see these thoughtfully created oasis’ shutter brings a sadness to my timeline here in Texas.

Must be a retirement? So many people love this store, it had to be making money?

Lucky Dog posted on the official announcement about partnering in a spot in OC and Rooster page replied they basically don't have the energy to start over. So forced retirement?

You'd think, but I know some people who work there. They've never made money from it. My guess is rent on that spot is too high.

On the article Facebook post someone associated with ownership said they tried to find someone to buy it to relocate and haven't had any luck.
There have been rumors for 2+ years that it's getting torn down once leases run out. The only thing that ends up being a positive for the community is if any new build is centered around a new building for HEB/Central Market.

Now that's some interesting news. I was assuming the place would sit empty like every other business I know that closes because rent is too high.
But there's been an empty grocery store in that lot for year and years already.
If they tear down that strip JJ's and White Rock Soap will have to move, too.

There is like 10 total businesses in there. The grocery store HEB had the lease on when they bought the Sunfresh stores. Not sure if they still have that. I've heard the store isn't big enough for them to do anything with.

Can you link this facebook post please?

Or lease wasn't renewed in prep for the entire area being demolished.

We have purchased all of our chicks from Rooster over the past 8 years. And it’s been such a great place to pick up a dog toy or spray paint or unique gift. We will miss this special shop!

Wasn’t the owner one of the Half Pryce Books founders? I haven’t been over there in some time but I think it is same strip mall where Nature’s Plate was for many years and they moved to Denton earlier this year in advance of a possible sale I believe. Too bad. We are luckily we still have Josey Hardware aka Ace nearby.

I also heard it's the HPB people.

That's such a damn shame. That is the closest hardware store to me, and the one I got to literally anytime I need anything hardware or cleaning related! It's so close that I can walk there, and I've loved having it nearby. I'm very sad to see it go
smokybbq90@reddit (OP)
They're having a 25% off everything sale and I just assumed it was a good old fashioned real sale.
codeman77@reddit
I guess I'll have to go down there and see if there's anything I need then! I would have assumed it was just a normal sale as well. This just sucks
this_aint_no_hobby@reddit
That’s a bummer. I’d take my daughter up there whenever I need some random nut or bolt so she can look at the chicks.
Phyrnosoma@reddit
That blows. They’re awesome

Breaks my freaking heart. No one cares for their community like these guys and the feeling goes both ways. Genuinely felt like you’d stepped back in time (in all the right ways) with a helpful and knowledgeable staff that made you feel like a friend.

Could not agree more.

Man, I hate seeing these local spots go.
