What an odd choice considering the 9060 non-XT exists. Seems the 9060 XT will be about 20-30% faster than this, so basically the 9060 non-XT performance but with the full die and severe power/clock limiting.
Omotai@reddit
Sounds like a way to salvage trash dies.
constantlymat@reddit
Steam Machine so late AMD now has excess cut down 9060 dies that they could have bought instead of the 7060ms.
railven@reddit
Cut down 9060s would be an instant "oh that's decent" response, but with current market - yeah good luck it being worth it.
Valve isn't going to eat a massive loss on Steam Machines as there is no promise software sales will generate passive income.
I've stopped buying directly from Steam as third parties offer far better deals/bundles nowadays.
InternetAnon94@reddit
I'm sure that will stop Steam from gaining marketshare.
Steam went up from 60%-75% of marketshare in 5 years even with EGS free games program lol
railven@reddit
What does my post have to do with marketshare? When the key is purchased outside of steam it is still used on Steam, whick still counts for Steam marketshare, the difference is the revenue stream doesn't go to Valve.
arahman81@reddit
Thank Valve not taking the 30% cut on external keys.
railven@reddit
Which is why Valve continues to dominate the platforms!
A great example of "passing the savings back to the consumers."
Wonderful-Lack3846@reddit
As long as the price is right, I am fine with weird stuff
CaptainForward836@reddit
If you care about power efficiency ( which you should) then just buy an nvidia gpu.
This thing is weird because its bad
Wonderful-Lack3846@reddit
I don't care about power efficiency. I care about an AMD alternative
OBERBOSSPLAYER@reddit
Absolutely! They teased a maxsun 9060 xt LP at CES earlier this year but it seems like that didn't make it into production.
Really, really hope gigabyte makes a LP and 170mm single fan version of the 9050, the smallest 9060 xt at the time is the 200mm power color reaper.
InflammableAccount@reddit
And there is a no reason not to make an LP version, given that the 9060 Non-XT TBP is only 132w.
GraXXoR@reddit
they will slot it in just below where the 9060 sits today and then be able to lift all the other card prices up by $100 to spread the load.
KoldPurchase@reddit
Is the Nvidia 5050 such a killer in the prebuilt market?
I suppose it's the only reason why AMD would want to release such a product with low performance.
pythonic_dude@reddit
There are 2.5 times more 5090s than 5050s in the latest steam hw survey. 5060 variants are all order of magnitude more common. However reliable you'd consider that stat.
zeronic@reddit
I mean, to be fair, the kind of PC you put a 5050 in you probably don't game with or install steam on. It's pretty much an "i need more monitors to get my business work" done card, as that part of the segment always has been.
jenny_905@reddit
Hardly. It's a card that offers similar performance to RTX 4060 and is very similar (better) to an RTX 3060 also.
It's not just a display adapter, it's a legit gaming GPU.
NeroClaudius199907@reddit
holy out of touch 5050 for display xDDDD
theholylancer@reddit
but that part of the segment has been largely handled by the iGPUs of both camps no?
like if you need additional monitors, most places would get the goold ol 1030 or really anything without a PCIE power req and lower powered (matrox is for the actual pros I think https://video.matrox.com/en/products/graphics-cards/m-series)
KoldPurchase@reddit
Given the RAMapocalypse, it was too much to hope for a 9080XT.
Will have to wait for RDNA5 and pray for normal RAM prices again. Hopefully, they still make GPUs for PC and not just for consoles...
Asgard033@reddit
The 9070XT is already a juiced (9070XT is way out of the efficiency curve's sweet spot if you look at how much power it consumes vs the 9070 non-XT) and fully enabled Navi 48.
AMD would need a higher end RDNA4 die if they wanted to put out a hypothetical 9080XT. It wasn't going to happen, regardless of the RAM situation.
MrMPFR@reddit
Worse for the 330W AIB models. AMD should've never pushed it this hard.
GenericUser1983@reddit
Well the rumors/leaks point to the next Xbox having the GPU on a seperate chiplet, that also functions as a discrete gpu chip. With the Xbox having a seperate chiplet with the CPU cores and other stuff. And two smaller GPU chiplets that can both be discrete gpus, or have cpu chiplets attached for laptops and such. (Medusa Halo, and Halo mini).
kikimaru024@reddit
Steam Hardware Survey should never be taken as gospel.
kuddlesworth9419@reddit
There is a market that just wants a desktop for as cheap as possible that gets them playing the games they want to play at playable enough frame rates and settings. It's a pretty big market if you ask me. Younger people and people who just don't have the disposable income to buy anything more expensive yet.
frivoflava29@reddit
A modern GTX 260 192-bit would nice 🤤Â
Jeep-Eep@reddit
Shit bins gotta go somewhere.
