Agreed. I find it luxurious when a car manufacturer does not just lazily add a screen, but thoughtfully area ges buttons and knobs in a sensical, ergonomic manner, and the mechanical feel of said buttons and knobs feels solid like it wouldn't break for decades, if ever. Fortunately the used market still exists.
I'm going to be completely honest most modern cadillac interiors especially their EVs, Escalade and the CT5 are really good, seem to be solid quality, have good screen integration and screen button hybrid. Even in the Escalade IQ which is full screen its good clean integration. the CT5 feels like understated luxury interior inside. I would rather be in a Modern cadillac interior than whatever the fuck germany is up to
Totally agree for the most part, though looks like Cadillac is hopping on the "all screen" bandwagon. What makes it obvious is that these GM brands aren't doing anything particularly special, just keeping the analog and digital thoughtfully separated where it makes sense... It could easily be an inspiration to something mind blowing, but instead it's just tablets everywhere.
I can live with screens, it's the norm today, and there is no point in pissing against the wind. Some more buttons would be nice, but it's not the hill I'm going to die on.
BUT I can't live with how bad these crooked screens look in these neue klasse BMW, it's hideous.
Honestly, for rear/passenger screens, it makes sense. I feel like a lot of people don't understand how many of us are regularly travelling hundreds of miles to visit family or making other such trips multiple times per year.
idk about American brands, but European premium don't like how much market share they're losing in China to domestic newbies who understand tastes better. [This](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e9/AITO_M9_MY2025_20260118_005.jpg/1280px-AITO_M9_MY2025_20260118_005.jpg) is the interior layout of the best-selling luxury brand in China (that's the Aito M9, the M8 and M7 have similar interiors). It might look [familiar](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/2026-mercedes-benz-eqs-400-4matic-177-6952959abc79f.jpg?crop=1.00xw:0.845xh;0,0.155xh&resize=980:*). And look who Aito [overtook](https://ddjmgzqh9rr0w7.archive.is/0QMuC/26a33ab31fa4a9d4bb5186d91169719aa5a70066.webp) in second and third place.
This isn't a "China bad" post. It's just reality. If you want to sell in any market you have to make products that suit that market. Until about 5 years ago China was easy money for European auto makers. It's much harder for them now, but they still want that market. So their products have to suit tastes there. On a related note, the average new car buyer age in the US is 55 years-old. In China it's 35.
No, no, I 100% agree that Chinese love screens. But my argument is that Americans love screens just as much. I mean, look at Rivian, Lucid, Cadillac. They are primarily made for the American market, and all of them have screen-dominated interiors.
I wouldn't say as much as the Chinese, but I agree Americans do like screens too. Rivian and Lucid are in the Tesla mode, but [Cadillac](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/2025-cadillac-escalade-106-68dfce5f5266c.jpg) is a great example. And for cars that are basically only sold domestically, [F150](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/2024-ford-f-150-raptor-r-212-66feede9be2b9.jpg?crop=1.00xw:0.845xh;0,0.0599xh&resize=1200:*), [Silverado](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/2026-chevrolet-silverado-1500-lt-pr-103-6849b09736a0f.jpg), [RAM 1500](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/2026-ram-1500-hemi-127-68b70f23d9a29.jpg).
More buttons and less screen real estate than Chinese cars (apart from the Escalade), but screens are definitely prioritized.
Yes, that is true. Although I'm afraid the difference is pretty small. Chinese off-road oriented luxury cars like the Denza B8 have about as much buttons as the RAM.
Honestly it seems like a global trend at this point. Even Japanese cars are moving pretty fast in the same direction.
Touchscreen doesn’t need much cost to produce, it makes sense why automakers doing this. Even we many car buyers may not like, automakers don’t care that.
I'd have to use it before passing judgement and I'm sure it's well thought out for the most part like most BMW infotainment system since iDrive6, modern interiors, my i4 included, just don't feel very premium outside the fact that the infotainment isn't complete garbage which is a low bar.
Having physical bits that are high quality go a long way to make an interior feel premium, pressing a screen and going through fluid menus that react quickly is not. It's just what one would expect out of modern hardware and software.
My perspective as someone interested in the i7:
I'd rather keep the pre-LCI. I like the panoramic display in the new version, but that's all I prefer. I don't like the loss of the scroll wheel or the fact that the wood trim will be less visible. I don't like the large center screen vs the two in one driver + infotainment display.
But the biggest problem for me is that the 7 series interior now looks like the iX3 and i3. Until this year it was different enough that it felt like a more premium product. But now the 7 series looks derivative of a 3 series (electric CUV).
> bar is on the floor
I hate how true that is.
I'd need to see what Merc does with the next S-class interior. The hyperscreen is cohesive but overwhelming. As a silly a phrase as "digital detox" is, I want it repeated in every design meeting.
I really quite like the setup in the eqxx concept, that was somewhat adapted to the c/glc ev & gle/gls refresh
I actually quite the "new" gle as a whole, if its platform wasnt the same as it was 10yrs ago
It appears that it's basically impossible for automakers to integrate these onslaught of screens in any kind of tasteful manner. Buttons and the scroll wheel have also left the chat.
That being said, I'm sure their sales will be better than ever. As for me, looks like I'll be sticking with pre-iDrive 8 models for the foreseeable future.
Ah yes, let‘s put the iX3 steering wheel with the capacitive touch panels made out of hard plastic that people criticise for feeling too cheap into our new flagship luxury car. Brilliant idea…
