Bought Woolroom duvets a few years ago from amazon very happy with them
papercut2008uk@reddit
If you want something that your going to actually feel warm in, get a feather/down duvet. I really regret getting rid of my old one.
The one I have now, I have to put blankets on top because it's not that warm, I use it in summer it's that bad, 13 tog as well.
The 13 tog feather one I used to have was significantly warmer.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
what do you have now?
doalittledance_@reddit
I’m personally a fan of wool and sizing up! So, king size duvet for a double bed, superking on a king bed etc. hubs and I used to bicker constantly about the other stealing all the duvet, sized up and we’ve not had issues since!
Plus it looks better on the bed imo, you get that really full, heavy drape with an oversized duvet. It’s generally why the stylised images from bed linen retailers always look so cosy, cause they use oversized bedsheets! We looked at doing two singles but I like my home to look a certain way and to keep things neat and aesthetically pleasing to me. Probably unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but it makes me happy.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
you sound like my partner! needs everything to look neat
Westsidepipeway@reddit
I have silk. It was expensive but worth it.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
where did you buy it from?
NoEntertainer3191@reddit
Floks British Wool duvet. Its made in Yorkshire and we felt wool was more ethical than down.
It is also cooling and good for all weather and no creepy down feathers coming out.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
Can you feel the weight? I’m worried i won’t be able to. I need something heavy to fall asleep
CakeCatsClay@reddit
Then wool is the way to go. I have one from Woolroom and love it. It's like a weighted blanket. I hate the down duvets at my parents' when I go visit because I feel like I'm trapped in a cloud. 🤣
NA-31@reddit (OP)
literally sleeping on a cloud!
NoEntertainer3191@reddit
I think so, its meant to be heavier than down. They do a 30 dayfree trial.
https://floks.co.uk/pages/30-night-guarantee?srsltid=AfmBOoq8OA5U6j53-sLzYrcs3tjRWWWEzDuGuj1qpqhGtUqfQpiKttMF
MrBoggles123@reddit
We have feather & down.
We got separate duvets - king size bed with a double duvet each. We're not small people and I like to burrito whereas MrsB likes to fling the duvet off in the middle of the night. We've got so much better sleep since doing that.
Tough-Leopard-8807@reddit
How do you make the bed look 'made' by doing this? Do you buy the same duvet covers? I have never seen it.. but i do love the idea!
NA-31@reddit (OP)
This was my worry too 😂 flipping mod removed my post so had to edit it hahaha. I’m worried bed won’t look neat
Suspicious_Banana255@reddit
Do many people see your bed that you're worried about it looking neat? Seriously though, we have separate duvets, white cover on both, we fold them to the bottom of the bed to let it air out and think they look neat.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
OH has OCD
Isgortio@reddit
Put a decorative blanket over them.
batteryforlife@reddit
Literally what a bedspread is for.
Able-Necessary2956@reddit
I would never worry about the bed looking ‘made’, tbh it’s usually crumpled til I get back in it. Not making the bed is good to reduce the prevalence of dust mites, as it gets an airing.
Commercial-Joke-5597@reddit
This is very good intel and I will happily pull this information out at a later date. Thank you.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
I might have to use this one too for when I've not made the bed!
Baynonymous@reddit
Same energy as 'I had to eat the whole pack of biscuits otherwise they'd have gone stale'
Sausagekins@reddit
A lot of other countries don’t do large duvets like you do here. Sweden for example normally have separate single duvets each, and a standard double bed is two single beds in a large frame. So when making the bed most people either fold it in half lengthwise, or tuck it into the sides :). Another little funny fact is that duvet covers also have little holes at the top to pull the duvet through, very easy! If I had two double duvets on the bed I’d either fold lengthwise or maybe on top and then fold the top down, but could end up quite bulky.
Efficient_Chic714@reddit
I used to do two duvets and I would do a plain cover which would go underneath and a pretty one that would go on top. The plain would be a slightly darker colour than my flat sheet
ThginkAccbeR@reddit
Our bed is made when we change the linen. At that point, each duvet is folded upon itself the long way. During the winter, we also each have our own blanket to go with our duvets.
Our duvet covers do not match at all. I like flower girly things and my partner likes blue.
twogalsinatrenchcoat@reddit
Plain duvet covers and a pretty bedspread on top. Or yeah, just commit to airing the bed!
