This is gross.
If your flatmate cannot use the toilet without getting piss on the seat, they need to sit down to piss.
zagblorg@reddit
At least lift the damn seat! If you're not sitting to piss, always lift the seat.
pgnlzbth@reddit
And remember to put it back down when you’re done.
zagblorg@reddit
Not just the seat, shut the bloody lid! Nobody needs plumes of toilet water vapour going everywhere when they flush.
DoKtor2quid@reddit
In fact, this is much better for your health if you're male. You can completely empty your bladder and are far less likely to develop prostate cancer. All parents should be teaching their sons to wee sitting down; everyone wins.
medievalskye@reddit
Leave some period blood on the seat for him to find
the_uk_hotman@reddit
So next time you find the toilet dirty go tell him to clean up his mess as you are not his mother. Keep doing it until he gets the message. Its not acceptable to pee and make a mess. What ever you do he needs to clean up after his mess. If youve got a UV light pee glows under it. You'll be amazed at where that pee has gone.
thefogdog@reddit
I think them not flushing for a wee is fair enough, flushing a chain during the night could wake others up.
However not cleaning up if he missed the target is rank.
Loud-Welder1947@reddit
Absolutely rank walking into stale piss smell on the morning tho
thefogdog@reddit
True. Depends how loud the flush is I guess then, pros and cons.
QuantitySharp2662@reddit
Flush regardless lol I have anxiety and would just flush even if it was loud because not flushing is just odd. It's part of the shitter transaction.
photism78@reddit
If it's yellow, let it mellow.
If it's brown, flush it down.
Loud-Welder1947@reddit
If it’s yellow then it smellows
photism78@reddit
It rhymes, so I guess it passes ...
CedrikNobs@reddit
Unless it's a bowel movement in which case you should flush and then clearly announce: "It was a poo. It was a poo"
EUskeptik@reddit
It’s not rare at all, especially among men who were over-indulged by their mothers.

