Sex Education pop quiz instead of age verification for porn websites

Honestly, it could probably work for keeping particularly young people off the wrong sites. Obviously there's AI and stuff to answer the questions, which is why it needs a 10 second timer on each question. Multiple failed questions block your IP from the website for a day, repeated failures permanently unless you can write an essay about sex. Might also keep the weirdo porn addict adults off the websites too.

The old Leisure Suit Larry games made you answer dated pop culture questions as an age verification to play the game.

Had never heard of this but had fun passing it as a sporcle quiz
A_very_meriman@reddit
Holy shit I'm young. It's confirmed!
konohasaiyajin@reddit
I remember trying to guess the punchline to Reagan jokes and shit as a kid lol
Gotta get that 80% score or you won't be able to see any pixelated boobies!

Look, the more people that know and retain Sex Ed, the better
Wendals87@reddit
Sex Ed here is taught at like 13-14 years old
spoonybard326@reddit
That’s why they should ask the real adult questions and not sex ed stuff.
What does PITI stand for?
What household utility is measured in therms?
Within +- 10%, how many minutes of music fit on a compact disc?
What is the penalty for early withdrawal from a 401(k)?
TheWorstPossibleName@reddit
I am 36 and have no clue what any of those answers are.
CmdrJorgs@reddit
It's a real piti I don't know the answers.
Otto_Pussner@reddit
Lmao I’m almost a decade into being an adult and CDs weren’t a thing before I hit double digits in age
karmapopsicle@reddit
These questions tell me you're an American homeowner likely somewhere in the upper end of middle class.
Did you know only about 54% of American families have any kind of retirement savings account? It's over 80% for households with annual incomes above $100k.
I'm just learning today that other parts of the world bill natural gas in non-standard imperial heat energy units instead of just by volume. My bill is measured in cubic metres.
forestfluff@reddit
So questions anyone could also google? Lmao
CliffFromEarth@reddit
Idk
Gas usage
73 mins?
Extra taxes?
votelikeimhot@reddit
I didn't think the first two were for Americans but then the last one totally is so I just don't know the first2
Dracarys254@reddit
Same in our country, and I think that's the best age for it.
Kids should be learning sex ed during puberty.
AvidCoco@reddit
Even 13-14 is a bit late, especially for girls who may get their first periods much earlier than that and not know what’s happening to them.
pixie_pie@reddit
Germany here. We had, better call it health class, in stages. First stage was in primary (3rd class). What happens during puberty, how the body changes consent, etc. All of it on an a child's level. Then in 5th or 6th at a more in depth level. Part taught of it for the whole class, part girls and boys separated. 13/14 is indeed a bit late and I wouldn't count on every parent to teach their children. The children also shouldn't have to rely on the internet to find out.
AvidCoco@reddit
Yeah tbf we had the same where we learnt about puberty at primary school, probably 9-10 years old and then learned more about safe sex, STI’s etc. at around 14-15. Although that was also too late as I’m pretty sure a few people in that class already had STI’s 😅
I-Use-Artix-BTW@reddit
I live in Texas and I was never given sex ed at school
Wendals87@reddit
So you'd fail the verification as an adult?
I-Use-Artix-BTW@reddit
I know one thing for sure, the answer is usually either A, B, C, or D.
Silver_Variation5608@reddit
And why would porn websites do that, decrease their own audience?? Really
minun73@reddit
Crazier idea: let’s not restrict any porn online and allow parents to parent properly. The rest of us shouldn’t be punished and/or have our privacy invaded because other people are stupid.
Mr_Quackums@reddit
I used to agree with this, but there is legit a ton of danger online, not just porn.
We need an unobtrusive, privacy respecting, age verification system in general, not just for porn.
The best I have seen is hardware verification - anyone can buy an "all ages" network card or SIM card, but you need a valid ID (or a waver signed by a guardian) to buy an "unrestricted" card. You ID is not identified by the hardware and not tied to it in any way simply verified on purchase.

Tax questions instead just in case
NukeL3AR@reddit
One of the biggest issue with minors getting access to porn is that it often is their first exposure to sex and skews their view of sex ed in a way that is very difficult to undo. This idea might not fully stop minors from using those apps, but it would do a better job than the current methods, and it would at least mitigate this issue by ensuring only people who are familiar with proper sex ed (even adults) can have access to porn.
Vreas@reddit
My sex Ed was mostly about STDs. Answering a bunch of questions about that before jacking off would totally kill the mood.

Smash cut to the American father of four screaming 'what do you mean, women can orgasm?!?!'
scottcmu@reddit
The 1980s game Leisure Suit Larry did this.
Sorry-Climate-7982@reddit
Strongly suspect the kids would pass but the adults wouldn't.
72-Heartbreaker@reddit
Great idea...... in a world where good people run the show.
CoderJoe1@reddit
No, the ideas here have to be crazy. Stop making sense!
latemodmail24@reddit
this idea is kinda wild but fr, it could be a decent filter. forcing some basic knowledge before diving into that content might actually help educate instead of just blocking access.
uroborous01@reddit
It should instead be a pop quiz where all the questions are about identifying different sti/std symptoms. And to prevent people from developing disturbing fetishes: the images would omit genitalia. And just show unidentifiable patches of skin that have different stuff going on.
boringdude00@reddit
A sex education quiz for the demographic that can't figure out if it's urine or if pornstars have an organ unknown to science that holds a gallon and a half of mystery liquid?
harborthrowaway7@reddit
that's a wild idea but honestly would probably just make people more determined to get around the system. still, it could add a layer of accountability for sure
erisod@reddit
I like this idea. Even without a timer or ip block (which is problematic) it would force some education.