Decard_Pain@reddit
It's not that hard, I do the same.
jjgill27@reddit
They do it a lot in continental Europe. It’s a really good idea.
MrBoggles123@reddit
We tend to get the same or complementary covers.
I usually fold the duvet in half lengthways and put them side by side on the bed or leave the open and put them on top of each other.
a_peanut@reddit
Yes we've done the same and will never go back. Two doubles means I can burrito when I'm sleeping and the other half can have their lightweight duvet. But if we want to cuddle, there's plenty room for both of us under one duvet.
MillyMcMophead@reddit
We've got a Hungarian goose down duvet which is gorgeous, no smell and no spikey bits.
BastardsCryinInnit@reddit
Same! More pricey but worth the investment.
MillyMcMophead@reddit
Hell yes!
Minute_University_98@reddit
An Hungarian goose !.
(Frasier)
YragNitram1956@reddit
Yes.
DangerousDisplay7664@reddit
Used down previously. Hated the quills sticking in me all the time. Currently have wool. It’s great whatever the season! Only trouble is it can’t be washed so you need to be careful!
AutomaticInitiative@reddit
Soak it in the bath with some fairy and lukewarm water, swish it around gently. Rinse it with clean water in the same way. Roll it and squish to get the water out, lay flat to dry.
Source: knitter.
cardamom-me@reddit
Fellow knitter here, you've just blown my mind.
I would never, ever have used fairy liquid on wool, that just seems incredibly harsh seeing as it's meant to dissolve fat. So what does it do to the lanolin in the wool? I only ever use wool detergent.
However I have no doubt that it works, seeing as that's what you do! You'd never do it again if you ruined a knit that way :)
NA-31@reddit (OP)
Where did you buy yours from?
TomBz87@reddit
We have an alpaca wool one from Devon Duvets. They're hand made and ethically sourced. I don't wear nearly as much anymore at night, they're fantastic.
https://www.devonduvets.com/wool-duvets
LochNessMother@reddit
My wool one is very happy to go into the washing machine. Can’t put it in the dryer, but it doesn’t hold water so it dries quickly.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
Where did you buy it from
unprofessional_widow@reddit
They can be washed, and mine has never stick quills into me.
EnoughRadish@reddit
I recently got a wool one from Woolroom and I LOVE it. I’m a big fan of wool in general though. This wool duvet is really high quality and I can tell it will last. I got their medium one and it’ll last me year round.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
Thank you! How many togs did you get?
CorinaPhoto@reddit
Also got a wool one (with cotton cover) from Woolroom. We got the 3 in 1 deluxe which is one 2.5 tog and one 7-10 tog that clip together to make a very warm one in winter, but can also be used separately as just the medium and light options. There's no time of year where we need to use anything else! We are so happy with it.
EnoughRadish@reddit
The Woolroom just measure in light, medium, or warm. I got their medium which they say is equivalent to 7.5-10 tog.
Princes_Slayer@reddit
Separate duvets. Double or bigger, not singles. Get same duvet cover sets on them and fold each in half like they do in other European countries
Screaming_lambs@reddit
At the moment I'm using wool duvet, mattress topper/protector and wool pillow. It's absolutely the best combination I've had in the past few years. I'd say 95% less sweaty since there's no polyester. 100% cotton sheets and duvet cover too
SpaTowner@reddit
We have a Wool duvet from Devon Duvets. Specifically we have their split duvet https://www.devonduvets.com/split-duvet-wool-starter-set I, who live a weighty duvet, have the Medium side and my partner, who runs hot, has the lightweight side.
I’m much happier with it than I was with a goose down duvet. If you get the split option, the difference in heft of the two sides makes it pretty unwieldy to put in a duvet cover, at super king size at least. Our duvet covers had ties in the inside corners, so I added loops of tape to the duvet corners to tie them to, which helps keep the corners situated and reduces the flailing required in changing the covers!
FrankesteinsLog313@reddit
Feather and down
Even_Happier@reddit
2 duvets is known as Swedish sleeping. An absolute must if you’re a lady of a certain age and need to get the duvet off/get a leg out without disturbing your partner.
piggies1066@reddit
My partner and I when we get our new bed will be getting a double each as they like theirs much thicker and warmer than I do. They also like to swaddle up like they're a burrito and steal it.
Using one each often referred to as the "Scandinavian Sleep Method" but is pretty common in many countries.
