Some aesthetic shots of one of our favorite finished restomod projects — a J-Code Mustang.
This build turned out really special for us, so we wanted to share a few details from the suspension setup.

I love how there was so much thought and effort put into the suspension to make it more stiff, modern and handle better....then wrap the wheels in BFG Radial T/A tires.
Its like sticking a ballet dancer in 6" platforms and asking her to do the nutcracker 😂

There is something to be said for handling vs ultimate grip. A car can be set up to handle really well while not having super sticky tires means you can have fun exploring the limits of grip at lower speeds.
I’m biased here because that’s what I’ve done with my BRZ, (baby all-terrains, narrower than stock on lifted but still good geometry and quality suspension). I set it up to rip on gravel roads and it does that really, really well. I think if I were to throw some RE71RZs it would still do well against stock setup 86s on the same tires. I may prove out this theory at some point, and I picked up some RPF1s to do so, but I’m more excited to try rallycross with this car for now.

I agree. When my stock Pirellis on my Mk2 GTI wore out I replaced them with some no name but sporty tires that were harder both in traction and sidewall. The car slid predictably and it was a lot more fun.

I opened this thread specifically to comment this.
All that suspension work only touches asphalt through four contact points.
If the car’s only driven in moderate temps and never in rain, I’d run Avon CR6ZZs.

Looks like Vitor makes some chunky 15" tires with 200 UTQG so they are actually sticky unlike the BFGs.

Looks pretty sick. Can it do a burnout?!

I'm over here looking at these pics wondering what J. Cole has to do with this project.....

I don’t love the design of those control arms. It’s a neat looking peace but I don’t like the bending loads on the threads going into the machined portion. I obviously don’t know the materials or the thicknesses involved and it looks pretty beefy but if it’s going to fail it’ll do so right here:
