Remember Sheena Easton?

She used to be heavy in the rotation back in the day, and then just kind of fell off never to be heard from again.
Sheila E just put a bunch of stuff up for sale on Reverb and I recalled how some simpletons would confuse them despite sounding and looking nothing alike. And then thought about how nasty her song Sugar Walls really was and how I didn’t know what it meant as a kid.
Ok_Significance_5653@reddit
Loves her
Prestigious_Grape288@reddit
MY SUGAR WALLLLLLS
ohnodamo@reddit
Wasn't that her Prince 'slut phase'?
gdubh@reddit
Prince wrote Sugar Walls specifically for her after seeing her perform on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

Sheena has also had a solid career doing musicals on London’s West End. Back in the 90’s she was cast as Dulcinea in the Broadway revival of Don Quixote starring the late Raul Julia in the lead. However, he was quite ill and during rehearsals tragically died. The show never opened. She returned to London.
LXS-DC@reddit
I love her in Miami Vice. my favorite song is Almost Over You and U Got the Look. love her voice and accent. I’ve always wanted to see her live but no dice
SMBamberger@reddit
I saw her in concert last year. She still sounds great!
LXS-DC@reddit
Wow lucky you! she’s beautiful.
FloppyFerrett1@reddit
Oh wow, that's really cool😄
Sinja_Minx@reddit
Morning Train, baby! 😍
DueConversation5269@reddit
this song flashed back into my head a few weeks back, haven't even thought about it in decades, now this post~
joeythemouse@reddit
I've been singing it for weeks for some reason.
Jgibbjr@reddit
She had a story arc on Miami Vice back in the day, the late '80s, as Sonny's big love interest for a number of episodes. Killed by the psycho killer that was stalking Sonny.
phillymjs@reddit
She was also on an episode of Showtime's 90s revival of The Outer Limits.
LincolnTigers@reddit
And her character called Sonny’s car a Testosteroni 😎
FloppyFerrett1@reddit
That beautiful Ferrari was & still is one of my great loves. Manual transmission FTW ☺️💖so fun!
Carlos-Dangerweiner@reddit
That was a Corvette based kit car, not a real Ferrari.
marie-90210@reddit
I never watched Miami Vice except when Sheena Easton guest starred.
Prestigious_Grape288@reddit
Ok thank you my brain immediately jumped to “what iconic tv show did she have an arc on??” Miami Vice was soooo good
wellintentioned2025@reddit
I remember seeing her on Solid Gold? when I was little and thinking she must be the prettiest person alive. Still have "Strut" on one of my playlists.
tunaman808@reddit
Easton steered into the "Linda Ronstadt" skid with some jazz & Spanish language records. She hasn't released a new album since 2000 (Fabulous). Her two albums before that (Freedom and Home) were only released in Japan.
She's had one of the longest-running residencies in Vegas, going on 21 years now.
dixiech1ck@reddit
Linda Rondstadt didn't steer into any skid. She created Spanish speaking albums as a nod to her father who was a singing cowboy. Watch her documentary, it's quite good.
fackinmeatbiscuit@reddit
Her range on those Spanish songs is incredible! Flawless voice.
dixiech1ck@reddit
I have one of them and agree. Her voice and Karen Carpenter's were smooth as silk. It breaks my heart that Parkinsons took Linda's voice and an ED took Karen's life. She had so much still to give the world.
FloppyFerrett1@reddit
Oh wow, very sad to hear that about Ms. Ronstadt😕
CanMoo@reddit
First album I ever bought! (For some reason I rarely admit that.)
Flat-History-3849@reddit
There’s a song on it I believe called “ Hard to say it’s over” one of her best ballads, this is first time in 40 years that the song is in my head.