Prudent-Pressure2146@reddit
Yeah I stayed in a flat where the specific rule was no flushing through the night cos it woke other people up.
AdventurousTeach994@reddit
It's gross but I think I might understand why they don't flush during the night- they might not want to wake you up!
I had a similar situation with a flatmate- I was always up first in the morning and was met by a toilet filled with his pee and quite frankly- IT STANK THE PLACE OUT.
I mentioned it to him and he explained he didn't want to wake anyone else in the flat by flushing. my response was don't worry I'd rather you flushed- he obliged and harmony was restored!
DeadBallDescendant@reddit
I'm not allowed to flush after a wee since we got a water meter.
doegrey@reddit
A modern toilet should only use a couple of litres on a half flush.
photism78@reddit
Every couple of litres counts.
Untrustworthy__@reddit
Why tell lies on reddit? No one has a normal conversation where a conflict is resolved amiccably and with an understanding from both parties.
Remote-Pool7787@reddit
Just take a deep breath and say I think you might have left a mess in the bathroom again, do you mind cleaning it up because I feel a bit grossed out by other peoples bodily fluids. They won’t do it again.
However, if it’s only happening during the night, it might be the result of good intentions ie not flushing and not putting the light on so as not to disturb you
TipsyPhippsy@reddit
That's wrong, normal guys don't piss with the seat down. Also I couldn't imagine not flushing the toilet.
smellyfeet25@reddit
YOU ARE RIGHT. It is disgusting. i would clean up after ,myself in my own home
FoxesFan91@reddit
everyone in this thread saying "not flushing is fair enough" you're all manky
doegrey@reddit
He needs to grow up and learn how to take care of/ clean up after himself. You aren’t his mum and you aren’t sleeping with him either.
(Although I’d not be sleeping with someone who acted like a child).
EugeneHartke@reddit
Not cool. Tell him to stop.
But, be realistic about what results you expect depending on his personality.
I had a house mate with what I can only assume was a penis shaped like a shower head. He never cleaned up after himself.
daisyliight@reddit
I have yet to live with a clean flat mate and they always claim to be clean…..
British native
People don’t like being brought up on it either and would rather label me mentally unwell than accept that they are dirty…. I honestly feel like people assume I’ll take over their parents cleaning for them at home. Naturally, it wouldn’t go down well when I inform them of our equal roles.
mufid99@reddit
This is absolutely not normal or acceptable – pee on the toilet seat is just gross. I'd tell him directly that it's unsanitary and you expect him to clean up after himself. If he's dismissive, ask him if he'd be okay with leaving period blood on the seat for you to find.
Jimbobthon@reddit
It's gross, tell them directly that they need to clean up after themselves.
Lessarocks@reddit
My best friend does this because she doesn’t want to wake up the rest of the household in the night. But for those of us that go after her it’s not exactly a nice sight. I always flush when I use their loo in the night because I don’t w t anyone else waking up to mine either.
So it may not be due to anything else but simply not wanting to wake you.
Loud-Welder1947@reddit
Weird not to just sit down for a piss in your own home. Especially in the middle of the night, then you don’t gave to turn the light on
blurredlynes@reddit
My mum has a weird thing about not letting anyone flush the toilet overnight because it will supposedly wake her up. It stems from at our old house her bed was against the same wall as the toilet, so fair enough, but at her new house her bedroom is nowhere near the bathroom.
Maybe he thinks he's not waking anyone up by not flushing the toilet. Is he also going in the dark so can't see hes dribbled everywhere? I'd just speak to him and say he needs to flush and wipe the seat.
ProfessorYaffle1@reddit
It does depend on how sensitive you are to the noise, and what the plumbing is like, too.
ProfessorYaffle1@reddit
It's reasonable to speak to him about it. Leaving drips is gross and he should definitely be checking and wiping up any mess as standard. (also - why is he not liftingthe seat if he is peeing? There should not be drops on the seat b in any casebut if he is standing up to pee then he shoul be lifting the seat, and if he sits, he should not be leaving drips!
It's possible that he is in the habit of not flushing at night - that can be seen as considerate as (particualrly if you have older plumbing!) a flush in the middle of the night can be noisy and disturb others, so it may be that with family / former housemates they didn't flush in the night (where it was just pee) for that reason.
But it's 100% fine to ask that he starts doing so if that's not the case in your house or if you would rather risk being woken up by the plumbing, than seeing pee in the loo when you first get up.
Dry_Reflection_7452@reddit
nop thats definately not normal, ask your flatmate to clean it up and if he doesnt listen theno if possible change flatmates
Dr-Moth@reddit
Someone I share a house with does this and it's really annoying. However, he is age 4.
blanketred4@reddit
The pee on the seat is disgusting, wipe that shit up.
Avoiding flushing at night can be normal as it can be loud and wake people up - but if you've told him you're ok with it and there's no other flatmates (or all others are ok with night flushing) then it's fair to ask.
Fanjo_mcclanjo@reddit
Some people are just filthy.
KnockOneOut178@reddit
*A lot of people are filthy
YragNitram1956@reddit
As your son begins to toilet train, teach him how to retract his foreskin, this will get him used to this necessary step during urination. Eventually, the foreskin should be retracted far enough during urination to see the meatus (the hole where the urine comes from). This prevents urine from building up beneath the foreskin and possibly causing an infection. It also allows for greater control and aim of the urine flow
EUskeptik@reddit
It’s perfectly reasonable of you but it’s likely you are dealing with a thoroughly spoiled man-child whose mother used to dutifully clean up after him. He may expect any woman in his life to continue doing that, so be warned.
I had a very different experience when I owned a retail business. We had separate male and female toilets and the staff generally kept them very clean. However, I employed a young woman who bizarrely used to empty her bladder on the floor instead of in the WC pan. One of her female colleagues mentioned it to her so she started doing it in the male toilet instead.
Her probationary period was coming to an end. So I informed her she hadn’t passed her probation and paid her salary in lieu of notice. Bizarre.

