So I'm looking to start a project, but I need help choosing a base car to work off of? So I'm looking for something around the 90's to early 2000's, and preferably something that is either JDM, or JDM inspired? Like I love the boxy designs and stuff, even if it's just stock and i only do internal mods, it would be a cool thing to try imo.

Hard body nissans could be a good choice. Great platform, easy to work on, affordable, and useful with the truck bed.
You can do drift, low rider, chopped, offroad, or track. and then throw all your tools in the bed and get home. If you don't have a truck already, it will be super useful for day to day stuff too. Trucks make a great first project.
If you're looking for more sports car stuff. Can't go wrong with a miata (parts availability and lots of learning resources already out there)
wild card. Fox body mustang- fun to drive, boxy shape, can look mean as hell with the right kit out.
