I’m sorry. I have no idea how to even get into Warhammer. I don’t even know what the fuck it is. A book? A show? A game? A board game? An old tale from the seas?
Arstanishe@reddit
depends. do you like gamiya? there are a ton of gud wh40k games.
like reading? tons of books and comics
there are even a few animations out there, if you like that.
or you could go to one of thd wikis.
or just go to r/wh40kmeme to joke around the thing
geoff1036@reddit
That's exactly the problem, there's enough 40k media that you could just consume 40k media for the rest of your life and ignore all other media.
It's too overwhelming. I guess that's not really any one person's fault but it makes it hard to want to actually "get into" 40k.
PrrrromotionGiven1@reddit
I'm not into warhammer personally but that sounds like cope.
To make a parallel with something I am into, the most common post we get over on r/gundam is "this franchise is so complicated, where am I meant to start". At the beginning bro. It's really not that difficult. Just go watch the original anime.
ElectricTeddyBear@reddit
The warhammer wiki has filled the spot wookiepedia did for me pre canon shift

I think the first step is to become a millionaire.
MrGulo-gulo@reddit
It's a media franchise. It's all of those things you said except a show currently.
Warmitchine@reddit
Unless you include Space King among 40K media.
I_cut_my_own_jib@reddit
I've never seen my thoughts on warhammer summarized so concisely and accurately. It seems cool as shit but what the fuck is the entry point?
internetlad@reddit
It's actually famously all those things. Those there the "pillars" of Warhammer. Book, game(digital) game(physical), lore and there's one other I don't remember or give a shit about
Source: I work with nerds.
Kamikaze_koshka@reddit
Its shit.
baz4k6z@reddit
Basically it's a fictional world sci-fi fantasy franchise about a galaxy stuck in a perpetual war between races each more awful then the last. The end goal of the franchise is to determine which faction among them will finally end the misery that is their universe.
Tijolo_Malvado@reddit
Man, there is even MORE than one Warhammer. It's a "multi-setting setting". You've got the main-line dead, but still producing media: Warhammer Fantasy, the OG and low-fantasy one, with exceptional worldbuilding. Then there's Warhammer 40.000, the famous one, which started as sci-fi WH Fantasy (which gives it a lot of charm) but evolved into its own massively huge thing. Then there's the youngest one, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, which happens after Games Workshop wrote WH Fantasy into an apocalypse... it's actually quite good, it's a little smaller as of yet in the content side of things, but it's a high-fantasy Warhammer with VERY different worldbuilding style.
Blightzkrieg@reddit
In 2150 Warhammer 40k will be remembered as a sort of online collective storytelling experiment.
seberick@reddit
It’s a tabletop game. Little army men with a textbook of rules and dice. Everything else has evolved to sell the army men

Yeah because I have no plan to play it.
Greatgg@reddit
I'm too old and have too little time to actually get into Warhammer 40k, like painting miniatures and play, but the story seems good. I wanted to read some books of the franchise but I also wanted to get a quick Idea of what we were talking about before. And here we are, your honor.

Mmaximuskeksimus@reddit
To be fair the best of the lore is hidden behind insane skill checks, and if you only complete the easiest ending, and don't talk to every npc you aren't much wiser so you'd still likely eventually "spoil" it for yourself the exact same way
Mattutero@reddit
Me with Fear and Hunger, i don't have the courage to play it
Quitthesht@reddit
Same here.
On the one hand I find the setting and background fascinating, like the Old Gods whose domains mostly cover aspects of reality (Gro-Goroth being destruction for example) while the New Gods (ascended humans) covering concepts (like Francóis being the God of Domination) and how this distinction also explains how/why the New Gods don't hold a candle to the strength and power of the Old Gods.
On the other hand I don't like that the game is essentially trial and error until you lose enough to maybe win next time. That or the fact that a literal coin toss can be the difference between losing an entire run (no joke, there's beds you sleep in to save but after the first time you must flip a coin to see if you save or get ambushed. Beds in one area of the dungeon have a torturer skulking about who captures and tortures you to death if you fail the coin toss)
XanXic@reddit
Well if it's interesting I might check it out for real and play the game! (..is a lie I tell myself)
Vodka_Flask_Genie@reddit
40k in a nutshell.
I read the books, watch videos/animations and play 40k video games. However, I was called a tourist because I can't afford to spend that much money on expensive plastic.
airfryerfuntime@reddit
Tell them you'll just 3D print the miniatures. That really gets them furious. It'll also start a heated argument between the GW glazers and the DIYers.
tristan1616@reddit
Me with Mortal Konbat lol. Love the characters and lore, never touched any of the games in my life
Latter_Advice3714@reddit

I like learning about how stupid the Warhammer universe is from the guy who altered his brain so he can be angry a the time, the giant war mommies, and how if the orcs simply paint something and believe it'll be faster it'll be faster