FeelGoodNotBad@reddit
Don’t hate me but I could never stand her. Gorgeous but music-wise, no thanks.
Ok-Name1312@reddit
Her Prince and Babyface era was my favorite and is better with nostalgia.
Sheena Easton - The Lover In Me
FloppyFerrett1@reddit
Forgot about that one - thx for the reminder! I’d forgotten how pretty she was/is!
FeelGoodNotBad@reddit
Not for me.
I was a ‘progressive’ music kid, so The Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order, The Smiths were my jam.
BarticusRu@reddit
She was a guest star on an episode of Highlander the series in the 90’s too.
Giant_Devil@reddit
A lot of musicians were guests on that show.
cugamer@reddit
That show had an impressive roster of guest and recurring actors.
DragonflyMomma6671@reddit
I like her version of "Wind beneath my wings" better than the popular one. Absolutely beautiful voice.
marie-90210@reddit
I agree. I love Sheena Easton version the next.
edgarecayce@reddit
For the millennium I was in Vegas and ended up at Sheena Easton for the NYE show. I thought it was going to be Sheila E. It was pretty tepid she sang that for your eyes only song like three times.
Automatic-Unit-8307@reddit
I have always confused the 2…I always thought , why does the girl from For Your eyes only look different from those Prince videos, must be some dark makeup
umeboshiplumpaste@reddit
Still playing the Strut dance remix here on the regular.
Also, as a kid, I thought she played Gozer the Gozerian.
bigdrummy47@reddit
Also known as Gozer the Destructor or Gozer the Traveler.
Gozer's singing voice was...not like Sheena's.
IDunnoReallyIDont@reddit
Huge similarities!
ScreenTricky4257@reddit
If I remember right she did one of my favorite Christmas Songs, "Christmas All Over the World."
macrossmaster@reddit
From Santa Claus the Movie! Awesome Christmas song. Listen to it every year.
TXtogo@reddit
A good friend of mine was both of their sound engineer, and for prince..
haller47@reddit
Was his name Eddie? Cause I worked with Eddie once. I forget for what, but it wasn’t Prince.
PatNebetar@reddit
She had great hair
MediumAd3331@reddit
Favorite Bond Song when I was like 6 years old.
GoingBananassss@reddit
I remember singing “ come spend the night inside my sugar waaaaaaallls” when I was like 6. Haha
reachers_toothbrush@reddit
Understandable. Sugar walls? Must be part of a gingerbread house!
Apprehensive-Stay196@reddit
My sugar walllllllls
nickfree@reddit
That song embarrassed me every fucking time it came on the car radio driving with my parents. I don’t know if they paid attention to the lyrics, but I did.
“Blood races / To your private spot / Let’s me know that there’s a fire…”
Holy shit. I wanted to crawl into the backseat cushions and die. “Strut” was saucy as well but maybe just a touch more subtle?
My dad was a big fan because of “For Your Eyes Only” and my mom loved “Morning Train” but those Prince era tunes were nasty.
robsker@reddit
Morning Train always reminds me of a scene in a Seinfeld episode when Kramer goes to work (unofficially lol), carrying a briefcase that’s filled with crackers lol. Had a little montage scene with Kramer and coworkers, with Morning Train in the background.
StandardAny8353@reddit
Prince wrote that song!
Fried_griblet@reddit
No, he wrote “Manic Monday” for the Bangles.
Designer_End5408@reddit
See I refer back to Eurotrip when they’re in the pub.
chefybpoodling@reddit
I have a song about my dog to this tune.
VegasRock72@reddit
There’s another episode where it plays while George is at work at Play It Now.
Rough-Mango8233@reddit
Love Shiela E, but these prices don’t seem very realistic. A Prince auction sold his items at a fraction of the price.

