If you could only have ONE V8 CAR, what would it be?

Title. Must be a car and must have a big ol v8 under the hood (or wherever the engine might be placed).

I’d have to think but it’d be antique and Detroit. Maybe an Olds 442 would top the list. Yall saying all this foreign (to me) crap is breaking my heart.
bigChrysler@reddit
When I read "antique" I expected to see something from the 1930s... then you said Olds 442. The muscle car era is antique now???
Various_Variety419@reddit
I don’t know, I’m not the kind of person that would know the technical definition of antique anyway. But I’m past midlife and wasn’t alive for the era so it’s pretty fucking old.
bigChrysler@reddit
I wasn't thinking of the technical definition of "antique". I suppose it may be normal to refer to appliances or clothes from the 60s as antique, but I don't typically see people refer to 60s cars as antiques.
I wasn't alive in that era either, but most of my favourite cars are from the 1950s-60s and it makes me feel old to see that.

It’s almost as if there were more to a car’s subjective appeal than 0-60 time.
Slow_S60_@reddit
I’ve driven a 2018 V10+ and the V10 sound is the best part.
KiraDog0828@reddit
Me too, on a closed course. It was a very competent car. I enjoyed my few laps very much. Sadly, it ended far too soon.
Expert-Masterpiece70@reddit
Audi's Art of Engineering is best expressed in their Normally Aspirated V6 like the 3.2L and the 4.2L V8. They've also produced some disastrous botched abominations like the 2.7T Twin-Turbo V6 and the 1.8T and 2 0T 4-Cylinder Debacles. The V8 R8's are The Art of Engineering in every way, weight distribution, almost a perfect 50/50, aluminum body, which is lighter and stronger than steel and of course Quattro, full-time gear driven all-wheel-drive. Frankly, the V10 is overkill. VW owns Audi, Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Seattle and Skoda and they all share technology. I worked for Audi in Manhattan at their Forum on Park Ave at 47th St and did several launches for the A4, TT, Q7 and the R8.
stupidfock@reddit
And a lotus has the same engine as a Toyota Camry. Doesn’t make it the same car. Don’t think anyone would choose the v8 over the v10 but just speaking for v8 cars the R8 is not a bad pick. It’s 500 lbs lighter than the s/rs models, handles better, mid engine, etc.
Sketch2029@reddit
Being lighter and handling better is also why people pick the v8 over the v10.
Dr_Nefarious_@reddit
It's great fun to drive, beautifully weighted and handles like a dream, what's not to like?
Slow_S60_@reddit
A 5.2 liter V10
AnotherIronicPenguin@reddit
I mean 0-60 in 4.5 vs 5.0 seconds is kind of academic, and sharing the V8 with the S/RS models likely means lower running costs. Still looks and sounds great and is objectively quick. I sure wouldn't kick an R8 V8 outta bed for eating cracker.
Slow_S60_@reddit
It’s definitely a great car
Current_Homework_143@reddit
V10 w/gated manual FTW
jafo@reddit
Yeah, agreed, if I'm getting an R8 I'd want the V10. I drove the Audi V10 in an S6, and I loved that engine. I didn't end up getting one because it was too much like my other car (B6 S4 w/40v V8) so I ended up getting an A8 instead.
Dr_Nefarious_@reddit
Why not?
derkfisch13@reddit
the v10 is the one you want
doggos4house2020@reddit
The v8 is a much better drivers car. They’re more balanced, feel a little lighter on their feet, and that engine is an 8k rpm masterpiece.

A beautiful blend of exotic styling, a high-performance naturally aspirated V8, with Lexus reliability.
Own-Inflation8771@reddit
Yeah but performance is kinda meh compared to what you pay for.
dordonot@reddit
No one buys a V8 for performance, everyone who’s gotten behind an LC says it’s the perfect street car to wring out the whole RPM band while cruising
Own-Inflation8771@reddit
I get the second part of what you're saying, even though it's still expensive...but no one buys a V8 for performance?? What do people buy Corvettes for then?
dordonot@reddit
Corvette demographic is middle-aged to retired, median age of 60+, high disposable income. 37% of C8 owners are 65 or older and all they do is cruise with the top down
seasidestang@reddit
You're an absolute idiot. A simple mustang gt with performance pack is faster in straight line and a better handling car than the lc500 is.

