Bullpups? Yea or nay?

I am actually a fan of bullpups when they are done right.
The AUG and the Tavor being good examples...
Love to hear others thoughts.

They're great whenever I jump out of my little bird helicopter I don't have, or my Stryker I don't have, or my police car I don't have. Totally justifies more money, worse accuracy, worse ergonomics, less modularity, fewer accessories, less industry support, no ambidextrousness in most cases.... and the triggers! What are we talking about? Gun toys for people with money? Or poor guy living in rural Oklahoma that doesn't want coyotes attacking his Great Pyrenees/Belgian Malinois while he's walking in the woods hunting mushrooms? If it's the rich guy, they're cool. If you're talking poor mushroom-dog man, buy a cheap AR.

Super nifty, but wholly impractical and kinda gimmicky, IMO.

Change a magazine quickly, without moving your control hand.....

I can switch mags in each of mine without coming off target.

This is not exactly new technology... the Austrian Army fielded the Steyr in the late 70s.

Never implied it was new technology. Just looking for others opinions on an existing platform that I felt doesn't get much discussion.

The hardest part of the Manual of Arms for a Bullpup is much tge same for a submachine gun - it's REAL easy to sweep someone with the muzzle, if you're not accustomed to it.
TheBullpupGuy@reddit
Big time yay. If you cant shoot a gun because the trigger isnt perfect than you are a lowsey shot.
Excellent_Mall8819@reddit
True😀
OneManGang2001@reddit
Most are know for having lousy triggers
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
I mean they're not great, but people act like they're unusable.
If you can't shoot without your $300 Geissele trigger you're just a lousy shot.
PdoffAmericanPatriot@reddit (OP)
I have heard that, I've not experienced it myself as of yet. Both examples I have had the pleasure of using weren't bad other than increased trigger travel, and even that wasn't horrible.
National-Bench5602@reddit
I really like my Aug and X95, wouldn't let either go. Find it hard to choose between the two.
Dragon464@reddit
I have a Gen 1 Tavor and an AUG. The Steyr is easier to clean, but the Tavor is more accurate off tge bench.
National-Bench5602@reddit
Yes, the Tavor is only slightly easier to thoroughly clean than a Ruger Mk 1-3. But they are also alike in the accuracy department. 👌
ShotgunEd1897@reddit
AUG is just about the only bullpup that's aesthetically pleasing.
MArkansas-254@reddit
I fall in the meh camp. One that's well done is neat. Most of them aren't that. 🤷♂️

I love me hellion (after getting trigger work done)
VanillaIce315@reddit
Huge fan!
Tavor X95, Tavor SAR 7, HS Produkt VHS-2/Hellion, Steyr Aug, FN P90 are all fantastic fucking firearms, with tons of military/police use (other than the Tavor 7, which is still made with the same pedigree as any other IWI firearm).
Would love to eventually get an Aug with the DMR barrel eventually.

I have a Ks7 that I really was too old and spine isn’t the greatest. Boy it’s accurate with pop up magpuls even. Could hit 75 yard targets with slugs. The mini shells are cool. I had trouble with them loading and taking them out. Hard to re load them much
Medium_Imagination67@reddit
Recently picked up a 16" Hellion, my first bullpup, and really like it.
Beebjank@reddit
Best bullpup

Hellion is fucking awesome

At the time in the late 1970s-90s they made a lot of sense! The standard for rifle was at least 16 inches so if you want to make that more compact so you can have troops inside armored vehicles or CQB it makes sense to design a bullpup. In today’s era (mid 2000s onwards) with the rise of barrels less than 14.5 they make less sense
KittehKittehKat@reddit
Teefies go brrrrrrttttt.
Never been a fan.
-UserOfNames@reddit
Own a Tavor - got it as a SHTF gun
Pros: built like a tank, highly maneuverable length, eats everything, easy to clean, trigger is decent, lot of firepower in a compact package.
Cons: heavy as shit, quite gassy when suppressed even dialed back, ammo cost adds up fast.
FWIW, I don’t find myself grabbing it for range trips very often - couldn’t tell you the last time I shot it.

Love my ps90.

Have a Keltec KS7, tons of fun , chose it cause I’m a lefty and it’s bottom eject

Thank you sir , cycles anything I put in it!

I’ve just never have been curious enough about them to spend any money. Some are truly star wars level design.

I'm lucky enough to have a facility near where I live that has all kinds of interesting firearms you can rent for fairly cheap, and use on their range. Everything from antiques to full auto.
makinupnames@reddit
Cool idea with a lot of upsides but enough downsides to make it ultimately unpopular.
UltramanOrigin@reddit
I like them
