TBH i was pretty dissapointed you didn't look up ONCE while being hoisted. I want to see what the osprey looks like from behlow as a hoist is being used. Ya never looked at the Osprey!
Also if these are all Marines why no MARPAT? All wearing different cammies than usual
feralraindrop@reddit
I wonder if the guy was pretty much blown dry by the time he made it to the aircraft?
Lucky-Somewhere-1013@reddit
Are you in Hawaii? Looks very beautiful.
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Yes my friend! This was in Kaneohe Bay!
ashes_to_fire@reddit
Did you see the great white shark fin right behind you?
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
The downward from the osprey made it a bit hard to see lol
ashes_to_fire@reddit
What aircraft will you eventually fly? Which action camera did you use to film? Did you use a mouth mount for the action camera or a head mount? Which post editing software did you use. TIA
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
GoPro on the front of a helmet, Vegas pro 22 software. I’ve been aircrew and flying for 15 and a half years, this was a refresher for me but it was obviously a special one because we don’t get to be hoisted out of the ocean from a MV-22 often. I don’t want to say what I fly exactly because people pick it apart and ruin opsec lol
roxbox531@reddit
Did the jet ski just drop you off?
ThePrussianGrippe@reddit
At least the training’s dope. Looks like a fun day!
ashes_to_fire@reddit
Thanks for the info! I have a DJI Osmo action. They are more reliable compared to GoPro. But ymmv
Knook7@reddit
Where in the video? I can't find it
Meth_Useler@reddit
this is a tiger shark breeding ground
Sylvas808@reddit
Kaneohe bay is a Hammerhead shark breeding ground
TheBlacktom@reddit
The US is not a good place to live for a couple reasons, but these kinds of stunts definitely make a lot of countries envious of a proper military.
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Not here to talk politics. But I had fun
TheBlacktom@reddit
I'm not talking about politics either.
Kaladin3104@reddit
Be there tomorrow! Anything you’d recommend to do as a civilian on the island?
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
What are you into? Hiking? Or food? Orrr??
Kaladin3104@reddit
All of the above. Wildlife, museums, want to drive around the island one day. I’m there for 2 weeks.
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
You’re on just Oahu for 2 weeks??
Kaladin3104@reddit
Uhhhh… yes. Its my little sisters college graduation. Family got a place to stay on Oahu. 🤷🏻♂️
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Ahhh, well I’ll shoot you a DM tomorrow for some good fun and hikes and food. To tired at the moment to type it all out, I gotta go to bed dang it! lol. but you’ll have a great time here!
architype@reddit
I wonder if it was your Osprey the other day. I heard hovering and had no idea what the marines were doing. :)
ButtersWorth124@reddit
Was curious why I was seeing so many on flight radar today! Super rad
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
This was actually like 3 weeks ago ish.
LuigiVampa_@reddit
I could almost see #13 of the Klipper course in the distance. My favorite bay.
Strontiumdogs1@reddit
Is this the British army medic from the parachute video. He went to an island to help treat a Hente virus patient?
Techhead7890@reddit
Nah, Brits don't use V-22, that's solely American. He'll catch the regular ferry off the island once he's done treating the patient -- and with how long that disease can stay latent, that'll probably wrap up in like a month or two.
AlexLuna9322@reddit
That’s basically the POV for the fries leaving the fryer!
Nice
Techhead7890@reddit
Lmao that's hilarious. I wonder if anyone has ever actually re-enacted that (with cold oil in the fryer) for a training video or something.
randytc18@reddit
I bet that is tough to swim in that wash. Cool video!
SnazzyStooge@reddit
That wash is no joke, it’ll seriously toss you if you aren’t careful.
iBlockMods-bot@reddit
Tell me more..
SnazzyStooge@reddit
Flew a bit too close to a -22 doing rappelling drills. I got pushed around, and I was in an airplane. The guys underneath the Osprey did NOT look like they were having a good time.
I did water survival training with an H-60, and that wash alone was hard enough to swim against. Then again, maybe that’s why the -22 was so high up, I think my -60 was at a 100’ hover instead of 200’.
iBlockMods-bot@reddit
That sounds very naughty. Was it all intentional?
