BREAKING: Hay prices explode to $483/ton as western buyers panic buy

Figured this should be talked about over here too. If you aren’t already hoarding food, you should be.
StuartShlongbottom@reddit
FYI, this guy has vibecoded this "newsletter" website and is fearmongering to get folks to sign up. Go to actually reputable, established sources _where they show prices over time_ not just shouting claims that prices are INSANE, and you'll see this isn't what he's making it out to be. For instance: https://hayandforage.com/article-5697-USDA-Hay-Markets-ndash-May-5-2026.html I don't see inflammatory headlines here... https://www.brownfieldagnews.com/news/hay-harvested-area-likely-to-increase-in-2026/
Soft_Walrus_3605@reddit
Fair enough, I have no idea the veracity of the claims, but I don't know what they'd gain by hyping a free newsletter only for people to find out there's no truth to it.
No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
Newsletters can be monetized, and they don’t all model their business on keeping an audience long term, same as any other social media, or just media in general really.
iridescent-shimmer@reddit
Yeah you can also just sell the data too.
No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
It’s all about the data, it’s the whole point.
StuartShlongbottom@reddit
If the person listed on the website is actually who he says he is, he's a college kid. Could be doing it for a school project or something to put on LinkedIn to brag about that he built a community with viral content. If he wants a job in marketing, that could get him a social media gig. Or could just be a troll

xoexohexox@reddit
Maybe they have some financial interest in manipulating the price of hay...?
Soft_Walrus_3605@reddit
I feel like you should be talking to him in his main thread, not me. I'm just a guy who referred someone to the OP's answer to their question
StuartShlongbottom@reddit
Oh for sure - yeah, I already did on his main post. His AI bot replied with no real rebuttal. Sorry! Not tryna @ you about it, I know you're just passing along info
HawaiianPunchaNazi@reddit
It's a bot posting?
Or just using the bot for replies?
MidSinglesInYourArea@reddit
I mean, there's a huge ecosystem of grifters hyping verifiably untrue things for profit.

Can't wait for the private equity companies to swoop in and buy up all the family farms this bankrupts
TheSensiblePrepper@reddit
That is exactly what the US Vice President has been doing. He is a key investor for a company that buys farm land from farmers that have nothing left.
I find it convenient how his "Boss", the President, does something that will increase the price of diesel fuel AND lower crop production to basically force farmers to sell for pennies on the dollar.
Almost like it was planned that way.
pattydickens@reddit
They are already buying up water rights. Irrigation is ignored by mainstream commentary. So much of our agriculture now depends on Irrigation while most people still think that farmers depend on rain. Data centers can't grow food. AI can't create a solution to replace the water it needs to blow smoke up our asses.
pixie6870@reddit
I just started reading "Cadillac Desert" over the weekend, and man, the buying of water rights has been going on since Los Angeles stole the water from Owens Valley.
rush-2049@reddit
A nice reminder for me that I wanted to read that. Thank you!
pixie6870@reddit
You're welcome 😊
pixie6870@reddit
Also, there is an updated version with a postscript from the author's wife. Look for a copy with a blue cover showing irrigated fields on one side and a desolate desert on the other side.

Just look at American tech in China for this to see the future. Thiel and others have said freedom and democracy it's only for the ones they allow it to purchase from them. They are bent on global empires driven by chaos, famine and grift.
They seek to steal all the $ from any coffers they can to bring about their version of a new Reich.

