How many miles is too much for a used car ?

Im looking to buy a used car and I don’t really know what mileage is too much for certain brands. Im specifically looking at old Honda Crvs like the 2006 one but I don’t know where do I draw the line for the mileage of the car. Also keep in mind I live in Canada and the winter wheater might affect durability. I found a 2006 Honda Crv with 270 000 Kms for 3k CAD$ (yes im broke) and I want to know if it’s a reasonable price.
Thanks in advance

I worry more about the running and structural conditions of the vehicle. I bought a bmw with 298,000 miles on it 6 years ago and it’s still on the road. You likely can’t get to high mileage without proper maintenance so you can assume the car was taken care of if it has a lot of miles.

My wife drives an 09’ crv with 515k miles on it. I paid $1300 for it with 380k miles and every maintenance receipt since new. Zero issues beyond regular maintenance.

Dude what the hell that is so nice. Was it well maintained before you bought it ? 515k miles is insane.

Condition matters more than mileage. I trust my 440,000km truck much more than my 225,000km car. If you aren't familiar with cars, get a pre purchase inspection done by a mechanic (that you pay for). If the seller fights you on getting a PPI, walk away.
By that age rust starts to pick off cars left and right, so you have to be more diligent when picking something out. Otherwise I think it'd be a good choice if it's in good shape or doesn't need much to safety.

Okay yeah good idea Thanks for the advice

One more thing to point out, make sure your insurance will cover a car from 2006. My main insurance stops insuring cars at 20 years old

For what it’s worth age/rust if a bigger concern to me then I’m if well maintained. What province are you in? Inspections?

Im in Québec

Get a underbody and suspension inspection for sure. Those bridges and salt can tear up a car pretty good there.

Will definitely get one Thanks for the advice

chances are, nothing was done besides an oil change and brake pads at 100-150k miles.

Every car/engine is different. 175,000 is a lot for a Kia soul. I just bought an 07 Acura Tsx with the same engine as the CRV you’re talking about. It has 443,000 and I didn’t bat an eye. I even used the mileage to negotiate the price down. It’s a K24, it will last forever. It was designed to make around 300hp and detuned from factory to make 200, it’s had a very stress free life.

While it's a bit high,as long as it's not rusted out and has been maintained well that is about half of what you could expect to get from it. A good PPI is definitely in order.

270,000 km is high, but old Honda CR-Vs can still last a long time if maintained well. Check carefully for rust under the car and around the wheel areas. $3k CAD can be a good price if the engine, transmission, and AWD work properly and there are no major rust problems.
