Dudes (and less specifically ladies too) - when you started attending weddings in your 20s, did you really *not* know you were supposed to give a gift?

I keep hearing how people just “didn’t know” because of course the invitation didn’t have a registry and if gifts are mailed to the home or if cards are given they might think it’s \*just\* a card….
How did you learn these things? Anyone guilty of this faux pas?
