Anybody have experience with Rabin Cone Color Test?

Failed Waggoner test and will soon be taking the RCCT. Has anyone had any experience with it? Was it easier than the first one?

I failed the Waggoner with the 1st AME I went to.
I had a suspicion that his laptop brightness needed to be higher, since I easily passed the online versions I tried independently. When I asked hiim about it, he stated that he couldn't control the brightness of the computer and that they were all standard.
I then read online that the Rabin test could be easier to pass, so I scheduled one with another AME. When I got there, he suggested I try the Waggoner first just in case I passed it. He had a modern ipad mounted on a table, and it was visibly brighter than the decrepit laptop of the 1st AME, and I passed the test on the first try. No need to even try the Rabin.
My point: equipment and environment made a difference on the Waggoner test for me.

Well I figure I wouldn’t leave you guys hanging, I failed the RCCT too. Green and Blue were practically 100% both eyes, but red was completely 0. I was advised to even skip the last option and just try to appeal for a practical.

How was the real RCCT compared to all the weird variations and quality/clarity online?

it honestly didn’t compare real well to the practice tests, well at least in the red category. The format was one letter would pop up and there’d be a keypad with choices. For reference, I selected the pass option for the first 5 in each eye. :(
Timely-Weather-1947@reddit
Does that mean you have zero color with “reds”? Or you can’t make anything out?

Well as far as flying goes, I’m able to see red fine with no issues with lights. But on the test whenever they would show a red letter I just couldn’t see them.

Ah I see what you mean. Yeah I took the wagonner on an iPad, I know for sure brightness wasn’t an issue. Hopefully the RCCT goes well, taking it today.

Friend of a friend did not bother with Waggoner because he failed Ishihara. Although he practiced a lot with Ishihara plates since he decided to take the RCCT.
He passed and as far as I know got his 1st class.

I'm sorry to hear. Practice hard for the practical test, you can ask the tower to give you the light gun signals as practice on your own if you know anybody in the tower (or are willing to call their landline).

Yeah I’ll definitely practice for it. The downside to this is that it’s all on government time, which we all know takes forever.

Ok thanks for the insight. I take the RCCT later today so hopefully it goes well.

I think there are practice tests.
If you're borderline you can reattempt the test.

Yeah I tried looking for practice tests but most of them said that the actual intensity wasn’t real similar to the actual test. I’m going to a separate OD for this so hopefully I can take it a few times worst case scenario.

2 of my pilots passed the Rabin after failing the Waggoner multiple times. Good luck

That’s encouraging, thanks for the insight. I know I have one other alternate after this RCCT and then I’d have to start the appeal process. It’s not worth it for me to retake Waggoner because I truly have red green colorblindness.
