Is this normal for this area???? We just signed a lease next door... yikes! Link to article in comments.
MikeyThaKid@reddit
It’s dfw. It’s normal everywhere. Along with car burgles. Heck, last year someone beheaded another person here. But that’s Dallas 🥰🥰

BREAKING: high concentrations of humans and poverty generate crime.
GreenHorror4252@reddit
Plenty of countries have higher population density but less crime.
soonerfreak@reddit
Are you talking about the tiny rich counties that don't have poverty?
GreenHorror4252@reddit
No, I'm literally talking about the majority of the world. For example, India has lower crime rates than the US across all major categories, and they are definitely not a tiny rich country that doesn't have poverty.
soonerfreak@reddit
Is rape a major category? You think they count all the honor killings correctly?
Unlucky-Watercress30@reddit
India was a bad example by them, but their point is correct. A better example would be that the US has a higher murder rate than every country in Europe other than Latvia. That includes major developed countries like Germany, the UK, France, and Italy. And its not a small difference, the US murder rate was roughly 4x each of those mentioned countries in 2024.
This is an often repeated statement that I used to believe myself, then I actually did the research instead of parroting it. In terms of per capita murder, Mississippi and Louisianna make the worst neighborhood of Chicago look amazing. A rate of 25/100k for an entire state is insane considering that the worst country in Europe (Latvia) is at 4, and all but 3 countries in Europe are below 1.5/100k. South side Chicago is the only real place where this applies, but for most other cities like LA and Houston the crime is much more spread out. The safest places in the US (by far) is the northeast, which actually has a similar crime rate to Western Europe. The rest of the country... not so much.
GreenHorror4252@reddit
Yeah, you're just repeating conservative talking points that have been disproven already. Bye.

Downvoted for the heavy truth. Only delusional dallasites think it’s a safe city. I can give you 3 locations right now where DPD knows and is allowing fentanyl deals in the open. We closer to Philadelphia than y’all think.

Bro said “I can give you 3 locations right now” like he’s holding side quests.
Drop the coordinates, Detective Gotham. I’m tryna see if these are actual “open air deals” or just a dude selling loose cigarettes and DVDs behind a gas station.
txpcdCW@reddit
Don’t call me bro, guy.
And if you’re not a chicken shit, go chat up some of the guys on Dawson, Hickory or Santa Fe Ave. counting on fingers yep that’s 3, and all within 100 yards of each other. You want 10 more spots? Clown.
Obviously comparing south Dallas to Philly is dramatic, isn’t this Reddit?
Antonetoni@reddit
Are you really willing to go and look or will you just puss out?
For the record I just think it’s a ridiculous thing to bitch about, but he’s not entirely wrong.
If you’re nearby go to the forest lane station. Go underneath the bridge. Try not to look like a cop. They’re definitely gonna look at you though and they may check you just hold your ground if you’re brave enough.
There are other areas that are just as bad if not worse if you want me to go ahead and describe them to you what are you near?
MikeyThaKid@reddit
🤫. They not ready for the truth just yet.
Antonetoni@reddit
Comparing it to Philadelphia is ridiculous. This is any major city in the US.
Antonetoni@reddit
LMAO I can give you any city that has that problem. I can tell you that many low income rural areas are taken over by that.
If I told you, I could find dope in any neighborhood in the city, would you believe me?
llbeanjamin@reddit (OP)
Well yeah. It's a city so we expect crime but like inside the elevator is wild to me idk. I'm from NYC so I get it
art-of-war@reddit
Why is the elevator the shocking part for you? Crime can happen anywhere?
BreakfastMedical5164@reddit
as if people in the country never do crime lol
NotClever@reddit
From the article there's next to no info on this at the moment. Could very well have been a targeted attack by someone that knew the victim -- statistically speaking I believe that is the most likely thing -- which is basically independent of how "bad" an area is.
GreenHorror4252@reddit
No such thing as "normal for this area". Random shootings are normal everywhere in America.
Sturdily5092@reddit
That is a bad area to live at, so not surprising
Opus_777@reddit
Shit happens unfortunately
mnich3@reddit
It’s West Mockingbird at Harry Hines. Not the best area, not the worst. That side of town has changed a lot recently for the better, lots of new development etc. but it’s got a ways to go before I’d move over there personally. Lots of unhoused folks over there, but mostly just petty theft/non-violent crime.
yolatrendoid@reddit
Yup. I'm currently living a half-mile from there, on Maple, and the shooting was a definite "WTF?" for me. I admittedly remember the real shitshow days in the '90s, but the area's definitely improving – and, unfortunately, still has a long way to go. (It's not as bad as areas like the Cedars, and unfortunately Texas still does precisely jack shit to help unhoused folks in any way.)
Weary-Idea1677@reddit
If this were Lofts of Mockingbird Lane then yes that would be surprising
Antonetoni@reddit
Remarkably enough like a few months ago, I was coming back and there was a robbery there. when I checked the police radar. It was like a whole entire parking lot that was full with police cars. I don’t know exactly what went on. I think it was a breaking and entering from the description.
arlenroy@reddit
Right? I was surprised initially, because I immediately thought of that shopping center by the Dart Stop, its a little bougie, or was. Then I saw where the building actually was, then it wasn't that surprising.
SoBearHigh@reddit
We should ban elevators
hananobira@reddit
We should arm elevators, for consistency with our brand.
Illustrious_Swing645@reddit
On the flip side - lower rent at renewal time? lol
llbeanjamin@reddit (OP)
Lmao!
Principle_Dramatic@reddit
Other upside is that you’re close to Parkland
Saamari@reddit
I’ve been to this place delivering uber it’s disgusting
globalreset@reddit
“What the fuck you gonna do … shoot me in an elevator?”
Unhappy_Baby7203@reddit
No it's not funny, I call him , he was coming downstairs to meet me , so no it's not funny
Unhappy_Baby7203@reddit
He never takes the elevator so what made him take it for the first time I don't know , 😭😭😭
ItsMinnieYall@reddit
He’s got the juice.
Marcush214@reddit
This is not supposed to be funny 😂😂😂
Boisenberry@reddit
That building is not nice, but other stuff around there is mostly fine
poop_pebbles@reddit
Damn. I work as a building maintenance guy there almost 20 years ago