SnazzyStooge@reddit
Sort of. Tower had them hovering right off the side of the runway, then cleared me for a touch and go. I don’t think any of us thought we’d get as close as we did.
iBlockMods-bot@reddit
Even reading about it my lips are quivering! I'd have been a wet mess afterwards..
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
That downwash was the worse part of the whole thing, you’re right, swimming against it sucks! lol
PreparationHot980@reddit
How does the basket remain properly oriented and doesn’t spin like crazy or anything?
BladeEater23@reddit
Kaneohe bay! I see you.
fussinghell@reddit
Amazing footage but what happens in the event of an engine failure to that Osprey
mixblast@reddit
There is actually a shaft that goes along the wings and can drive both rotors from a single engine.
RoooDog@reddit
You go back in the water
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Truest statement…
marCOOLEYa@reddit
Kbay?
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Kbay indeed!
muck2@reddit
Nice!
Ha, I love the "remain seated" inscription. Who would want to stand up in that thing.
ABoutDeSouffle@reddit
Me. You can hold onto the overhead structure, and I would have to fight myself to not stand up and look around and down. I am dumb this way :)
Mr_j93@reddit
You laugh but the reason it’s there is probably because someone did it!
CaptureLag@reddit
“Remain seated” sounds obvious until you remember somebody probably tried to stand up mid ocean sky elevator.
muck2@reddit
"Look, mom! No hands!"
Mekroval@reddit
Castun@reddit
"Honey, I've been dead for years, remember?"
ImYourHumbleNarrator@reddit
i would have preferred a harness to the sign personally
TheBlacktom@reddit
I would add a "Hang in there" cat picture and some encouraging text, like "We got you", "Enjoy the view" or "Sorry for the loud noise"
PendragonDaGreat@reddit
That's what I was thinking. You'd need a razor blade to remove my butt from the floor until I was in the plane.
chocorange@reddit
Sooner or later someone is going to stand up to get their book out of the overhead locker.
welguisz@reddit
Please be careful when opening the overhead bins because objects may have shifted.
DasMo19@reddit
Neat!
TheOzarkWizard@reddit
200ft hoist is wild
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
I agree, but man the downwash was strong enough at 200 feet up. If it was 100 feet, idk that we would have been able to swim to the basket! It would have blown us away!
Live-Pea4081@reddit
Wait are you the medic?
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Nope, I’m aircrew on a completely different plane, just practicing being rescued from a water landing
SimkinCA@reddit
Lake?
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
No, Kaneohe Bay
MyDespatcherDyKabel@reddit
Excellent POV
here4daratio@reddit
Nah dawg that’s def a GOV
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
I hate you… take my upvote….
MyDespatcherDyKabel@reddit
What’s your Instagram profile? Would love to see more of these
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
I can’t even recall the last time I posted on instagram, my instagram is pretty blank, sorry!
MyDespatcherDyKabel@reddit
Never mind… Beautiful stuff you’ve captured , that too in super HD, kudos
CharAznableLoNZ@reddit
Thought all the guys had rubber duck floaty rings for a second, had to back up and check.
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Close enough lol
Novel_Manner4483@reddit
Amazing machine.
Fl_Funky_Jam@reddit
Anytime I see hoist videos I always get anxious and think of that poor woman spinning at 29000rpm+ when getting rescued in the wilderness 🤣
OCFlier@reddit
That lift was very slow. I know the hoist is capable of going much faster
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Hard to tell in the video, but the basket was swaying a lot, so they slow the hoist the basket got closer to the aircraft until the basket is more stabilized.
dsaysso@reddit
curious theres no safety latch for them to hook into? with all that swaying i thought osha might get nervous. :)
OCFlier@reddit
That’s true about slowing at the top of the lift. The hoist can run at over 200 ft/min and looking at the video timing, it’s pretty close to that.
I worked on building these hoists, including this one for the V22 and I’ve operated and been lifted many times. It’s a wild ride 😁
DaHozer@reddit
What years were you working on these? We might have worked together.
