Considering how long the RC2 was the meta it's kind of crazy how fast we moved past the RC3. Feels like it just came out.
GildSkiss@reddit
There was no RC3. That was just a bad dream.
lennyxiii@reddit
Surefire should let all rc3 owners trade it out for an rc4. We feel ripped off. Bought mine 24 hours before pew did their review lol
Complete_Term5956@reddit
At least Surefire didn't outright lie to everyone like CGS did over and over again.
FrostyBit7602@reddit
Well I have a bad dream in my safe đđđ
Automatic_Market7422@reddit
It's not that bad, just use open tine 3 prong flash hiders only. Never use closed tine or war comp.Â
NoobRaunfels@reddit
How does it sound, in your opinion? It was a real âmiddle childâ kinda thing, so I didnât hear muchÂ
FrostyBit7602@reddit
I run it on a BCM 11.5 and honestly it sounds decent â nothing mind blowing, but solid overall. Itâs definitely an overbuilt can. Gas hasnât really been an issue unless Iâm absolutely hammering it. Performance-wise, it outdoes at least half the cans I own. I got mine for about $100 less than what this RC4 is posted for, so it was an easy pickup for me.
NoobRaunfels@reddit
Makes sense. I still have my RC2 around for out of state classes when I loan my gun out, and because I have a few p/w Geissele uppers with their muzzle devices. Worth having one or two ya knowÂ
FrostyBit7602@reddit
Iâve hear the RC2 is a good overall performer. I might have to try to find one in the future to add to the collection.

There is no RC3 in Ba Sing Se đ
Just_Blackberry_8918@reddit
Genuinely asking why is this worth 1300$ vs. A lesser supressor?
GildSkiss@reddit
More like "vs greater suppressors"
Just_Blackberry_8918@reddit
Im new to supressors lol, is this just surefire tax. Is this thing built like a tank for full auto? Or just over priced legacy branding
SwedishMoose@reddit
Honestly it's competitively priced at this amount with CAT Alleycat 556 and PTR Spiritus 556k.
The only unknown is there's not yet pewscience data on it, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it's tested.
PutridDropBear@reddit
and pew data is most definitely not biased in any way
CharredScallions@reddit
I donât think that itâs biased, itâs more that it is inherently unscientific because nobody is allowed to know what the Silencer sound standard actually means.
SwedishMoose@reddit
is that just something you reiterate but don't know why? Because it's pretty well described everywhere what it means. Listen to any podcast episode and he will explain it within the first 10 minutes.
CharredScallions@reddit
Can you describe what it means?
SwedishMoose@reddit
It's a recommended dosage based on hearing loss risk. Idk if you know what he does during the daytime but he's more than qualified to be able to figure out a way to measure hearing loss risk.
CharredScallions@reddit
I donât doubt his methodology is without merit. But your answer is purely qualitative.
At least some part of his mathematical algorithm, from what I can tell, is proprietary. And thatâs fine - but thatâs business, not science.
Of course, a lot of scientific research is conducted by private profit generating institutions. But we can recognize that their IP protections are to make money - not advance scientific thought. And PewScience has sort of a âmonopolyâ on a niche market thatâs small enough to have personal internet fandoms affect the industry.
SwedishMoose@reddit
It's fine if it's proprietary. It's his model.
He publishes the raw data and it's been shown time and time again to not only align with other people's anecdotal findings, but also the wave forms match with people who try to do their own pewscience (TBAC) and the only thing that's been found is that Jays testing equipment captures a whole lot more of the picture.
And Jay isn't doing this for money. He's doing it because he's a nerd but he might as well get paid if it's something he's doing in his free time.
ObligationOk7768@reddit
Read up on the research supplements that are on the website. It goes into the math behind the data. Once you read through it all you should feel more confident in the data he presents
PutridDropBear@reddit
kool-aid is awesome sauce huh?
SwedishMoose@reddit
so is dumb fuck juice apparently
coolio5k@reddit
Source? Or are you talking out your ass cause you donât like science?
SwedishMoose@reddit
Just because you think it's biased doesn't mean it's biased.
