Had to show gf and kid that this isn't a drug jingle

They were both singing 'mybo' instead of the lyrics. They liked the video though.

Everything Yello did up to this album is better than this song.

Thank you!!!! I kept thinking I knew the song from somewhere but couldn’t remember where…
moopet@reddit
I can hear that thumbnail.

I've been familiar with this song since the 1980s, but never saw the video or the artist. For whatever reason, I thought Yello was a rapper.
When I finally saw it on MTV Classic a few years back, I was shocked because Dieter is a dead ringer for one of my uncles. It's like they're dopplegangers.
HousesRoadsAvenues@reddit
My favorite song by Yello was "Lost Again".

not a jingle per se, but drugs are definitely involved
this is the face of a middle-manager offering you cocaine
One-Earth9294@reddit
This song has always just been a Twix commercial to me.
Lopsided_Panic_1148@reddit
Is your girlfriend significantly younger than you?
tequilasundae@reddit (OP)
9 years
Lopsided_Panic_1148@reddit
That'll do it.

Not as on the nose as Laid Back's White Horse but still Euro-wierd.

During the opening of Eurovision they always highlight one of the most famous pop songs from that year's host country (Example, when it was held in the Netherlands in 2021 they focused on "Venus"). Last year when it was held in Switzerland Oh Yeah was the highlighted song. At first I thought that was funny, but in actuality this is probably the most recognizable Swiss pop songs of all time.
Sufficient_Ad_9117@reddit
You lost that conversation, didn't you...
C-romero80@reddit
I remember this as a twix commercial as well (like I didn't know this specifically was who did the song but I knew it wasn't made just for that commercial).

Ohhh yeah! 😃

This video does not support your position.
Vylnce@reddit
It may not be a drug jingle, but I am 100% sure there were drugs involved.

This was Howard Stern bumper music for a while

The Secret of My Success?
Smallmyfunger@reddit
Yep! Pretty sure this is the song playing while they all sneak around to each others bedrooms. Going by memory here so could be off...

Ferris Bueller's Day Off?
delldarlin@reddit
The Secret of My Success (1987), d. Herbert Ross, starring Michael J. Fox and a radiant Helen Slater. Not a classic, but there's some fun physical comedy and Fox is eminently likeable.

Had an epic makeout session during The Secret of my Success in the movie theater back in the day
adashiel@reddit
It’s the eightiest song that ever eightied, so of course there’s cocaine involved.
JeffEpp@reddit
Possibly the cheapest music video made. "What do we have lying around the set? That's all? Well, it has to be finished in an hour, so..."

Falco has entered the chat
JeffEpp@reddit
Yeah, that was pretty cheap.
"We need a US video for the non-English version."
"Why would we... nevermind. Let's do it quick, And since no one will ever see it, have him be a real A-hole."

A Flock of Seagulls: Let's roll out this aluminum foil, put up some mirrors, and spend the rest of the budget on beer.
marugirl@reddit
I first heard it in Secret of my Success and thought it was a sex song lol. how the hell did they get to drugs?
FeliusSeptimus@reddit
Hadn't thought about that song in a bit.
I had the single on vinyl. 'Bout wore it out.

I think it was in The Secret of My Success also.

Yello is amazing when turned up on a good stereo system.

Ah, the it's when songs were made just to play with our new toys. And they were released to pay for our new toys.....
RoyalPuzzleheaded259@reddit
To be fair saying it’s not a drug jingle then showing them this video would be very confusing. It looks a lot like a drug jingle.
tequilasundae@reddit (OP)
Sounds like something made while on drugs
delldarlin@reddit
For those who may be curious, youtuber Todd in the Shadows did an episode of One Hit Wonderland about those guys. Yello was a deeply fascinating couple of weirdos:

Was? They still are! Their latest album slaps!
delldarlin@reddit
Begging your pardon, I misspoke. Point kicks ass, it's just that the last 6 years have felt more like 15.
FREDICVSMAXIMVS@reddit
Oh lordy, if that ain't the truth! Good thing we have some good music to help us cope!
ohnodamo@reddit
Them and Sparks should do a tour I think. I remember Sparks being called the European band from L.A and Yell were the American band from Europe.
Ok_Entrepreneur_8509@reddit
To be fair, it is drug adjacent. I think I am rolling a little just from listening to it.
HalfaEnchilada@reddit
I caught a body high from the flashbacks.
le4t@reddit
I'd never seen this video; thanks for sharing. And educating the youth.

This song and half of the songs from New Order Substance 87 we're played at nearly every assembly, talent show, pep rally etc in high school.