Can't comment on materials sorry!
VeganHaggisLover@reddit
I have a vegan down one, it’s made from recycled plastic bottles. It’s fab and makes that fun crinkly sound that regular down duvets make.
Lollypop1305@reddit
You can get duvets that are half and half and they have been a lifesaver for us! I’m Scottish and like being cool in bed and my husband is South African and likes being warm 🤣
ac0rn5@reddit
Where did you get yours from?
I've been trying to find one, preferably natural fibres of some sort.
BraveLordWilloughby@reddit
Not alexactly.whst you're asking, but the ultimate heat booster is a proper thick and scratchy wool blanket over your duvet.
doegrey@reddit
Ultimate heat booster is a fleece tucked around you under the duvet (single is fine).
You’ll be roasting in 5 minutes.
QuantitySharp2662@reddit
Topsheet made a major difference to heat insulation for me. I always figured they were to be the top sheet on a made bed, or to be used as an unfitted sheet on a mattress.
Colour me surprised when it turns out they're the top sheet for the sleeper, between them and their bed covers/duvet etc.
If need be I'll have my top sheet under my thin duvet, with a thick blanket over the top of them.
But even the topsheet and blanket combo are roasty toasty.
BraveLordWilloughby@reddit
For when I'm in my van, I have an Alpaca wool poncho I purchased about 15 years ago. On any night that's just a bit nippy, put that on under my blanket and I'm roasting.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
I never knew this existed. Thank you!
RedWife77@reddit
Yes - we sleep under a king size 4.5 tog down duvet year round, with one or more lambswool blankets over my side when it’s cold.
ThginkAccbeR@reddit
We have separate duvets, a double one each. I cannot remember for the life of me what they are filled with! I would go look but my partner is already asleep!
Decard_Pain@reddit
Feather and down.
Papervolcano@reddit
I have wool (baavet rather than woolroom) and love it. I run hot while my partner runs cold, and it suits both of us throughout the year. I find with down duvets I just get hotter and hotter, whereas with wool the temperature feels a bit more balanced.
TSC-99@reddit
Nothing with feathers
BastardsCryinInnit@reddit
2 doubles, not singles!
I like to rock a heavy toggage in winter, and i just love it to be down. I love the crunchy sound it makes, you feel proper cocooned. For me they just feel way more 'Ahhhh.....'
For me summer one, last year i acutally bought a bamboo duvet. I didnt have any intention to, i just saw it and thought "well i like bamboo..." and that was that. Very lightweight and soft, and last year i didnt complain once about being too hot to sleep at night.
AdaTwoToes@reddit
Bamboo, ours is from Panda, best duvet we’ve ever had
rubbish_orb@reddit
I got a wool one from Dunelm 4 years ago and love it. It's thin but heavy, warm in the winter and not completely insane in the summer. It's the same as the day I got it too, no weird bunching or lumps.
I was actually looking at buying the exact same one for when I move in with my girlfriend soon because she also loves it.
pocahontasjane@reddit
We got hungarian goose duvets from Scooms and their customer service is amazing. We had an issue with the connectors over winter and the owner looked into alternatives to switch to and sent us them to trial for feedback. I've never known a company to be so thorough. The duvets are also incredibly soft and hold heat/breathe so well.
galacticturd@reddit
Wool is the way to go. Devon Duvets are great. I think John Lewis stocks them too.
Appropriate_Tax2602@reddit
I got the pure wool duvet from wollroom, the all season one that you can click together for winter and then a light one dor summer.
Honestly it's was best investment for me as I would end up hot and sweaty from other divers.i feel like wool regulates the temperature better im never too cold not too hot unless im being silyl and using the winter duvet in summer.
Also I love how the wool duvet filling sits flat and doesn't move so no more lumpy duvet like my previous ones woukd get when the filling moved.
FelisCantabrigiensis@reddit
We have one duvet each. Two doubles on a king size bed. It's the way to be happy.
Anon_on_internet@reddit
I use down, an all-seasons duvet. King size on a king size bed suits us but neither of us is a restless sleeper.
My present duvet is from Diamond Bedding and I'm very happy with it.
throwaway4477229@reddit
Pure silk - pricey but worth it imho. If get the real silk ones, they're made of stack of sheets of moth cocoon, where each one is pulled out into one very fine layer. Is then in a protective cotton cover. Great if you have any allergies too.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
Where did you buy yours from?
throwaway4477229@reddit
Original one straight from the factory in China where I watched them make them.