Island08@reddit
Wait a minute is that sarcasm?
former_cool_guy@reddit
Theyâre absolute tanks. But more importantly, the cost of inconel and the tooling for it is significantly higher than whatâs needed for titanium or stainless. And yet, it has a similar MSRP to many Ti LBP cans on the market that people constantly glaze.
BlueJay--@reddit
There's also a ton of inconel Silencers that are cheaper by a lot.
Bourbon-neat-@reddit
3d printed, low backpressure, and with integrated QD? Cause otherwise it's apples to oranges.
BlueJay--@reddit
Even better. Printed, low back pressure and without an integrated mount
ZealousidealCrow811@reddit
Itâs a good can, but yeah the name adds some luxury tax, much like any HK on the market for comparison. My buddy has a surefire that is sweet but performs identical to my Lazarus 6. Both of which are rated for heavy use.
former_cool_guy@reddit
You know what? Thanks for being one of the only comments not comparing full stainless or titanium construction to a purpose-built design using inconel. That was refreshing.
Pilfercate@reddit
Don't buy the hype. The brands trying to make 'milspec cans' are going to focus on reliability(back pressure/gassy) and flash mitigation. Meaningless design concepts unless someone is paying you to carry it and use it.
There are plenty of other options and with something like a riflespeed gas block, you can tune any suppressor to any gas system.
former_cool_guy@reddit
Milspec is not high back pressure anymore. Milspec has been low back pressure for several years now. SOCOM placed a mandate for all new suppressors purchased to be low back pressure several years ago, which is why the MRGG program got the inconel Huxwrx Flow 65. The Army got the Sig SLX68-QD, another low back pressure inconel can. The Marines are likely going to follow suit in the coming years as the NT4 phases out over its contract life, which is likely why KAC started developing heavily on their LBP offerings.
spank_the_tank@reddit
âSurefire taxâ aka âMilitary contract taxâ aka âDrip đ§ taxâ
RedWhiteAndJew@reddit
I was told by my dealer that the military contract helps because it allows them to spread the R&D and tooling costs over a larger volume of units. That's why the RC2 was at the $1200 or so level and the RC3 was $1800.
spank_the_tank@reddit
Good point. The large volume led to the RC2 being one of the most iconic suppressors of all time.
Aware_Donkey_6074@reddit
Youâre paying đ° for a name and itâs not worth it. Surefire is always at best mid tier in performance for a high price tag.
GamamaruSama@reddit
It's all of those things.
GildSkiss@reddit
I'm exaggerating a little, you're paying for a trusted brand name with a lot of real-use pedigree.
RedWhiteAndJew@reddit
Surefire's warranty is pretty outstanding. They are built very tough. Their design goals are not to be the lightest and quietist and they'll tell you that. Where this excels is excellent flash reduction, low maintenance requirements, and hard use durability. It's tough to recommend this for range plinkers that aren't currently using the Surefire ecosystem. But it's a much much better can than the RC3, so this is the one to get if you already have SF muzzle devices and want a low backpressure can.
TheBlackComet@reddit
I only have 2x Surefire cans, but multiple muzzle devices. Their MDs are some of the most usable compared to others that are just there to attach a can. With SF finally making a HUB adapter, I am making some great Frankensteins. Next up will be the new AAC SDN on my Scar 17. No idea what gas setting I'll need.
BasicEnchilada@reddit
B&T Hubs work on SF muzzle devices, and their muzzle devices also work on surefire cans, SF used the B&T design to make their muzzle devices and ratchet system or rather, B&T allowed them to use it since it was their invention.
TheBlackComet@reddit
I'm aware. I have heard that their adapter has had some issues where the SF one does not. Kind of surprising since like you said B&T made the design. Something about concentricity. Either way, I'll hold off on most B&T purchases until they figure out how they will exist in the US now.
BasicEnchilada@reddit
thats weird, ive never had any issues using their hub on any of my surefire devices
TheBlackComet@reddit
I mostly saw posts on 3 and 4 prong MDs. Either way, it is sold out and a little more expensive than my LGS sells the SF one. I'm sure B&T will get back to selling again and I can pick up some of their closed tined MDs. They have one that kind of looks like the AUG tulip and I want to throw on a can on mine while still looking mostly the part.
