How successful do you feel ‘modern parenting’ has been?

The term ‘modern parenting’ can be a bit vague but I think most would agree that it’s supposed to be a more gentle and patient method compared to pre-2010’s. It encourages more communication between parent and child and to allow the child to feel and express their feelings rather than repressing them.
To be clear, I don’t disagree with this idea. It sounds a lot better than what some of us had as kids.
YET, I just don’t see the younger generations being more emotionally intelligent, more resilient, less mental health issues.
I’m not trying to bait anything, I don’t think the kids now are much much worse than we were.
But isn’t the point that they should be better?
Why is such a good idea not showing positive results? What’s going on?
Have we, as parents, failed the method?
Or does the method have inherent problems?
