What in the fk
AtomicPhantomBlack@reddit
It was designed by Jim Sullivan himself, as his finishing touches on the AR-15.
prudiisten@reddit
It slows down full auto ROF by somewhere between 100-200 rpm. It also has a modified cam path similar to the LMT EBCG and Griffin Gas Pocket BCG. Those are more beneficial for semi auto use but are about the same price or more.
Liatin11@reddit
Gotcha, surprised it costs so much. I'm used to seeing bcgs being around $100 to $200 ish. Was wondering if it's snake oil lol especially since I didn't know surefire made anything but lights
Gold_Map_236@reddit
They’re about to enter the AR market. I guess they noticed geiselle getting close to 6k for a dmr and figured they should get in on it too. They’ll be releasing a 6mm arc sometime in the future
Gold_Map_236@reddit
Just fyi I’m pretty sure this is the wrong cut for FRT.
TheStatusPoe@reddit (OP)
RIP. Already bought one. Guess that means I've gotta bust out the drill press.
Gold_Map_236@reddit
You would technically need to add material to the bolt.
Look at the side view of the bcg. See how the top part at the rear extends further forward than the same spot on the bottom?
For FA capability the bottom needs to be equal in length to the top.
The way of cutting BCGs this way was done intentionally to make it harder to convert a civilian AR to FA.
I think there may be some FRTs that work with this type of bcg, but they aren’t the common ones.
BENboBEN@reddit
Incorrect. The bottom is a normal auto cut, the top is just extended further forward. To get this to work you simply need to remove material from the spring loaded weight inside the rear of the carrier which is easy.
Source: Own one and have done it.
Gold_Map_236@reddit
I was wondering if since it’s “longer” that could possibly be the case.
muffinman1604@reddit
Anyone confirm these work with SS/ARCs?
I had one customer that broke a couple ARC levers and he was using an OBC. Curious if that could have been the problem.
LesPaul556@reddit
You have to cut some of the weight off the bottom, but once you do its fuckin awesome. My 10.5 BA smoothed wayyy out. I run an OBC in an A5 tube with a spacer to use a carbine spring and buffer length while retaining the long stroke of the OBC.
TheStatusPoe@reddit (OP)
I'm planning on using mine with an ARC trigger. I'll let you know if I experience any breaking
prudiisten@reddit
It may not work without some modification. The underside of the OBC doesn't match that of a milspec BCG, others have got theirs to work by removing material with a dremel until it functioned.
KreamDaSavage@reddit
How noticeable is using this vs a milspec bcg for gas reduction? They seem to only suggest 15% which doesnt seem like it would be noticeable
PageVanDamme@reddit
Disclaimer: I have not used Surefire OBC.
That said, LMT eBCG (or get the carrier only since that’s where the real magic happens) has been THE one that made biggest difference.
KreamDaSavage@reddit
Noted. About to frt my mk18 soon. Just got the brt tube for it. If i needs more gas reduction ill go the BCG route
skygao@reddit
This guy tested a whole bunch of variables with buffer tube length, hydraulic buffer (Kynshot), magnetic buffer (Miculek), and mil-spec vs Surefire OBC on cyclic rate with an MP5. May be of interest to you. A little old at this point but should still apply.

PageVanDamme@reddit
I recommend BCG Mk2 buffer system as well. It has reciprocating buffer weight under spring tension. (So does A5, but has thinner spring)
Count_Warheit@reddit
You use the LMT ebcg with that setup?
PageVanDamme@reddit
Yep on 11.5" carbine length gas.
KreamDaSavage@reddit
Already have that 🙂↕️
mooseishman@reddit
People say I’m making it up, but I get zero gas in the face on one of my SBRs that as an EBCG, PRI CH, and Surefire SB2. I think the extra port on the carrier, slightly larger bore on the can, and charging handle all make minor enough differences that have a big effect when combined, because it definitely is a different experience with my RC2
PageVanDamme@reddit
I recommend SNACH Gen II. Works even better than PRI.
skygao@reddit
I recommend a $7 tube of gasket maker. Works better than any gas mitigating CH and is $7. https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/25o2ds/guide_to_making_a_gasbuster_charging_handle_from/
Cold-Change460@reddit
Very. Less gas, slower cyclic rate, easy to clean. The physics of the dead blow weight in the carrier tail check out. Very good product for suppressed rapid fire SBR’s.
skygao@reddit
Not any more than tuning your gas will.
These types of enhanced carriers with longer cam travel paths (Surefire, LMT, Griffin) use that to delay the bolt unlock time. Delaying bolt unlock time allows more time for pressure in the bore to depressurize (as bore volume expands as the bullet moves forward). By unlocking the bolt when bore pressure has reduced, less gas exits the chamber side less aggressively compared to earlier bolt unlock.
Tuning your gas (e.g. an adjustable gas block or restrictive tubes like BRT or blocks like YHM) yield a similar effect. By reducing the rate gas enters the gas tube and builds pressure against the bolt, you're increasing the total time to achieve pressure levels needed to push the carrier back and unlock the bolt.
Designs like the Surefire OBC and LMT exist in part because they were trying to sell to the military. It's an easier pitch to say "We can improve your 100s of thousands of over-gassed carbine length rifles by just dropping in a new BCG, an already consumable part", than it is to say "We can improve your 100s of thousands of over-gassed rifles by swapping the gas block (remove muzzle device, handguard, existing gas block, reinstall block, tube, rail, and muzzle device)". If it's an adjustable gas block, you also have to add "Oh yeah, don't let anyone but a gun smith tinker with that setting, if they do it may make the gun not work. I'm sure those just out of high school kids will listen to you and understand and not do anything dumb that would compromise the reliability of their rifle".
In order of effect, the most significant things you can do to reduce gas to the face is:
* Use a low back pressure suppressor (allow more gas to flow out the muzzle side rather than push back out the chamber). High impact.
* Tune your gas system and/or buffer weight to increase bolt unlock time (or a BCG that does this). High impact.
* Run a longer length gas system (more time before gas even starts building pressure in the gas tube). Modest impact.
* Create a DIY gasket seat around your charging handle to receiver interface to reduce the amount of gas that can escape near your nose. Minor to modest effect depending how much gas is leaking from that interface now.
* Run BCGs with various designs to re-direct gas used to cycle the bolt e.g. KAK downvent (redirects gas down to mag), Griffin Gas Pocket (redirects gas to a "pocket" on the non-ejection port side that then flows out), Lantac (faces ejection port, but angled slightly forward to push it slightly further away from your face). Minor to modest impact pending the system and the rifle being used.
* Run an upper without a forward assist to remove the gas exit point from the FA opening. Minor impact.
TheStatusPoe@reddit (OP)
I'll try and update this once I'm able to get out to the range with it. Any reduction in gas to the face would be appreciated with some of the more gassy suppressors I've got.
deflax2809@reddit
You need brt gas tubes
DUCK_FACE_JONES@reddit
id say a big variation depends on can also
CallsignFlorida@reddit
I bought one of these and couldn’t tell a difference between my Geissele Super42/H2 with my Super Duty 14.5”
prudiisten@reddit
Its a drop in way to slow down the full auto cyclic rate. It does so by extending the distance the bolt carrier can travel. If you don't need to do that then its completely useless. They are a total waste of money for 99% of AR owners.
That said I own one because I have a unexplainable fascination with non standard BCGs. My collection is currently missing a KAC E3/Centurion E4 as I don't have a rifle to use it in.
Automatic_Hat7833@reddit
This better give me aimlock and walls.
