the only problem with the batarians is that the reapers killed more of them than humanity did, we should have killed them all
Sensitive-Let-5744@reddit
Wasn't the population of the planet in question like 70% slaves or am I misremembering the codex?
-Neeckin-@reddit
It's really funny how the writers didn't even bother trying to add any moral grey to Batarians and just left their entire race as evil
__ICoraxI__@reddit
Fuckers got spider eyes man that shit is evil by default
stapy123@reddit
There are nice batarians, it just so happens that 99% of the ones you meet are Mercs trying to kill you
BobertRosserton@reddit
Idk I think it’s nice to have clear cut bad guys sometimes. It’s kind of silly how some media seems to be forced into giving you the sympathetic story for why some alien race or culture is murdering the universe, like sometimes there is a bad guy in a conflict and it isn’t some morally grey war.
JumpySimple7793@reddit
There's some notes and descriptions that imply theyre under a military dictatorship, and it goes so far as to say theres a chance if the Batarians survive the war they'll be able to rebuild properly thanks to the Reapers annihilating Batarian leadership
Happy_Ocelot_4945@reddit
Tbf you have to be super evil if the Vorcha are considered better neighbors
FloopyBeluga@reddit
People give the other species shit for some of the stuff they get up to but it doesn't even come close to the pure lunacy of the Batarians killing and enslaving everyone they come across and then desperately wondering why nobody in the galaxy likes them or is inclined to help when they get steamrollled by the reaper invasion.

Yeah aren't batarians basically a terrorist culture, the galaxies' thug species.
Mtnbkr92@reddit
Doesn’t help their cause that they’re fucking ugly either

This is the thing, the turians did some fucked up shit as well, but people give them a pass because you want to fuck one so badly
carsausage@reddit
Why the fuck is it that the so-called "saviors of the master race" are consistently the ugliest sons of bitches known to man?
Number6isNo1@reddit
When it's an attractive Asari that will literally fuck you to death the galaxy bros collectively say, "Hmmmm, maybe it's different with me."

Female Shepard was to busy boning Garrus to give a fuck.

According to my research that is wrong.

thr33beggars@reddit
Understandable.
I had a miniature of Garrus that was pretty small, small enough to fit in a mason jar. The reason I know that it was small enough to fit in a mason jar is, well, I think you know the reason.
Anyways, that little trinket of mine is the first thing I save in the event of a house fire.
ladditude@reddit
Please don’t insert mason jars

Pony cum jar project. Not 1 man 1 jar.
darichtt@reddit
But Shepard absolutely bats an eye over it? 3 also starts with Shepard grounded with possibility of court martial in the air, lmao
I_Dont_2@reddit
I thought that was because of their affiliation with Cerberus, hence the court martial as they were terrorists or rather a paramilitary group.
MthrfcknNanuq@reddit
I think it is depends on your save file, if you don't have arrival dlc it is because of cerberus.
EU-National@reddit
Which is fucking bullshit, because my Spectre Shepard doesn't fuck around with the human bullshit while the Reapers are literally at the doorstep.
ME3 opening and ending were retzrded.
DRazzyo@reddit
It was optics at that point.
Everyone in Alliance and some among the aliens expressed that Shepard did the right thing, or at the very least, the least horrible choice.

So Dr. Fink was doing horrible experiments on Ralph. Homer finds out and is repulsed but can choose to save him or let Dr. Fink continue for protecting Springfield.
But later, Homer can choose to destroy Shelbyville to save the nuclear power plant that can destroy the state. Or spare them
Silver-Dream99@reddit
In mass effect you can choose bad(ass) or good dialog options the more you lean on one side the more harder options you unlock.
In one part of the game the guy in the picture is an autist but his scientist brother thinks he has an ability to communicate with an AI that threatens the whole galaxy. In both good or bad options your character is disgusted by the torture he's going through
In another part of the game (dlc) you destroy a space door which blows up like a star and obliterates every thing in the system including Batarian species' home world because a bigger threat could use that door to enter the universe and kill everything in it.
After killing 300.000 Batarians by destroying the space door in their system your character goes "well it had to be done"
Batarians aren't liked by other species, they are pirates, they kill, torture and kidnap civilians but they were forced to this position by constantly getting their borders attacked by other species in the galactic union
Pristine_Ad_1133@reddit
Just a small correction. It was a slaver colony, not their home world.