EatMyShortzZzZzZ@reddit
China ain't got shit to do with good old top down American capitalism
pegothejerk@reddit
Absolutely incorrect, thiel and other billionaire techno feudalists/autocrat wannabes have explicitly said that workers today are paid too much, they're too dumb to be trusted with money, that the rich should have it all because only they are smart enough to use it right, and that all workers should be forced into basically prison district apartment buildings that the rich techno lords run, where workers live and are fed and have their work and lives and leisure entirely controlled to maximize profits. They would have a social score and would be monitored by an ai driven surveillance state that's literally being built right now (Palantir), speech will be controlled and you can't extract or live in the system with cash as they will control the digital currency. That's what china is literally doing.
iamsolate@reddit
again, what does any of these american problems have to do with china? (chinese social credit system isn’t real btw lmao)
Playful_Possible_379@reddit
It's not an attack on China but rather China is the example of this already being real.
CommiRhick@reddit
China has lifted 800 million people out of poverty in the last 4 decades. America has only added people to poverty to consolidate wealth and power into the hands of a few.
The American propaganda against China is off the charts. The US has the same "social credit score" China has. It's called your credit score...
Playful_Possible_379@reddit
It's actually not propaganda against, easy there , it's a fact. China did loft people. Off the back off American and Western technology. Handed to them and stolen by mss.
The facts are China is a bad actor and a bad partner. But that was not the point of the post. The post was to highlight American technology being used to keep dissent from happening in China invented by people looking to do that elsewhere.
CommiRhick@reddit
Should we give back guns and ammo considering we "stole" gunpowder from the Chinese?
China didn't force America to take its manufacting there. American elites prioritized profit over sustainability.
They don't do anything we aren't already doing. At least they aren't bombing half the world to maintain that "control".
pegothejerk@reddit
It is real, it's just not explicitly used to control people's lives there. Yet. It's said to be more of a "rewards or loyalty program", or more like our FICO scores to assess who is more trustworthy for approving use of corporate programs. It was literally built off the idea of western FICO scores. The government does in fact have access to those scores, kept by social score companies, five of them, and does in fact monitor them and use that to implement controls on citizens that most western nations do not.

I've always thought it was strange that the US gets most of its hay from Asia.
bahhumbud@reddit
International trade is weird.
Those multi billion dollar shipping companies need something to put on the board or their companies would go under. And Mitch McConnels family (wife is daughter of largest shipping magnate in China) would suffer.
My step mom put in Oregon used to have a neighbor harvest her hay for years and pay for it. Then by the late 2010s they’d offer to harvest it for free. Since 2020 even harvesting it for free isn’t worth their time.
FriendToPredators@reddit
So you’re saying we should all let our lawns grow out and bale that stuff for sale

Final-Attention979@reddit
Im too fucking broke for this shit
Yd1891@reddit
How much are they usually? I don’t have much experience with hay lol
Mr_Metrazol@reddit
I've been selling round bales of hay for $45-50 the last handful of years. However with drought conditions in Southwest Virginia, my hay is a bit shorter than I'd like for it to be in early May. Right now I'm looking at one cutting of hay instead of my usual two.
If, and that's questionable right now, I have any surplus hay to sell I might be asking closer to sixty dollars a bale. If fuel goes up much more, then it'll be seventy or better.
Yd1891@reddit
Oh wow, that’s not good. I wish you the best of luck

Iran War has been rough for world trade. Imagine a similar war with China if they ever decided to lock down South China Sea...
Google: "Approximately one-third (roughly 33% or over $3.36 trillion) of global maritime trade passes through the South China Sea annually."
dat_GEM_lyf@reddit
Yeah they can’t lock that down…
China isn’t Iran in terms of military capability
LysergioXandex@reddit
I doubt China would continue to trade with the US during a war, though.
Strange-Luck-5786@reddit
Ah, yea, the disasters are coming together quite nicely
Leftoverofferings@reddit
I've been saying this. We have had very little precipitation this winter and are screwed for water. That's why hay is so expensive.
standgroundalready@reddit
This administration just creates chaos.
dittybopper_05H@reddit
It "explodes" to $480?
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/WPU0181

DissedFunction@reddit
It will ultmately end one of two ways....
Americans will sit by docile and weak, happy to become virtual slaves as long as we have our sports and reality tV to watch,
or there will be an awakening and a whole lot of industry and resources will be nationalized. Americans shouldn't have to literally die from lack of timely medical care because they aren't rich. And many major oil producing countries have nationalized oil industry where citizens benefit from the resources being sold. Our water and farmland... are more valuable than oil and yet we allow private equity firms (Often owned by foreign interests) to increasing own the water and food we need to survive.
MAGA was false populism. It was a trojan horse of oligarchs posing as America first. We need an authentic populist movement which stops the oligarchs from putting the last nails in our coffins. IMHO