LOL. No fucking way. You'd have to be some rich, Shiela E stalker....then after all these years, this is your moment.

JEZUS! There’s no way.
pbredd22@reddit
I remember she had a concert film on HBO. One song was a cover of "Raised on Robbery" by Joni Mitchell.
Lightningstruckagain@reddit
She got all freaky with Prince, kinda shed that good girl image
dixiech1ck@reddit
You sure you don't mean Sheila E? I know Easton collaborated with him professionally but never saw she was intimate with him.
thisgirlnamedbree@reddit
She sang with him on U Got the Look and he wrote Sugar Walls for her. They weren't intimate, but she was a fan of his.
dixiech1ck@reddit
Oh who wasnt a fan!!! He was amazing, gone far too soon.
NoSummer1345@reddit
Prince was prolific— he wrote a lot of songs for female singers in the 80s. He wrote Manic Monday for the Bangles.
PeachOnAWarmBeach@reddit
And I feel for you, famous by Chaka Khan, Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead RIP
cb3@reddit
Chaka killed it on I feel for you. And remember Stevie wonder played harmonica on that track just like he did for Elton John on I guess that’s why they call it the blues. Gosh there were some cool ppl in music in those days.
dixiech1ck@reddit
I met Chaka Khan before, same day as I met Maya Angelou. She was quite... interesting.
Lightningstruckagain@reddit
Freaky doesn’t have to mean have sex. I don’t know if they were or not, but the video for U Got The Look sure implies the Morning Train had left the station for good.
dixiech1ck@reddit
I remember a conversation I had with a rep DJ and him telling us stories about people he had met back in the day, Prince being one of them. I used to shoot photography for the station events and concerts. I made a comment about a different singer and was told he mainly was with Sheila that's why I was asking. You've got the look was a jam back in the day.
Temporary_Client7585@reddit
They were together. Hot stuff.
EarRubs@reddit
That was Sheila E
donottouchwillie1@reddit
She sang the "For Your Eyes Only" theme, really good one.
gerwen@reddit
I listened to that recently and was absolutely blown away by her vocal performance. Seriously if you haven’t heard it lately go check it out. Whether you like the song or not, she sings the living shit out of it.
Bob_D_Vagene@reddit
Good lord. The short hair. Sublime face. Flawless voice. I was smitten.

Reverse that and it’s correct!
Bob_D_Vagene@reddit
She was plenty hot

I remember she was on some TV show and her character sang "I Will Always Love You" and liked it better than Whitney Houston's version. Just simple singing without stretching out every word.
juniper3411@reddit
Sure do! My mom loved her. On a similar note anyone remember Juice Newton?
betterducts@reddit
Angel of the Morning was a great cover!
Apprehensive-Stay196@reddit
YESSSS! Queen of hearts was my favorite song when I was like 4 years old. Still love it!
Tempest-in-a-B-Cup@reddit
I remember her from GTA San Andreas.
CanaryOk7294@reddit
We've Got Tonight cover duet with Kenny Rogers was my favorite after James Bond.
froction@reddit
Weirdly, the original is spelled "Tonite" but Kenny/Sheena changed it to "Tonight."
GenX4eva@reddit
I remember the video for Telephone had Frankenstein in it. It’s amazing what stays in your memory after 40+ years!
skos18@reddit
She was recently in a concert in some really small venues, she was quite popular when she had a duet in Spanish with Luis Miguel IYKYK.
Designer_End5408@reddit
She was at a small venue in Oakland from what I saw on the utube
Flababulous@reddit
I remember (I think) she was also hooking up with Sonny Crockett at one point?
Sintered_Monkey@reddit
I remember that episode of Miami Vice. He had the Testarossa by then instead of the Daytona, and she called it a "Testosterone."
ChristopherSunday@reddit
Yes, she was in several episodes of season four. I watched them during recent Miami Vice rewatch.
Thirty_Helens_Agree@reddit
To this day that’s what I call Testsrosas.
Poultrygeist74@reddit
I think she did a duet with Kenny Rogers which is kinda weird when you think about it