Destroying the Mass Relay was the literally the only option there was that didn't lead to the entire galaxy immediately getting wiped out by the Reapers. There were literally two hours left before the Reapers arrived.
You can choose not to destroy the relay. It's a game over screen, but it also plays out the vision from the start of the first game I think. Without those few months, everybody would be dead.
Also, Shep gets is stripped of their authority and taken to court.
Also, fuck Batarians.
YorkPorkWasTaken@reddit
Both excellent reasons not to bother with the DLC's
mccmi614@reddit
Anderson - 'well Shepard, you blew up a Mass Relay and Killed hundreds of thousands of Batarians, but it was necessary to slow down the Reapers...'
Shepard - 'Reapers?'
fischarcher@reddit
Shepard: "I have dismissed that claim"
Sidrelly@reddit
Just like the jeets, but apparently im a bad person for that
Rejaque2@reddit
Love me an ontologically evil race to blow to smithereens
throwtheclownaway20@reddit
Shepard agonizes over that decision in the moment and well into the 3rd game, though. Especially because the entire fucking galaxy won't let them forget about it. I really wish people could demonstrate basic media literacy before they are allowed to discuss any of it.
BlueDragon101@reddit
“Shepard, I know you had no choice but to blow up that relay to stop the reapers.”
“What reapers?”
Autumn_Fire@reddit
"Shepherd, I have an idea... if we blow up the mass relay connecting to the Batarian home world-"
"I'll do it."
"What? But you didn't let me finish, this will kill millions of Batarians!"
"I said i'll do it."
JamesRWC@reddit
They tried it first
LaughR01331@reddit
In my defense, I thought I could get out a warning to the batarians once I got to the ship in time.
Jay_T_Demi@reddit
Anon doesn't understand that renegade actions are not inherently evil actions and a renegade Shepaaaard would obviously still see this shit and say, "what the fuck".
WoolooOfWallStreet@reddit
“That guy was a ‘child’ much more than those Batarians were people” - Shepard probably
DioTheAztec@reddit
Sorry, batarians are too ugly to fuck, so they had to go. Tragic.
Wiinterfang@reddit
Shepard is basically in prison at the beginning of 3.
6pussydestroyer9mlg@reddit
Considering that in the eyes of the Alliance he:
Joined a known terrorist group
As a civilian/terrorist murdered an entire system full of Batterians
It would just be bad publicity at that point to not act like he was imprisoned (more like house arrest really).
T-Toyn@reddit
It's the same as the Trolley-problem. Pull a lever to kill one person instead of six? Completely fine. However push a person onto the tracks to save six? Debatable. People mostly make their ethical decisions based on vibes.
genericmediocrename@reddit
K, but the Reapers would have invaded and murdered those Batarians PLUS everyone else anyway, so in either situation those 300,000 Batarians were just kinda fucked no matter what. Honestly it was a mercy not making them experience Mass Effect 3. I sure wish I hadn't.
Consistent_Ant_8903@reddit
The ultimate catharsis of playing colonist survivor Shep is blowing up the Batarian home world and essentially just getting away with it
Succubus_Catcher@reddit (OP)
It was just a Colony
Consistent_Ant_8903@reddit
oh damn you’re right, it’s been so long I misremembered. Still, pretty good
Silver-Dream99@reddit
It tells you that you're not the hero you think you are. Also if you check some lore batarians were constantly getting their borders pushed back by the rest of the galaxy. When they asked them to not do that they didn't listen so they resorted to kidnapping colonial settlements.
Succubus_Catcher@reddit (OP)
Also, at the end of the third Game, Batarians Lost their homeworld to the Reapers, they are fucked.
Silver-Dream99@reddit
Yea they were pretty much cut off from rest of the species and villainezed so nobody came for them

I wish the Indoctrination Theory had been canon.
