Squirrel snack tables, sloped to give them more of a challenge and enrichment.

Seat that doesn't pool water.
Dimac99@reddit
It looks like they're for sitting or leaning on, like those terrible lean benches in some bus stops. But in the Great Outdoors it might be so people don't have to remove backpacks?
mcmanus2099@reddit
I think it's more that some elderly struggle to get back up once they have sunk all the way down onto a bench. These are better that the bus ones, wider and gentler sloped so you can take the weight off but crucially they keep your knees bent at an obtuse angle so it's less effort to get going again.
Dimac99@reddit
That's a very excellent point.

This. They are a perching stool.

Piercing stool
Legomatica69@reddit
'Wow, what a PIERCING STOOL you have sir'
mynameisollie@reddit
My local park had these plus regular benches. It had bridle paths, so I assumed it was for helping you get on/off a horse.
Legomatica69@reddit
Possible.
DefinitelyNotEmu@reddit
If they are benches why are they ATTACHED TO BENCHES in image 2?
LichenTheMood@reddit
Some folks if they sit down on the bench can't get back up again. Its for them
Sage_Council@reddit
Yes, a design of bench to give those less able a place to rest. Often found next to easy access trails
zoppaTheDim@reddit
Exactly, on a long hike their knees will lock up.
Squeepynips@reddit
Christ yes, once had a very scary experience on a long coastline walk. I was absolutely knackered and sat on the grass for a while despite my joints feeling stiff, then realised I had no ability to get back up. Rolled around for a while before resorting to crawling several metres to the nearest tree to hoist myself. Always listen to your bodies, folks!
MobiusNaked@reddit
Because if you sit for a while your hamstrings will shrink and lock up your legs. Also don’t sit cross legged. Sitting on the lean bench keeps your legs straighter.
Any_Crazy_500@reddit
You seem to be at an age where your back and knees still work as they should, otherwise you would have known.
ozyri@reddit
It's easier for some people to lean than sit/stand.
purplepoaceae@reddit
Particularly for if you're wearing a big backpack that's hard to get on and off, much easier to lean for a rest for a little while rather than commit to taking it off and having to hurl it back on again
mattzaliar@reddit
It's where they put the sign-in book for Race Across the UK.

Either a lean for the less mobile or a map reading spot ?

Could be for boot thing but a tad high
Particular-Bid-1640@reddit
Yeah hard to sit and get back up with a big backpack, leaning for a bit is still nice

Lower-Obligation4462@reddit
Photo 1 is to help you get on and off your horse.
Photo 2 and 3 are benches to sit on, they can also be found in parks, beer gardens and city centres.
neilm1000@reddit
I've never seen a bench like that in a park, beer garden or city centre. I've only ever seen that kind of design in woodland.
Lower-Obligation4462@reddit
I ment benches in general not that exact design. The ones where people live are deliberately designed to be shit so people can’t sleep on them.
Oghamstoner@reddit
I would guess a flat surface for marking a map.
Waffle0calypse@reddit
To help with getting a rucksack on or off? Wild guess
Radiant_Office6445@reddit
Aye it would def help if there's not a tree stump about and yer pack is hefty. Cool idea
Slyspy006@reddit
You sit on them, or rather lean on them.
Aldoggy25@reddit
I place them in the forests for fun.
dewittless@reddit