Probably will be a 16 gig SKU as well as the bubble is liable to go down within the lifespan of RDNA 4.
jigsaw1024@reddit
Doubt they would release a 16GB version.
I can see a 6GB or even 4GB version if they have more dies with bad PHYS for memory interface.
These SKUs at this end of the market are all salvage. Gotta maximize that silicon recovery to increase margins.
lukfi89@reddit
But then they would have to cut down not only memory size, but also the bus width. That would fatally cripple performance.
kingwhocares@reddit
Slower memory. Probably means they can get these for cheaper.
bunihe@reddit
My 9060xt at 188W (3250MHz in games, VRAM OC to 23Gbps, 15% memory OC) performs around 10% faster than 119W (2800MHz). RDNA4 doesn't scale well with power and frequency. If the RX9050 is efficient and priced well, I don't see that as a bad card
Warm-Cartographer@reddit
We don't know power consumption yet, what if it's low power gpu.
RedTuesdayMusic@reddit
I see an 8-pin so it's not slotpowered, thus useless at this tier of performance.
Appropriate_Name4520@reddit
If you buy an 8 GB GPU In 2026 you are just lost. quite frankly a 4-6 GB actually makes more sense, because then you are not even gonna bother with new games in the first place!
RumbleversePlayer@reddit
These xx50 class GPUs usually targeted towards competitive and casual gamers (gamers with entry level gaming PC). Even if they play newer AAA titles, it will be either low/medium settings or just play some of them, doesn't play a lot of them (not hardcore AAA enjoyer).
The more important question is how much AMD will sell this rx 9050.
imaginary_num6er@reddit
Exciting competitor to the Steam Machine
NeroClaudius199907@reddit
steam machine competitors already exists with b570, b580, 5050
imKaku@reddit
I mean, its nor a compeitor. It has better raster performance, better upscaling, better RT performance. But is a dedicated card for now.
Its more so a competitor to RTX 5050-5060.
Jeep-Eep@reddit
... you know, that might be part of the target market, for other companies making a machine like that, maybe even running SteamOS.
ProZoid_10@reddit
Intel should have low end with 570 10gb & 580 12gb right?
kingwhocares@reddit
Same cores as an RTX 9060XT. So, basically the same chip at lower clock speeds and slower memory! Guess they want to go for the cheaper memory and minimal price change. Maybe they should've just introduced the RX 9060 to consumers instead of OEM partners.
superkickstart@reddit
Does it have opposite performance compared tp 5090?
bubblesort33@reddit
That's kind of weird. The 9060 has fewer cores?
CummingDownFromSpace@reddit
Nice if we could get a low profile version. There have been a few demo'ed-at-CES low profile 9060s, but none that went into production.
theholylancer@reddit
honestly, if this thing lands at 5050, the 8GB is far less of an issue there
but if this is this gen's "core unlocking" and you can push these to 9060 XT speeds if the rumored cores are right (why... I would have think it is cut down) just with oodles of power then that 8GB is...
like the 5060/ti/9060/9060xt 8g cards are all baffling given what they do, but a 5050/9050 that hits a 250 price point today and is 1080 focused 8g works
and the 3060 deal for sub 200 dollar thing is... there...
Beautiful_Ninja@reddit
Awesome, another SKU that AMD will produce almost nothing of.
KARMAAACS@reddit (OP)
What might be funny too is that the 9060 XT 8GB might be around it's price on release considering it's discounted in some regions by a bit, dunno what AMD's thinking. Might be OEM/prebuilt only?
Sensitive-Rate-1177@reddit
Might also be that the premises you made up aren't true?
bunihe@reddit
Interesting choice if the rumors are true, a full 32CU Navi 44 die clocked lower, might not be that much slower than 9060 non-XT but geared for lower power? Doesn't seem like a bad thing if it isn't priced ridiculously.
Jeep-Eep@reddit
Could be a weird binning sit, where they have a bunch of 44s that don't clock UP well, but clock down well.
Vaxtez@reddit
I'd be curious to see the price & performance of this.
FlukyS@reddit
Honestly I can see why they would reduce the VRAM in one way given there isn't a lot of it available but at that point given you can't make it a budget card and you can't give it a load of VRAM you are probably better off not making this.
ExplodingFistz@reddit
AMD and making pointless products. It's their specialty.
Extreme-Arm4609@reddit
We don't want <10gb GPUs in 2026 I'm fully on board with the 8gb hate the mobile 5060 is wayyy too powerful especially on 1440p it runs out of vram way before it's too slow
