Kalitta or Breeze?

I have CJOs at both. I know they each have their good and bad. I would have to commute for Breeze which I’ve heard is not great. My career goal is to get to a legacy. Any advice is appreciated.

I think that Kalitta would be a more stable long term option in case you don't get called by a legacy very quickly. If you're OK with being gone for 16 days at a time, its a no brainer to me.
Hungrypilot@reddit
I spent many years at K4 before moving on. Happy to chat with you and answer questions!

Kalitta is probably the better job if you’d have to commute for Breeze, Kalitta’s schedule notwithstanding. Better pay, WAY better retirement, no commute, and heavy jet experience.
CrossBamboAtTen@reddit
FWIW every ex Kalitta pilot I’ve flown with says it sucked.
Formal_Syrup_4596@reddit
Former k4 guy here, Kalitta was awesome. Some of the best crews I’ve flown with, airplanes are well maintained (no AOGs in 1700 hours there) the destinations are awesome. Does the schedule suck? 14-16 days? Yeah kinda, but you’re only flying 7-8 of those days anyways at most. If someone’s a slam clicker, they’d hate it, but if you like getting out and seeing the world you can’t beat it.

Not having a contract and union will do that to you. Perma abuse by company. But breeze long term if they manage to continue to grow and offer a good product I can see them doing really well.

Breeze only exists to get bought.
TouristWilling1788@reddit
Breeze is great if you live in a junior base and have a family. If not I would stay away, it’s not great for junior FOs and the work rules are non existent. I’ve been here for five years now and personally really like it but that’s also because I’m senior enough with enough pull with management to do essentially anything I want
Eastern_Fix_2944@reddit
“Enough pull with management” this is a massive problem
mrinformal@reddit
I have a Breeze guy in class with me at Kalitta. He's happy to be here.
BigBlackHungGuy@reddit
I vote Kalitta if you like adventure. I knew the past chief pilot and he told me some of the experiences he had. Including deliveries to Afghanistan during the war. They have government contracts and do some..things.

Don’t go to breeze, good luck.

I mean there was the no snacks thing in the other thread, but that bad?
Aviationer065@reddit
It’s not about snacks. It’s about what management thinks of us and how they treat us. We have industry low qol and industry low pay. My money would be F9 gets a contract before us.
DFWmovingwalkway@reddit
Aye, sorry to hear that. May your apps get emails inviting you to interview soon.
YamComprehensive7186@reddit
Kalitta, unless your a family man, in that case Breeze and move to base.
ABobLoblawLawBlogger@reddit
I haven't experienced Kalitta but I've jumpseated on Atlas Air 4 times. If I had to do my path to the airlines differently, I think I'd do the ACMI route.
SnazzyStooge@reddit
747s or 777s at Kalitta? If 777s, absolutely. If 747s, maybe.
Spare_Prop@reddit (OP)
Not sure yet, 777 would certainly be my preference though.
SnazzyStooge@reddit
I can’t say which would be better for eventually going to the majors, as I’ve personally been unsuccessful. The 74 has been fun, though I wish I had a more relevant type rating once hitting the job market again.
Upgrade at Kalitta is generally pretty fast, 2-4 years, so shouldn’t be too hard to grab some TPIC soon. And the hours are pretty good, too, you can expect 50-100 hours per month, not bad when you consider it’s all wide body turbine time.
CMDR_Winrar@reddit
Breeze is a much faster upgrade. If you can move, go there if your goal is a legacy. Don't commute.
flythearc@reddit
My friends at Breeze were happy to leave. I don’t have any personal experience with them.
Kalitta will be long periods of time away from home, you’ll work hard, sleep schedules will wreck you at times. But you’ll have *way* cooler experiences. I vote Kalitta
SkyhawkPilot@reddit
Are you getting any TPIC 121 time now?
Spare_Prop@reddit (OP)
No, I lost my 135 job recently, company sold the plane. I have 30TPIC hrs.
SkyhawkPilot@reddit
Gotcha. Either one seems like a good choice to get 121 time, but I’ll let pilots with more expertise at those carriers tell you the pros and cons. Looks like some good insights already.
FlowerGeneral2576@reddit
These are two very different lifestyles you’re weighing. ACMI isn’t for everybody. It’s a lot of nights away from home in a row every month, but it can be fun flying and seeing the world. With Breeze, I have heard it really sucks as a commuter, but it’s more normal flying if that’s what you seek. It’s worth thinking about the stability of the two carriers too.
Spare_Prop@reddit (OP)
Both lifestyles would be fairly new to me, I’ve been gone for 16 days before at my previous job so I know what that’s like at least. Thank you for your input.
FlowerGeneral2576@reddit
Yeah if that kind of schedule is good for you, kalitta can be really fun. It’s nice never having to worry about commuting and getting to live wherever I want.
latedescent@reddit
Kalitta heavy time is valuable if you were ever considering cargo. Also some really fun flying if you care about that. Breeze is probably the more traditional route to legacy. Either one should work. Add up your commute days and total days gone for both and go from there.