GamamaruSama@reddit
FWIW all the other shit out there is basically the same price so you're paying a couple hundred more for a well-established name brand like surefire or knights.
A lot of these suppressor companies are little more than a guy in his garage. Some of them literally still are.
Unforch I think it's going to take more time for prices to come down. Big box stores are starting to carry cans and sometime after that market saturates it'll ease up.
MulticamTropic@reddit
The elephant in the room that nobody wants to acknowledge is that if the $0 tax stamps get raised to ~$5k, most of the small shops are going to go under and the lifetime warranties on their cans are suddenly meaningless.
I have no love lost for Surefire, but between their flashlights and mil contracts the company will survive even if 99% of civilian suppressor sales evaporate, so theyâll still be around to warranty your can.
Same reason Iâm looking at HuxWrks.
I love my OCL Polo K and DA Mask, but neither of those companies have mil or police contracts that in aware of.
Fit_Seaworthiness682@reddit
...my first was the sico Omega36M. I can put it on my ar15 and my cz Scorpion. I like the way this looks tbh. But I want to see the actual performance and ratings on this

Former_Power6209@reddit
Honestly I think the RC4skin looks pretty cool.Â
Electric_Sal@reddit
I held one in person and doesn't look that bad honestly, people just like hating on SF, lol
Aware_Donkey_6074@reddit
People that donât like Surefire (or atleast analyze the pros and cons) are data driven. People that defend Surefire are emotionally driven. Itâs a clean cut left side right side of the brain thinking. Crazy how easy it is to find information and do research these days and people still refuse to do that. Probably a mix of laziness and the fact the Fudd at the LGS told them they would be an operator if they bought one.
Gloomy-Collar-583@reddit
Every Streamlight I've owned has broken. One of them died fording a river when it got a little bit wet. I have Surefire flashlights that are old enough to drink that have been used on deployment, used on multiple continents, used as impromptu dive lights and hammers, and have been carried around almost every day. One of them needed a tail cap replaced almost 18 years ago and that's it. They're not as bright as the Streamlights, but they've paid for themselves in reliability.
Bourbon-neat-@reddit
That's a very reductive take lol
In reality, your selection and weighing of pros/cons could easily put an RC2 in consideration.
benihana@reddit
it's funny how much envy there is on reddit once you're aware of it
Aware_Donkey_6074@reddit
Expensive for a heavy, poor performing can đ¤Ą
Automatic_Market7422@reddit
How do you know how it performsÂ
BobTheGunBuilder@reddit
It was loose when he shoved it in his ass and due to the weight gravity yanked it right out. 0/10 would not buy.
robotsongs@reddit
As a dude in a "suppressors are silencers and you can't have them!" state, can anyone tell me *why in the world are these things so dang expensive?!"
I've only seen them online and not in person, but it sure seems like the engineering for these things is not extensive, even if you have dudes hand turning these things on lathes.
WowBruhReborn@reddit
1200 dollars for a suppressor đÂ
Xpmonkey@reddit
Looks at the Tisha and wait for the pew science review.
Bourbon-neat-@reddit
I mean Tishas issues had nothing to do with performance and everything to do with manufacturing, QC and institutional knowledge of additive manufacturing means and methods, none of which Surefire is short on.
Jury is of course out on how the RC4 will perform given the abysmal performance of the 3 but for it's terrible performance SF never shipped out cans with gaping cracks as "blems".

Why would one consider this can over all the others now I mean! Kinda outdated
Johnhoangfl@reddit
Just released this year.Â
Confident_Bit_7613@reddit
I kno but what dramatic changes has occur to spend your money on this when the supressor market is on fire.
Johnhoangfl@reddit
You said it was outdated, but this is SF newer flow-through design. Youâre paying for the brand with proven reliability, as opposed to something made by a couple of guys in a garage or outsourced for 3D printing.
Aware_Donkey_6074@reddit
Truth hurts the cucks that buy because it says Surefire on it. A fool is easily parted with his money đ¤ˇđźââď¸

The gentile suppressor.
Es2aryKing@reddit
The RC3 initially benefitted from how iconic the RC2 was. Even if this one is the best suppressor ever, itâs going to suffer from how mid the RC3 was.
