why is there no advancments in IPS Black panels, they make ips much better but only dell made an office monitor with it

Because I suspect they achieve the superior contrast ratio by twisting the crystals further to block more light, which also makes them take longer to switch position (i.e. worse response times). That's just my speculation though.

So basically back to VA response times, but still with half the contrast? I’d rather they just try and improve the response times from the superior visual experience rather than trying to improve the IQ of fast tech.

so basically when searching for this thread on Google this was the comment it was showing so i clicked just to find it. i resonate with this message.

The top gaming VAs have response rates of the top IPS tech... at the cost of contrast

Yep, more evidence for my theory lol. It seems that contrast ratio and pixel transition speed is a constant tug of war. However with how good the speed is on the new 1440p 360Hz panels, I feel like it should be possible to make a 144Hz panel with at least 1500:1 contrast by now... I wonder why they haven't.

OLED?… Ridiculous response times with perfect blacks…

Not sure what your point is? OLEDs operate nothing like IPS LCDs that use a layer to block the light from the backlight -- a layer that takes time to change its position. OLEDs emit light directly from each pixel so all they have to do is turn the pixel off.

My point is just that i feel like LCD will be obsolete for any screen attempting to appeal to gamers who want the instant response times and great contrast ratios. As you say, there’s a tradeoff when it comes to LCD between the two - so we’re at a point of diminishing returns. Whereas OLED is only expected to get better. Idk. Personally I just don’t understand why we don’t yet have a 1080p OLED Zowie competitor. We already have much higher PPI 1080p OLED screens in our phones - so upscaling one to 24” can’t be that hard, can it?

Yes I agree. But I feel like 144Hz IPS LCDs with better contrast ratios and a much cheaper price than OLED should be possible by now.

swear_on_me_mam@reddit

its only 2000 contrast, still worse than the most basic va.

Truly cheap no-name OLED monitors will be a revelation. I wouldn't care so much about burning in a $250 monitor after 4 years or whatever

OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy@reddit

Honestly, burn-in is much better these days anyway. Saw someone leave an OLED switch screen on a static image continuously at max brightness for 3600 hours (150 days) non-stop before it developed any burn-in.

Meanwhile the pg27aqn, a monitor revealed at CES 2022 is still not available in Europe
View on Reddit #780480

blaaarg123@reddit

It’s available for ages just insanely overpriced and the supply is scarce.

Aggrokid@reddit

The OLED PG27AQDM is so attractive but I have too much static stuff on the desktop for long periods.

blaaarg123@reddit

Imho it’s an overpriced worse version of lg’s offering. The extra brightness is just asking for burn in

i like it but I'm an ultrawide guy.

Are we talking about monitors?

Lol, yes.

I'm more than happy with the non-OLED version.

What are the current opinions on odyssey g7? He didn't mention it but maybe because he thinks it counts in the 600+ range he mentioned? Here it's 480 euro.

Kougar@reddit

Sucks, might as well buy an office monitor with wide color gamut, and then a second OLED for gaming & movies. Just isn't a single monitor that offers everything. Were some neat options like the Innocn 32M2V that looked like the ASUS PG32UQX at less than half the price, but those vanished as quickly as they appeared.