That’s super gross, my older brother would do this when we were teenagers because my room was next to the bathroom - and he didn’t wanna wake me up when he went for a post-gaming shit at 3am. It’s laziness disguised as consideration
Common_Albatross6255@reddit
maybe he’s reassuring you that he’s not pissing in the sink.
dunkybhoy@reddit
The flushing could be a not wanting to wake anyone up but no cleaning up push from the seat is a bogging bastard.
Theory_Cond11@reddit
I mean, sounds as though hes perhaps waking during the night needing to piss. But in an effort to keep a sufficient level of tiredness in order to go back to sleep easily. Hes leaving the light off to prevent that wakening shock of lights being turned on. But yes harder to aim in the dark. Also the dropping of the seat. Not sure because that also would shock someone awake.
Id suggest that he just sit down during the nighttime piss.
PetersMapProject@reddit
That's not normal and it is disgusting.
DrahcirLled@reddit
Need to get one of those signs and passive-aggressively display it:
"If you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie; wipe the seatie..."
SpectreSingh89@reddit
It is gross in any country. Flatmate needs to grow up.
InvestigatorSoft3606@reddit
Thats foul.
You need to tell him, and I would imagine he will be mortified - he may not realise he is doing it (this doesn't excuse it).
If he doesn't accept what you are telling him, take photos - show him how disgusting it is.
ChallengingKumquat@reddit
A flush in the night can wake others up, and your flatmate may be being courteous like that. The pee on the seat is a bit gross hough, but again maybe he's not turning on the lights so as not to wake you?
Have a chat with him and discuss whether you're likely to be woken by lights or flushing, and you can tell him if you'd rather he flushed.
Purp1eMagpie@reddit
Yeah, that's grim. Leaving it in the bowl is one thing, but not cleaning up after himself is grim. Tell him to start acting like an adult.
pip_goes_pop@reddit
I just find it incredible that blokes manage this.
Unless you're a little boy, who the fuck is not lifting the seat to piss? And if you're sitting, then how on earth do you manage to get it on the seat?!
Responsible-Link5739@reddit
If he's so confident his bodily waste products aren't problematic, tell him you don't mind clearing the mess up, but you'll be using his toothbrush to do so.
Better still, wait until he's brushing his teeth and tell him you've been using his toothbrush for a week already....
Pedantichrist@reddit
Per on the seat? Not okay.
Not flushed? That is a discussion to have. I flush, but I know a lot of people who do not flush at night in order to not wake folk up.
Former_Elk_7690@reddit
Why not ask him first then run to reddit after.

Tell them very loudly and publicly if you have other room mates too.
fernofry@reddit
I'd call the local zoo. Clearly, they are missing one of their exhibits.
Proud_Ad_8915@reddit

OwnRhubarb3075@reddit
Not flushing is fair enough. It's just pee and the noise would wake others up. But leaving drops on the seat is disgusting. Like personal opinion - sit down if you can't make it go into the bowl, and if that's too much, clean up after yourself.
Lou-de-Lou-de-Lou@reddit
Ask him to pee sitting down in the night. We don’t flush wees in the night in our house, it’s noisy.
PigHillJimster@reddit
If it's yellow, let it mellow; if it's brown, flush it down.
It's a reasonable, if used sensibly, water saving behaviour.
You'd probably want to flush the last one though before retiring for the night.
Ruadhan2300@reddit
I assume the reasoning is that he's getting up in the night for a pee, and doesn't want to disturb anyone by flushing.
It's not uncommon to let pee sit, but he needs to be lifting the seat to pee, and he needs to be aware of his dripping (Another common problem for guys) and cleaning that up.
Tissues are right there, there's absolutely no excuse for leaving a mess.
Give him hell for it until he shapes up.
Opposite_Funny9958@reddit
That’s a man being at the rubbish end of ‘being a man’ - dirty sod needs to clean up after himself.

No that’s gross - tell him to act like an adult and clean up after himself