PigSlam@reddit
the lift starts roughly 20 seconds in, and gets to full height at the halfway point. If the lift is 200ft as OP said, then that's faster than 200ft/min.
CrapMaster32@reddit
what happened to put you in this situation
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Training
CrapMaster32@reddit
training for what
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
For aircrew to be rescued in case they go down in water. Aka, a small part of water survival training for us aircrew.
WeeblsLikePie@reddit
a great deal more hardcore than what we do in offshore wind. We get dunked in a pool and hoisted out via a winch on the ceiling.
devoduder@reddit
ARMY TRAINING SIR!
BuddahSack@reddit
That's the fact, Jack!
C-57D@reddit
Where's your drill sergeant, men?
BuddahSack@reddit
Sgt. Hulka... he's our big toe haha
devoduder@reddit
BLOWN UP SIR!
ScarHand69@reddit
What was the plane full of a bunch of PFCs wearing their Mae-wests?
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
This was a training, not exercise, but opportunity. The marines flying the osprey wanted bodies, MOS/AFSC didn’t matter. Simply volunteer and throw on the life jacket and you get hoisted!
ImNotSkankHunt42@reddit
Do they have to be warm?
Castun@reddit
Helps if you want to keep your crayons softer.
devoduder@reddit
I loved those “opportunities” in the military, did some cool shit that way.
U2ElectricBoogaloo@reddit
Im going to guess training mission.
spoiled__princess@reddit
Is that a skidoo running off? How will it get back home?
DiscoDiscoB00mB00m@reddit
I couldn’t stop thinking about the grandma who went on the gravitron airlift in az.
start3ch@reddit
That is such a surreal video! Climb into a basket and get hoisted up into the sky, by what looks like a plane, except for the fact that it’s hovering in place.
Also osprey’s are way bigger than I expected inside!
idk_mybff_josie@reddit
Hey I can see my house from here, I was wondering what all the Ospreys are doing in Hawaii
DesertRunnerX@reddit
Great video and what a badass machine… love the sound.
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
I was already dead enough as it is, but yes, I loved this sound!
Lopsided_Quarter_931@reddit
sees Osprey
"Guys i think i'm good here, water isn't too cold anyway"
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
🤣🤣
JasonIsFishing@reddit
As a former SERE instructor I never got tired of the fun of getting hoisted (except via the forest penetrator).
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
YOU are the ones who organized this whole thing to get me into the basket. So thank you!
JasonIsFishing@reddit
Thanks! It was right? Never got old for me in 15 years. Everyone talks about the miserable parts of SERE, but there’s a lot of fun parts just like this.
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
As aircrew, I honestly freaking loved my initial back in washington, as well as all my refreshers (I’m an outdoorsy person). Even my extra class that I took as aircrew, which I shall not mention here lol
JasonIsFishing@reddit
SV80 is a bunch of fun. Camping trip that we benefit from. I taught it my first 4 years. As for SV-91….
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
My extra back then was SV-93… 🤣
JasonIsFishing@reddit
“Advanced beating”
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
2011, and yes that was the name, and that is what I got 🤣
JasonIsFishing@reddit
It’s a good thing. Some jobs have special resistance needs. I often didn’t know what my student’s job was, especially with civilians. If folks are entitled to sensitive things they are entitled to sensitive training as you know!
terrainflight@reddit
You’d pick the strop over the penetrator? I’ve never rode the penetrator, but the strop sucks so hard.
JasonIsFishing@reddit
Penetrator has a nylon/non padded strap, but you have to straddle the solid steel seat on your nuts. The big advantage is that it can hoist 3 people, and in combat it’s less time on station which is obvious priority.
GC_Aus_Brad@reddit
The giant fan above you would dry you off fast lol
brettles84@reddit
firstly, that is cool as fuck.
second, being airlifted from any heli would be cool as fuck, but from an osprey? hella cool as fuck.
thirdly, my only sadness is that if it were me i really would looked up at least once for that extra cool as fuck shot
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
We thought the same thing, but in the moment, after swimming against that crazy downwash, trust me, you get lost in the sauce lol
brettles84@reddit
i do not doubt you in the least, just jealous 😄
A_Coin_Toss_Friendo@reddit
How many tickets to ride this ride?
