Accelerator lights on cars, like brake lights, that light up when someone is pressing the accelerator

I think the top brake light should be a bar that lights up progressively depending on how hard someone is braking. Light tap? Just a bit of light. Full stomp? Full light. It would reduce the amount of people that see someone braking and do panic stops
screwy-52@reddit
Because they were following too close! Why would anyone who knows how to drive tap their brakes lightly, just ease off on the gas?
Breznknedl@reddit
it would also benefit safety for normal drivers, as you would instantly know when the person infront is actually braking hard and you don't need to watch your approach speed to gauge his braking. I just think it would be usefull information to know regardless of distance kept to the other car
Happily-Incorrect@reddit
Tbh if we could just stop making cars needlessly tall we could go back to judging the road based on what's happening a couple of cars abead.
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
That's been thought of and is a thing on some high end luxury cars e.g. BMW 7 series used to have that, not sure if it still does
Blocked-Author@reddit
I don’t hate this idea. Can let me know if it is safe to cross the street if I'm walking. I would be okay with small brake lights in front as well.
screwy-52@reddit
What would it tell you? That you couldn't tell already? Would they even be visible at a few hundred feet? Stupid idea.
Blocked-Author@reddit
Alright.
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
Front brake lights is actually genius for the sake of pedestrians ngl
PilotBurner44@reddit
There is a very good reason red brake lights are only allowed to exist on the rear of a vehicle.
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
Which is...?
Blocked-Author@reddit
If you patent it, just give me a kickback.
CommandoLamb@reddit
Getting a patent is a great way to make sure no car company adopts it.
SovietPatrickStar@reddit
Make it an open patent. Everyone can use it for a small fee of 1ct per car. Then lobby hard for the local road authority to make it a requirement in new cars.
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
Perfect
shaggs31@reddit
I support this. Also we could have automatic turn signals that activate when the steering wheel is turned. Get rid of manual turn signals.
rcr_raymond@reddit
No, because you should be signaling before you're turning your wheel. There's no point in a signal if you're already turning
shaggs31@reddit
This would solve all the times when drivers have their signal on without any intent to turn of merge. Those drives make me distrust turn signals entirely.
screwy-52@reddit
The point of indicators is to forewarn other drivers of your intentions, not show what you are doing we could see that!
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
I posted that a while ago and got downvoted to hell lol
Throwawayffxg1972@reddit
I could have sworn that their was an old concept car from the 1990s that had this exact idea. It had green for accelerating, amber/yellow for coasting, and the standard red brake lights.
I couldn’t find it on Google because all of the results were talking about the “new” Mercedes concept car with the same idea.
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
Lmao the green/yellow/red system is actually genius! That makes so much sense
hamburgernet@reddit
You don’t need to see how fast a car is accelerating, but you definitely need to see how fast they’re slowing down
meisangry2@reddit
This exists on some cars, the more the car is slowing the brighter the lights get.
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
Mate what sub do you think you're in?
Tashus@reddit
Crazy ideas, not pointless ideas.
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
It just has to be crazy, no one said it has to have a point
Throwawayffxg1972@reddit
Look up the Mazda RX500. It was a concept car from the 1970s that had this feature. It had a bunch of other prototype features, so the lights on it were always mentioned as a side note in the articles, which is why it was hard to find on Google.
174wrestler@reddit
They should be on the front of the car so drivers with poor stereo vision can avoid cutting people off.
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
What the heck is stereo vision?
SovietPatrickStar@reddit
Stereo means bidirectional basically
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
That's scary yo
174wrestler@reddit
Using the fact that you have two eyes in order to judge how far things are.
teejwi@reddit
Know what the difference is between a brown noser and a shithead?
Depth perception.
screwy-52@reddit
People with poor vision shouldnt be driving!
John_Tacos@reddit
Would probably reduce the number of people speeding up to cut people off.
screwy-52@reddit
They're shit drivers anyway!
DrachenDad@reddit
Green side indicators to say the car is turning away from you.
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
Now that's crazy (and I like it)
thegreatpotatogod@reddit
What color would you make them?
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
I was thinking grey
PokerFriend247@reddit
In 2026. Just have a digital speedometer displayed on outside of car. Makes life of law enforcement easier too.
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
That's a cool idea too
Blu_yello_husky@reddit
What purpose would that serve?

Well, here's the thing
OrganizationPutrid68@reddit
I was behind an Audi with bad rings yesterday. I could tell exactly what his right foot was doing.
JegErJakobSkomager@reddit
Uhh?
Oh! You are talking about piston rings!
I was thinking “How do the rings in an Audi logo go bad?”
OrganizationPutrid68@reddit
Now I have coffee in my sinuses. Thank you kind stranger.
Icy_Huckleberry_8049@reddit
it would just confuse people more than what they are now
eyegazer444@reddit (OP)