Patient-Cap-4004@reddit
She sang, Morning Train, if I'm not mistaken
Tommy_Roboto@reddit
Morning Train was going to be called 9 to 5, but got beaten to the punch.
gameraturtle@reddit
The French version is awesome, and different: Love is like a Cigarette
campy86@reddit
Was that Juice Newton?
FCSVoter@reddit
Juice sang Angel of the Morning.
Similar time frame.
campy86@reddit
Oof, I've got my morning songs and breakfast drinks all screwed up. Now im remembering there was someone called Orange Juice Jones.
Jefrex@reddit
And Break It to Me Gently!
moonchilddakota@reddit
And Queen of Hearts!
NoSummer1345@reddit
No, pretty sure Sheena sang it.
Jefrex@reddit
And the James Bond theme For Your Eyes Only.
CharleyLH@reddit
She’s had a massive rerelease of all of her 80’s albums, singles collections, remixes, all with rare songs and a full unreleased album made before she moved record companies.
ZedArkadia@reddit
Sheena Easton performing "For Your Eyes Only" was a transformative experience for me as a kid. I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world and I've loved that song ever since. I still love that short hair look.
Bob_D_Vagene@reddit
Just wrote similar above. You have excellent taste.
soifua@reddit
100% agree with this. One of the best Bond songs ever too.
cb3@reddit
Sheena! “Almost Over You” oohhh how I loved that song. She’s Scottish! I live in the US but have a child who attends school in Scotland. Whenever I fly into Edinburgh and get my rental car I have a special Sheena mix that I put on.
Sufficient-Lab-5769@reddit
When you come back around, after painting the town… you see I’m almost over you…
Thank you for reminding me of this song! I really liked it but I haven’t heard it in so long.
CrusherWillis@reddit
She was always lovely, but those late 80s Bally Fitness commercials and the Lover in Me video turned it up a notch or two. She was even referenced on Animaniacs, of all shows, in the early 90s.
Harlowe_Thrombey@reddit
I booked her for a concert earlier this year (I work at a venue). She was nice in the brief time that I talked to her, and funny on stage, cracking jokes about not being around for so long.
IDunnoReallyIDont@reddit
Sugar walls has me dying. I remember singing it in the car with my parents 🤣 Did they know???
My teen daughter was listening to New Perspective by Panic and I’m like… yo that dude is legit talking about oral sex 100% without remote doubt. She was like huh? How? 😳😂

Significant_Mess_79@reddit
Great song that sugar walls, I still have the 45🤩
PeachOnAWarmBeach@reddit
Prince wrote songs for both, I think?
ZedArkadia@reddit
Prince wrote "Sugar Walls" for sure. Considering the lyrics, I guess it makes sense.
twiggyrox@reddit
He also wrote The Glamorous Life for Sheila E. and almost certainly more
DaniCapsFan@reddit
I liked "Modern Girl" more than "Morning Train" and "Strut" more than "Sugar Walls."
Wiserputa52@reddit
My sister and I absolutely love “Modern Girl “!
AstronomerBrave4909@reddit
I know her from the "Strut" intro sample used in Scissor Sisters' Someone you touch (How many times)

She had a recurring role on Miami Vice in season 4 as his wife.

Shelia E is a brilliant Latina percussionist.
Sheena Easton is a brilliant Scottish singer.
They are two different people. I believe OP is referring to the latter, although they said the former, but who knows.

Strut was the first music video I ever saw.
It made me feel new feelings.

One of the very first reality TV stars. It took a lot of convincing that it was the same Sheena Easton that went on to work with Prince. I associate her far more with Esther Rantzen than I do Prince.
CAguy350@reddit
She just released a cd box set of her singles from the 80’s. Fans should check it out on Cherry Red records in the UK
You_Must_Chill@reddit
Don't forget "U Got the Look" with Prince. She was pretty hot to 15-year-old me and the accent...
DiscardStu@reddit
The first time I went to Vegas in 2001, I stayed at the Las Vegas Hilton. Sheena Easton was performing there and the hotel stay included free tickets to her show. I remember thinking how lame is this show that they have to give tickets away for free? Fast forward to 2026 and I'd probably be all over free tickets to a show...
soundslikefun74@reddit
I stayed there too when she was performing there. I went to the show and it was terrific! She is a great performer!
DiscardStu@reddit
I'm sure it was a great show! I was 24 at the time and I'm guessing I had other, more pressing things to do during my first trip to Vegas...
hyst0rica1_29@reddit
I think about Easton every do often, particularly how she used to be a radio mainstay in the mid-80s. Younger me liked her tunes then. Older me can’t stand em, lol.
Between women like her, Taylor Dayne, & Paula Abdul, women who used to be AOR mainstays back in the 80’s but don’t really register a blip on post-80s radio, it makes it all the more a wonder that Madonna had the career she had, staying relevant up until the 2010s.
jitterbugperfume99@reddit
I’m not a huge Madonna fan but she was/is definitely in a different league than the others you mention.
NoSummer1345@reddit

My wife and I just saw her at the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun in CT. She put on a decent show. You can tell she is sick of The Train song, as she puts it, but she still nailed it.