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
At least 7 🤣
Rutabaga258@reddit
Gives me Deep Blue Sea vibes
Shockwave2309@reddit
Ewww imagine how sticky wet the clothes are after that :c
Could never do that
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Hard to tell, but I hope you’re being sarcastic…
Shockwave2309@reddit
Nope
I really despise wet clothes that just stick to the skin
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Shockwave2309@reddit
Just like all the other close to 9 billion people who lived on this world so far...
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
I’m just giving you a hard time mate. I love the outdoors, wet clothes don’t bother me, so I’m just giving you a rough time as bro’s do lol
Shockwave2309@reddit
I hate having hard ons while at work :c
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Tell your boss you need a smoke break, then get in your vehicle and drive to the badlands of South Dakota. They’ll understand…
Shockwave2309@reddit
That would be a 11.350km drive... not sure if I get petrol in the pacific tho...
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
You’ll make it work, I believe in you 🤣
dawtips@reddit
Dude you sat there like a champ
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Sat like a champ, giggled like a 3 year old on Christmas. It was so much fun lol
locust911@reddit
In honor of the US president, this team shall henceforth be named "Cradle Snatchers"
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
This was not meant to be political…
JeanutPellySam@reddit
Talk about a bucket list opportunity..
Jettyboy72@reddit
TIL the Osprey is able to hoist. Not sure why I never thought it had that capability
Jukecrim7@reddit
It also has a retractable gun
eniretakia@reddit
Incredibly cool, but also, I’m so glad it’s you and not me.
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
That’s fair, but I had a freaking blast! Can’t tell from the audio, but I was giggling like a 3 year old on their birthday as I was being hoisted up!
VanillaTortilla@reddit
Everything seems pretty normal, and then the tailboom appears in the top of the frame. Super crazy to see.
Imgjim@reddit
Very cool, Oahu?
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Kaneohe Bay herself!
Imgjim@reddit
Figured! I was in makaha December to mid January and saw a ton of ospreys around, as well as a bunch of jump training. Good place to end up in the water since it's almost always 76*!
rovingtravler@reddit
Great video! That is a high pickup. We did 75 ft normally. 100 to 150ft if the waves were bad so the swimmer and isolated person did not have to fight the rotor wash as much.
Have you done hoist ops with any other aircraft? How is the downwash compared to others, H-60, H-53...
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Me personally, this is the first time I’ve done hoist ops in like 15 years. The last time I got hoisted was in 2011 being hoisted like 20-30 feet into a Huey back in 2011. So this was absolutely amazing to me!
therealcbb@reddit
Wow the size of the inside is impressive with everyone loaded up
akacarguy@reddit
Dang. There barely looks to be any prop/rotor wash. Looks like a good time.
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
The video is deceiving, this was the strongest rotor wash I’ve ever swam against! The osprey downwash is no joke!
biomechaniod@reddit
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing that. Good luck out there!
OkMarsupial3149@reddit
Does it hurt when yall swing your massive balls into the basket?
100k cash and a new Z06 with Margot Robbie ready to do sinful things to me sitting in the passenger seat wouldn’t get me in that basket.
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
Haha, you gotta think about it like, if you DONT get your massive balls into the basket, then Margot Robbie will never know your name lol
drossmaster4@reddit
“Oh shit there was a jetski right there?! Should have just let them rescue me”
mrmcbeefy777@reddit
I know K-Bay when I see it. Cheers from a sailor in Pearl
Hobear@reddit
So like if I just go swim and get in trouble they will just pick me up or I should go swim into base territory? Asking for a friend.
TayloidPogo92@reddit (OP)
If an osprey needs to pick you up for real, you better be in some serious trouble lol.
devoduder@reddit
That’s a bad ass E Ticket ride. I did something similar once getting hoisted into a Pave Low, but that was just from land and not an Osprey.
