What car should I get?

I live in Canada. I live in a big city, I am a renter, I am looking to buy (or rent) a hybrid or a plug in hybrid. I drive to work and it’s 6km from my home, on streets no highway (but some highway on the weekends).
I am looking at the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid and the Kia Niro Hybrid or plug in (but which model???).
I love that the Subaru I don’t have anything to choose except the color, it’s only the car with the more options. With the Niro I would have choices to make.
Also, should I rent or buy? I’m not a car person, please help!
I want something reliable, I hate going to the garage. Should I rent because the hybrid technology is new? Or buy because in the long run it saves money?
So: which car and buying or renting? Or should I be looking at totally something else?

Or a Prius! That is an excellent choice.

Ok, so nobody wants me to buy the crosstrek or the Niro 😆
I wanted a bigger car than the Prius, we are a family, would be a little bit more convenient.

I have a ‘26 Toyota bZ EV. And I do recommend it. But you don’t have a place to charge. The bZ has plenty of room for a family. Look for a rental house and your problems would be solved.

Since you are in a big city and value reliability, keep an eye out for the Lynk & Co 01.

In Canada. Not available sadly.

You have a place to plug in to charge it?

No, but there are charging stations near our appartment and I could plug it at a charging station at work.

That seems like a waste of time and money. Just get a hybrid

Ok. So one question down. Which hybrid and do I rent or buy.

Toyota Camry all day

No. I don’t want a sedan. My choices were the Subaru crosstrek or the Kia Niro.

Neither. Both are awful choices. If you want a sub compact the Corolla Cross. Assuming you have no desire to purchase a house in the near future and renting is going to be the choice for the next 5-7 years depending on your financing choices.