Amazon for the replacement (had the first for about 20 years). Possibly from Jasmine Silk
QueenieQueeferson@reddit
I love the luxury down duvets from M&S (I think they're Hungarian goose). They regularly have sales with good reductions.
We have a 15 tog for the colder months and a 7.5 tog for when it's warmer.
Total_Rules@reddit
We have all three types and my order of preference is: silk, wool, down.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
Where did you get your silk one from?
Total_Rules@reddit
John Lewis.
It needed replacing after 5-6 years as the filling started to clump together but we liked it so much we bought another identical one.
dinkidoo7693@reddit
I have a down duvet, it’s so cozy in winter.
Have to get it dry cleaned though which is an issue since its so big and i don’t have a car and the nearest dry cleaners is on the other side of town.
unprofessional_widow@reddit
You can wash them, you just need to tumble with balls after and dry very well.
dinkidoo7693@reddit
Its a super king sized duvet, it definitely won’t fit in my machines
unprofessional_widow@reddit
I've got the same size, I took it to the launderette
dinkidoo7693@reddit
Yeah, i would if it wasn’t the same place as the dry cleaners.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
Which one do you have
dinkidoo7693@reddit
It was from a department store about 15 years ago. Cost about £130 i think. I lived in a very cold flat at the time so it was like an investment.
I replace my summer duvets every other year. They are about a tenner each from a supermarket.
flohara@reddit
Down.
Also might be a vague direction, but I grew up in east europe, and we had some really thick duvets. 30-40 cm thick? Those were really warm even in -20°C winters.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
Any recommendations?
flohara@reddit
I'll dm you
MrsMiggins2@reddit
I have a fleece blanket lurking on my side of the room, so I can cover myself with an extra layer when I'm cold. Also, if my husband steals the duvet, the fleece is enough to keep me very toasty.
NA-31@reddit (OP)
I hate to admit it but I do steal the duvet and blanket 😂 I like to cocoon myself 😂
LochNessMother@reddit
I have a wool one and I love it. Down always ends up in one end of the bag, which wool doesn’t do. Also it’s way more washable.
Various_Extreme_8773@reddit
Silk for summer.
Drwynyllo@reddit
Wool.
We've had a Woolroom "medium" duvet for a while now, after many years of either down or synthetic (of which down is definitely better).
I wouldn't go back to down from wool.
Re: separate single or king size duvets on a king size bed -‑ in either case, there'd be a lot of duvet over each side of the bed, which would just encourage the duvets to fall off, but the problem would be much worse with doubles.
All-the-musing@reddit
I’ve started layering. I have a 3 tog duvet and 3 light throws / blankets which I layer depending on the temperature. I have always had a thick down duvet but wanted a summer one hence the 3 tog. I then decided I didn’t want to change over to a thicker duvet so in winter the throws / blankets go on for decoration in the day and then I take off 1 or 2 depending on how cold it is and what kind of pj’s I choose. It sounds a bit faffy but honestly it’s been a game changer. I think it could easily adapt to opposing preferences with a partner.
SpaffMonster2021@reddit
Hemp.
Boboshady@reddit
Two duvets is the answer, but don't get singles - you want something you can each spread out in.
tomelwoody@reddit
Denim is the only answer
NewSpell9343@reddit
My favourite is wool.
JoeDaStudd@reddit
We went down the cover less duvet route and got a size up from the bed size (king size for a double, super king for a king).
I think it's a 4.5 tog which we have been using all year around. If one of us is cold they get one of the smaller ones and puts it on top.
So much easier to deal with as you just throw the whole thing into the wash then dryer.\ Just get two so you have a spare.
Beautiful_Spread7866@reddit
Husband runs hot whereas i am cold and we got a heated blanket with independent controls for each side which works well
YorkshireMary@reddit
I just get a winter one and a summer one. The cotton ones are good.
Fandangojango@reddit
I have the woolroom all seasons. Absolutely love it. I was put off down as it can be hot apparently. I ordered a down duvet from JL and the quality was pretty poor, got the woolroom duvet instead. Great quality and is nice and comfy.

We've got the woolroom version, we're very happy with it. More importantly we've got their mattress topper, which we also recommend highly.
