It’s actually super interesting and weird musically, which is what I assume u/MildColonialMan (and most of us) are responding to.

The song starts in a typical I-IV-V pop music chord progression, and then “if you threw” kicks off the bridge. So that would be interesting anyway.

But then!! “Party” puts a minor chord where a major should be, which brings some soul.

“Invited” resolves back into a major triad which is a moment of satisfaction after that minor chord dissonance.

And THEN on “knew” they throw a major where a minor was supposed to be.

Cliffhangers and resolution everywhere. I love it.