Even if it's implied performance lol and a z06 of almost any era literally drives the doors off an lc500 which is a boat that rocks a shitty multilink in the rear etc etc lol Yamaha carried on the v8 (as always lol) though!

Maybe a '68 Hemi Cuda 4 speed? The thing had to have the glass windows replaced with plastic because it would wheelie so hard off the line they'd all shatter.

That would have to be a custom build since the 426 Hemi wasn't available in a 1968 Cuda. A friend of mine just did this last year. It's a very tight fit!

They definitely did make 50 or so of these for drag racing, a companion to the LO23 Super Stock Dart, they made these BO29 Super Stock Cudas. You're gonna have a fun ride learning about these monsters that dominated in their classes. Fiberglass front ends, the cars were shipped as body in white to Hurst for completion. Very rare and sought after these days.

When it comes to fast fun tons of Torque real muscle you have to leave the third world continent of Europe and get to where the real hot rods are.
Cadillac CTSV there’s no more fun luxury car made even stock.
Spend $10,000 in just a few mods and you have 800 rear wheel horsepower that will take on any full weight luxury production car in the world (like a real production line not a gutted un drive able tuner car) lots of fast mustangs and corvettes and even though the quality isn’t there you got give Dodge credit for building some really powerful heavy weight really really quick vehicles.
Hellcat and track hawks

Yeah, most of the older cars are underpowered, but that’s why turbos exist.

A "383 stroker" is a Chevy 350 with the crankshaft from a Chevy 400, resulting in 383 cubic inches. Since you're talking about a Mopar, I think you just meant 383 (not stroker).

Jesus... How much goes into that!? Surely it doesn't sit sideways like the OEM V6...
Either way, take my upvote just for the 3000GT. Worst of the 276er 90s era Japanese sports cars, but easily my favorite.
FailingComic@reddit
They made fwd ls cars. It's called the LS4. Designed for that orientation. Most notably used in the impala SS and grand prix GXP.
FreddyCupples@reddit
I don't think anyone looks at an LS swap into a 90s Japanese powerhouse, and thinks "fuck the Corvette motor, I want the smaller Pontiac one!"
FailingComic@reddit
I imagine to maintain awd youd probably have to but maybe not. You can ls swap Pontiac fieros with normal ls motors though I believe.

Well... this breaks your rule because it's not a big V8.... but I've always wanted a Ferrari 355F1. It's such an iconic car - really marked a pivot/return for Ferrari in a lot of ways. It also ushered in an era of wannabe "flappy paddle" automatics. A completely impractical choice, the car will always be cool to me.
A slightly more practical, while still heinously expensive to own option, would be the E92 BMW M3... just because I miss the 3er of that era/generation.

Ferrari 430 manual. One of the best sounding 8s IMO, gated manual is wonderful, looks good, drives as well as it looks
Jaguar f type. More fun than it has any right to be. Sounds amazing, one of the best looking modern cars, great auto box
C6 z06. Big 7L lungs, engine feels like it never runs out of breath. Incredible driving car, even if the interior is ugly and cheap. Best looking corvette to my eyes
E55 AMG. Proper AMG lunacy in a subtle exterior. Autobahn missile with a blown v8 under the hood that is perfectly happy doing the morning school run
I’ve always wanted an OG Mustang fastback with a spicy 289 in it. That engine oozes charisma and charm, and it looks wonderful
That said, I currently own two supercharged range rovers, and they are magnificent to drive. Best suv by far in my book.
Also have an Audi S8 v8TT which, while biblically powerful (runs 10.60 at 131) it’s quite a boring car to drive.

Looks good. Sounds good. Handles incredibly well. Track ready when I want to go a few times a year. Perfect amount of tech and still has analog and switches where I want it. Above all, the Coyote is reliable and damn near bullet proof if you do all the proper maintenance.

If you want a quick fun card to drive I would say a mustang you're going to have to do some upgrades but they will be reasonable and available. If you want to go fast and be able to continually upgrade for short money it would definitely be a Camaro for me.
I like all the Lexus and BMW recommendations but I'm going to need a pretty big budget to maintain those. I would rather put my money into making the car better and drive the crap out of it. Just my two cents

It would be smarter money to pick a real Shelby/GT-40/Cobra or whatever just based on value, but I built this one and it’s perfect for me, and I figure this hypothetical has more to do with what we’d actually drive, not what the smartest financial move is.
